  1. 295gr. hollow points, 2 triple seven pellets and shotgun cci 209. I get 1" groups at 100 yards with my winchester apex. They load really easy. A buddy tried the ballistic tip powerbelts in his muzzleloader and they wouldn't group worth a crap they seem to be hit or miss depending on the rifle. I would call the manufacturer and see what loads they recommend.
  2. Guys you really shouldn't use carbide on your knives unless it is completely dull and maybe in a survival situation. I have talked with various professional sharpeners and they told me if you have to sharpen your knife between fish or small animals you need a better knife. I posted a thread about a knife sharpener kit I recently bought which was highly recommended by these professionals and I can see why. They all recommended ceramic sticks for touch ups but nothing will beat a good diamond or stone hone. I am guilty of having cheap filet knives but I generally sharpen them all. Once one starts to get dull I set her aside and start with one of the sharpened knives. I have found instead of a fillet knife a quality 8" boning knife with semi flexible blade will filet a good 75 fish before needing a touch up. I look at it this way if I can drop $100+ on a rod and reel then I can drop $40-$70 on a quality knife.
  3. I have used my net on my 23' boat for salmon all the way to bass and the larger hoop is cumbersome and way too over kill on smaller fish. I would strongly suggest a net for the fish being sought after i.e. fingerlakes trout could suffice with a smaller net like the walleye net than the salmon/trout net for Lake O. I stand behind my statements, this is my first hand experience but opinions are like butt holes everybody has one. haha I would take a tape measure and see how big each hoop is before ordering and make sure it will work for your setup.
  4. I have one, great net and allows you to net a good ways behind the boat. It is only a trout and salmon net I would almost recommend their walleye size for smaller boats (has smaller hoop).
  5. I use F11's mostly and a good amount of Storm prism shallow divers. I tie them directly to the line using a palomar knot. Also I would recommend a good 4'-6' floruocarbon leader (Seagur is my go too) in 15# at heaviest.
  6. Better buy them up and use them for rations!
  7. I too used to use wet stones but what is really nice about these sharpeners is that it takes the guess work out of the angles. I would recommend the diamond hone over the stones as they don't require any honing oil/moisture perfect for backpacking or general use.
  8. When will you guys be getting in your ice fishing bait?
  9. Just sharpened 2 of my older boning knives last night and this little gadget is impressive. They are razor sharp, I was able to shave my arm. Crazy how dull they were when I first got them. Now I am on a sharpening frenzy sharpening all the kitchen knives and outdoor knives. If anyone is looking to get a great sharpener that will likely outlast you I would highly recommend Lansky.
  10. I'm definitely book marking that site! Sweet find!
  11. I have a Tikka in .270. I shot a nice management buck out at 350 yards with it. Went 20 yards before rolling down the gully. Great round and the Tikka with hand loads puts it out there pretty good. I'm squeezing around 3400fps out of her.
  12. My buddy runs them with dogs, he says it is a real adrenaline rush to hear the dogs get on the yotes. From what he tells me I know what you mean.
  13. Is that an old cuda next to the boat?
  14. I have a few knives mostly cheaper ones and a few older butcher knives that are duller than a butter knife. They are all hard stainless (IIRC All around 60hrc) Sent from my thinking chair...
  15. Anyone use one of these? I am looking for a few tips. I have a bunch of kitchen, processing, and fillet knives that need to be sharpened. I have watched a few youtube videos and it seems easy enough I just figured if there were any suggestion before I do the trial and error method.
  16. Get yourself some of that bear spray. The NYC cops won't have a clue what is and you won't have any issues.
  17. I love those depthmaster rods. They seem to be great for the money!
  18. It also adds on State land only nothing to do with private property, and the cat has to be pursuing/killing a protected bird.
  19. I would try hanging myself from the scale and compare it to a bathroom scale. I was thinking that deer was well into the 160s dressed.
  20. http://www.thehulltruth.com/archive/t-551003.html Not the first time someone found that site.
  21. I vote for black river or mexico bay. I fish out of henderson a lot and do well. There is a lot species in that area if you get bored or just want to change it up. You can fish walleye in the AM, Browns, or Bass Midday, then back to walleye for the evening. There is also large amounts of perch in the area if you want to do a little perch jerking. A lot of people don't realize how great the fishery is on the east end.
  22. Wow nice. That would be a deer I would see if I could find his bedding area.
  23. The last pic of the smaller buck with the bigger guy is funny. "I know you ain't starting with me!"
