1. Thrust depends on the weight of the boat. Are you looking to just steer with it or troll completely on just the electric trolling motor? You are going to want separate batteries for the trolling motor and the riggers because you will likely need a 24V system for the trolling motor. Have you measured for the shaft length that will decide how many lbs. thrust you can get? I was in the same boat as you (no pun intended) when it came to autopilot but my boat was much bigger and heavier (~4500lbs.) it also had a deeper V that kept me from getting the trolling motor deep enough in the water. Do a search on GLangler.com there are a few guys that use them for trolling for walleyes and salmon in erie.
2. Hydraulic was $495 and the AP was $1286. It was 1781.13 before shipping, I guess I should have just said $1800. I will be installing everything myself. I will have to get all necessary tubing and fittings before I start. I have most if it mapped out paper where everything will go but I am sure something will have to be moved one way or another. I am definitely mounting my pump in my cabin on the wall or nearby, I will fashion a bracket to hold it horizontal so all the fittings are faced up to help with bleeding the system (this is based on a install recommendation on thehulltruth.com) I am hoping to install this in march when the temps start to get above freezing. I have been looking for an autopilot for about 6 months (just after I got off the water) and these are the best prices I have seen for both. I could have got the steering off ebay but I figured if I was dropping $1300 in one place they would be a little more accepting if I ran into a problem with one of the units.
3. I have been running the same humminbird for 8 years and never any issues with tracking my balls down to 100'. When in current it makes it difficult to track them no matter what fish finder you have. I forgot to mention I run the dual beam transucer 83/200. I am looking to upgrade to one of the 800 series with the same transducer next season. OR one of the raymarine wide screen units.
4. Just bit the bullet and ordered the Auto Pilot and hydraulic steering from Hodges Marine. All said and done $1700 not bad for both. I was going to spend 2k total on the spx kit...glad I didn't
5. Looks like Hodges has the best prices on both the AP and the steering. That who will be getting my money. I have also read some iffy reviews on the 2 sites I listed and it seems Hodges has great customer service. Thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it.
6. Lots of screwed up temps on the far east end. It made fishing a lot more difficult, I wasn't able to setup on fish nearly as easily this year, tough going but managed.
7. Beautiful boat! I'm jealous! My next will be a Pursuit or Pro-Line Express
8. Nice! That is the one I am looking for. Every couple bucks really helps the the old wallet.
9. Found it at star marine for $1283. It's the best price I have been able to find.
10. I think I have decided on the raymarine ev-100 hydraulic. Best price I could find is $1530 Sent from the awesomeness of Chas!
11. Its only flat like that when I want to wish for walleye any other time I'm out on the trench in the 4 footers and a sickly crew.
12. 1981 23' Proline Just after install of trees without the bimini. Fully loaded trolling for walleye/trout in the spring.
13. Wondering if anyone has done any business with WMJ Marine or Star Marine Depot? They seem to have the best price for Autopilot units I was looking at.
14. Do you guys mount the pumps in the cabin or in the gunwale or where? Sent from my thinking chair...
15. What would you guys recommend? I like the raymarine units because I can layer link it with a chartplotter. Keep in mind I'm a weekend warrior. Sent from my thinking chair...
16. I'm looking for the cheapest unit I have cable steering and its 2 handed steering all the time that's why I wanted the hydraulic. Sent from my thinking chair...
17. Just make sure you area allows you to keep the bass. Sent from the awesomeness of Chas!
18. So im planning on upgrading my steering to hydraulic and also an auto pilot. I am torn between 2 raymarine units the evolution 100 with a hydraulic pump and the evolution unit that uses the mechanical drive. Is there a benefit to running a hydraulically incorporated autopilot than a mechanic driven unit? Sent from the awesomeness of Chas!
19. Haha nah its in ny near sodus, that's as much as I'm telling ya. Sent from the awesomeness of Chas!
20. If flying solo the real secret is auto pilot. I have a 23' boat and there is no easy solution to fishing alone other than having a third arm or auto pilot. You're lucky that you have a tiller you can buy a raymarine tiller autopilot that would cost much less than one for my boat. If you are alone get a few inline boards and rig them so there is only a swivel on the rear and set the front release to let go on a swift rip of the rod or a hit from the fish.
21. I caught a 4.5 pounder last weekend on a small 10 acre pond. On my grandfather's farm pond we have caught 6 pounders all day long, but that isn't really fair it's like shooting fish in a barrel.
22. Once you run a spiral rods you won't own any others. They are the best setup for fighting large fish.

Sent from my thinking chair...

23. This site is a gold mine of info on lures, colors, and techniques. I have been trolling for 8 years and the last 4 religously for salmon. I read and learn things almost every day on this site. There isn't a go to lure when it comes to salmon generally you buy 3 or 10 of similar colors in hopes you bought one they want that morning and one of the others for that afternoon. 24. I like gamakatsu they seem to be the sharpest out of the box. Well worth the money
25. X2 I like longer rods because I can get the leaders in easier and out and around my outside riggers. I use 2 of the okuma 9' rods and 1 diawa 10' firewolf. I wish I would have spent the money on the longer okuma rods now. If you're that concerned about the wire just run some 50# power pro and be done with it. I fished all of july with 50# PowerPro on the 2 okuma rods and had no issues with fleas. The braid is now 3 seasons old.
