Not saying your guys methods dont work I just use my gps for the most part. I forgot to add I generally run 2 riggers off the back generally with shallow divers and 20' leads. What I like about the shallow diver is you automatically account for 8' of depth no matter what length lead (walleye lead off ball is usually 35' for me). Sent from the awesomeness of Chas!

I haven't really used my probe while walleye fishing. I run Storms and Rapalas mostly. I have a few reef runners but haven't ran them in a few years. This past season on my GPS I was running 1.9 and was getting a lot more hits going against the waves versus with the waves. Also if you have a good graph you should let that tell you where the fish are suspended. I use that and precision trolling book to figure out lure depth. Normally I like to run my lures a little above where I am marking fish. Generally speaking we run 160' leads from release back and stagger them 20 feet this is over 30' of water, looks like this: 160 170 140 150 120 130 100 110 Boat If we are shallower we just take up 10' from each. This way we are working the entire water column and alternate the lures.

I guess I should have been a little more specific, are there different spx-5 units for hydraulic steering vs the mechanical? I can't justify the cost for one of the other hydraulic style units I wouldn't utilize it enough.
-
Yes as far as I can tell. All the research I have been doing you makes me believe you need to have a raymarine unit to do the "SeaTalk" connection. From what I have read on other forums most people that have the zig-zag feature and don't really use it. I would love that feature for walleye in the spring. I will probably wait until next year for the raymarine head unit.
-
Looks like I will wait on the chartplotter and get the auto pilot. I have been looking and haven't found any info on this but is there a different unit for hydraulic steering versus cable steering? I am putting in hydraulic steering this winter as well so I wanted to make sure and get the correct one for type of steering.

Anyone know of good places to buy raymarine electronics for cheap?

I have an outboard so I'm just going to run my kicker linked to my main motor using a Panther auxiliary steering link. I already run it like that but when fishing alone it is really difficult to troll into the wind and set lines. I won't be using this under way only trolling. Can I use any GPS or only lowrance, and raymarine? I mean I wouldn't mind a nice gps but I currently have a lowrance m68c and it looks like it doesn't have NMEA capabilities only WAAS.

I am adding at the spx-5r autopilot this winter and want to link the A65 with it to allow way-point tracking. Do you guys think it would be worth the $700 just for way-point tracking? I don't know if I can justify the cost. Is that the only feature it gives me? I guess I'm not sure what other features it will allow the autopilot to do... Any extra insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chas

Anyone do business with hodgesmarine.com ?

Why will it wear out faster on hydraulic steering boat? It says it can handle up to 7000lbs. hydraulically steered boats. -

Sweet that is what I hoping to hear. They seem to have the best prices around from what I have researched. Thanks a lot guys. The money I save will go into the lure fund. -
I was looking at getting the spx-5r and they seem to have the best price even after shipping. Has anyone done business with them before? Here is their full web address http://www.hodgesmarine.com Here is the link to the autopilot: http://www.hodgesmarine.com/Raymarine-Spx5r-P70r-Pilot-p/rayt70016.htm?click=19 Thanks, Chas

When I find walleyes I try to pm the guys that are looking for info. I don't like to publicize the location where I catch them only by pm just for the reason that if the lurkers can't contribute why should they wreak the benefits of being a member. Anyone know if the warm water reports are open to public or like the salmon reports? Sent from my thinking chair...

I believe it is the wildgame axe 3mp from dicks and is 69.99 I think.

To combat this they should suspend/hold accounts fromt he classifieds and reports until they post at least 10 times. Classified wise I have seen on other forums where they have a seller/buyer rating. Maybe we counld incorporate something like that. That should fix the problem.

I was running purple almost everytime I was out and not a single taker, also my spooks did next to nothing when last year they did well. Good: FLT King of Sting FLT Super Skank DW 42nd DW UV NBK DW Halo NBK Those were the only spoons to produce for me, and weren't very constant.

Here are a couple of the biggest deer on the property so far. Solid little 1.5 year old. Now I just have to keep my father from blasting him. He has a tendency to shoot the little guys for whatever reason.

Is a thumb hole consider pistol grip as it is all one piece of the rear stock unlike a pistol grip stock.

I went to the gun show up in rochester's tech park a few weeks back and they had NY Legal AR15. They simply just spot welded the magazine into the lower. You need to break the gun like a single shot to load then shut her back up and you're ready to go. Simple fix for an idiotic law.

Cuomo signs law requiring boating safety courses
Chas0218 replied to L&M's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Haha ya I didn't really understand what everyone was getting so mad about. As it states we are all grandfathered in and it is only for 18 and under, and purchasing a boat. I highly doubt a marina is going to care whether or not they have the certificate they will sell the boat to them anyway. Not like they are going to be held responsible if the guy goes out and kills someone or wrecks it in the first 20 minutes of owning it. -
Anyone in the elmira, corning area that would be interested in shooting leagues this winter? It isn't an elite league just come shoot and enjoy the commradary hang out, talk shooting and hunting. $80 for 10 week league. I would consider the more proressional league if someone would rather shoot that. It would be at t&t outdoors in corning. Let me know by pm I can give you my number we could meet up have a couple beers and get it all setup. Sent from the awesomeness of Chas!

Cuomo signs law requiring boating safety courses
Chas0218 replied to L&M's topic in Open Lake Discussion
You are correct. The last time I asked the Coast Guard about it they said "Technically they are not exempt". But I would be willing to bet that if they pulled over a person with a Captain's license it wouldn't have been to check if they were certified. -

Good gene 1.5 yrs. old. I shot one like that 2 years ago on our property and regret every second of it. The last picture looks like he is 3.5yrs. The other ones look like they are 2.5 yrs. old. I'm with Ray on aging those deer. I have a 5.5 year old, a 3.5 year old, and a good gene 2.5 year old on my wall and they all look about right for yours.
