Joe, I am not an instructor but i think being one is very important. Your insights for the next generation will be imposed on these young impressionable minds. If you make valid points, they will be able to form their own opinions even after they are removed from your class and return to the "different" ideas of their clan. I found this on the DEC sight. All I know about it is that it takes some time. Thank you, Joe http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9189.html Good luck

I am kind of a cheap sob and vanish is the only line I ever threw away brand new. Absolutely worthless. The abrasion resistance and knot strength are terrible and I can not imagine how you can modify something that is that bad in performance. It is like they spent all their development dollars coming up with the cool and catchy marketing name and forgot to use so $$ for making a line that performs at the very least - decently. Spend a few extra dollars on the front end and get P-line, a lil bit more, Seaguar and then you will ultimately save money on the back end although you probably won't even know it. You will be too busy taking hero shots.
-
Why would you do it at all? This is a prime example where the offenders need to have their hunting privlidges revoked.
-
I like Seaguar better as well.

Nice dog. I like the enthusiasm to keep going.

Starting to sound more like a sore winner... If the sports world revolves around Boaston than you shouldn't have to say anything to defend them. "Title Town" - right? Win a few super bowls, world series and you go from whiners to mud slingers. What does Harbaugh have to do with nobody liking the pats outside of New England?

Trophy hunter mentality is aligned with restrictions. Venison hunter mentality is aligned with choice. I saw two 4pts from my stand (same time) this bow season. 1 was almost twice the size of the other. Blanket restrictions are stupid only that it opens the flood gates to let big brother in. No restrictions and education is best. Educate then repeat. The old dogs that refuse to learn new tricks will fade away and the new generation will have a fresh set of ideas. And for all of the modern thinkers that believe letting all of the small racks go is part QDM than you need to read up on that a bit more too. It takes years of accurate culling to get the healthy herds to where they need to be besides all of the nutrition. Can it be done. Yes. Should you encourage it in your area? Sure. But if someone tells my 70yr old mother she can't shoot a spike, I will be irate. BTW, she wouldn't but that is her choice and should remain that way. my 2 pennies, Joe

Thun, settle down buddy. "exhale" It is ok. I am a J-E-T-S fan and I laugh about all the hijinx that surrounds them. The butt fumble will never get old. Makes me smile just thinking about it. There is a reason Peyton is making millions more in endorsements than Tom Brady. Payton is likeable. There is a reason Belichek is called belicheat. He is a good coach who uses W-I-T to win games and teams/fans that need excuses find them. I am looking forward to watching giselle throw a temper tantrum in the vip box at the super bowl. That is what I am looking forward to most. After all Tom can't throw the ball and catch it too. <poke the dragon> I think this whole scandal is funny as two cannibals eating a clown. Does anybody really care about the football psi?

I did not recieve this diectly so I can not vouch for the accuracy. From: Phillips, Frank J (DEC) [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, January 23, 2015 3:16 PM To: Phillips, Frank J (DEC) Subject: Deer Management changes ??? Dear Instructors and other sportsmen and women; There are currently a lot of rumors going around about possible changes to deer seasons this coming fall, and in particular, the widespread implementation of mandatory antler restrictions (ARs). As with most rumors, there is a grain of truth somewhere, but there are a lot of inaccuracies and almost panic going around right now. Please take a minute to read the following. This is really what’s going on: - Cornell recently sent a survey to 7k hunters to find out what they VALUE when it comes to deer hunting (eg; seeing lots of bucks, seeing larger antlers, the freedom to shoot a buck of their choice, etc). - The state will be broken down into just a few broad geographic areas, and survey results will be evaluated to determine what hunters value in each separate area. - Not all deer hunters were surveyed; sending a survey to 7k random big game hunters provides statistically significant results. - We do NOT yet have the results of this survey, but when we do… - Based on what the majority of hunters value in each separate area, we can tailor one of several different buck harvest strategies to each separate area to maximize hunter satisfaction. - Management strategies include: 1. doing nothing different; or 2. the active promotion of voluntary antler restrictions; or 3. a shorter Regular Firearms season (shorten by one week in the Southern Zone, and two weeks in the Northern Zone); or 4. a 1-buck bag limit; or 5. mandatory antler restrictions all of bow season through the 1st week of Regular Firearms Season; or 6. mandatory antler restrictions all seasons. - While it is possible we may see some changes by this fall, time is running short to do that. Gas law (rearanged) P2=(P1V1T2)/(T1V2) P = pressure V = Volume T = temperature (K) 1 = initial 2 = final Assumptions RT = 300K where balls were inflated (a bit toasty). Playing field was 273K (I deflated it a bit - 32F) initial Football pressure was 12.5psi. Volume is constant so we can rearange more time. P2=P1T2/T1 P2=12.5*273/300 = 11.3psi For P1 = 13.5psi P2 = 12.3psi I cut (rel. small) corners because I can and do not care. I also assumed worse case scenario with temp difference which is also false. Here is an article that explains it better and in more precise terms. http://www.wcsh6.com/story/weather/2015/01/20/inflate-gate-weather-roll/22065861/

Float fishing the genny
BSmaster replied to britty's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I think he does mean lake run. I assumed he was putting in at the channel and running upstream towards the falls. We mention MT morris because he is from Dansville- easy to check water quality below letchworth than driving all the way up to irondequoit. -

After thaw have to worry about being blown out. Swing by Mt morris (avatar says Dansville) if possible to check water conditions before planning that. A river jet might be a good choice for a vessel too. i have seen these up by the falls. Good luck. Sounds like it would be a fun trip. -
Largest Pike this winter?
BSmaster replied to Finders Keepers's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
I agree with Justin but back to my earlier comments about balance. I am not sure if this tourny will make a negative impact or not. We cited Conesus as a prime example of what happens when the big gals are removed but I do not believe that was from a tourny. Just normal fishing in a lake central to just about everywhere. Look at Conesus Cam sometime in the winter on a not so cold and windy day and look at all the shantys. It sees a lot of pressure without a tourny. Fortunately Pike are resilient and can eventually rebound. But not in a year, so how is the fishery? That I don't know. I like to eat a few now and then so the 2 footers are nice but sport fishing for these smaller pike when you know you should have bigger ones will be annoying to guys who travel for good fishing. So while tournies promote fishing and give some boost to the economy so does the thrill of catching quality fish which can bring in tourist dollars too. exagerated ex. What would the loss of steelhead do to Pulaski? People travel for Pike too albeit not as much as other sport fish. I think it is good that we are thinking about it but I really do not know what the overall outcome will be. I will say that if you remove a trophy fish from the ecosystem and it doesn't go on the wall or in somebodies belly, than that is pretty shhh it eeee.... Joe -

I haven't been there since last Saturday but it has been colder and it was skim ice then.

Did you try asking HVS? I think Basspro fixes them. I have replaced a lot of rod tips but all have been on smaller dollar rods. Not pretty - just functional.

Chaumont bay can be very productive as well. I think you picked a good spot for a camp - Kinda central to all that excellent fishing. Can't cover it all in one day. That's what I find most enticing. Most people probably think of walleye fishing in that area but I believe that it is loaded with other opportunities as well. Wish I could get up that way more often. There use to be a bait shop right in Dexter, next to the launch.
