  1. Those of you that run dive bombs on coppers can you chime in on your favorite set up? Do you run the dive bomb on the leader end of the copper or do you hook it to the backing? What have you find to be the best way to deploy them with out tangling other lines, besides clearing the whole side of the boat? What is your preferred length of copper to run while using what size dive bomb? Any help is appreciated, I am really getting tired of running long coppers, they take the fun out of fishing at times. Has anyone ever tried running regular "walleye style" snap weights on coppers? If so, how did it work? Sorry for all the questions, just looking for a better mouse trap I guess.
  2. Thanks Rod, that's a great idea!
  3. Good job Chris. Nice to see you found some bigger fish. That's weird that the riggers were working the best for you. We didn't do much at all on them when we were there. How bad were the white bass? They can sure take the fun out of a trip in a hurry.
  4. Rod, Do you just hook the clip meant for the rigger ball to the planer line so its hanging upside down with the release arm facing rearward and then hook up the backing? Sounds like a good idea, I love those releases on my riggers.
  5. Pete, I think that's a great way to look at it! Good advice.
  6. Not sure about the change in action since the paddle is what is imparting the action on the fly to begin with. If you can keep your single hooks in tandem facing opposite directions I think they work great. Like you said, when you stick a hook in a fish it usually stays, and they are a heck of a lot easier to get out of the net.
  7. Brett, The rod ninja is just a blur for the unprepared!
  8. We usually do well on fire tiger willow leaf blades

Nice job! How's the water temp? Is the lake starting to set up?
  11. I remember being 9 or 10 and not being able to sleep the night before I finally got to go with my dad and his buddy to Mexico Bay in his 16 ft blue fin. Just riggers stacked with black and purple NK-28s, and silver dodgers and blue squids. Also remember my dad HATING boat traffic to the point where we would be fishing miles away from it just because. After asking all day if we could try "Over where all the boats are" we doubled up on a 26 and 28# king in the first ten minutes! I learned a lesson that day. Traffic is a P.I.T.A but you have to drag lures where the fish are!
  12. How fast were you going? If you were going too slow they will sink faster but hitting 104 with 150 out sounds like a possible line counter issue as mentioned above.
  13. Glad to hear you had some better fishing. Our report is negative I'm afraid. Going out of the chute at Fair Haven with Forester Dave and he hit the throttle to get up on plane and the motor took off but the boat went nowhere . Not sure if we spun the prop or had outdrive issues but we could only go about 3 mph so we turned around and limped back to the dock without wetting a line. Glad to see someone had better luck than we did.
  14. fished long point yesterday afternoon and they were getting bad. MUCH WORSE than last week.
  15. Thanks, will let you know how it goes. Its our first trip of the year!
  16. Thanks Nick, We are going to try Fair haven in the morning. Any colors stand out?
  17. Fishing is pretty good at Deans but it half way up the lake from Ithaca.
  18. Hit the water at 6:30-11:00 with Forester Dave. Fished from Sheldrake to Deans. 60-200 fow. Went about 18 for 20 or so. Purple/silver spoons did some damage but the majority of our fish came on the wire with a green SD and a Dirty White Boy fly tied up by Minion! Nothing huge, mostly lakers, a few short landlocks with a beautiful 4# rainbow to end on that hit a 4 color core with a 3 oz dive bomb pulling a stinger chicken wing. Had a few flea issues, but not too bad yet.
  19. Has anyone seen a difference in hook up ratios between wire vs mono harnesses?
  20. Does anyone have any contact info for Marine General?
  21. Nice Work. The smiles sure make it more fun!
  22. I don't run twinkies, just a straight leader, per conversations with Mike.
  23. Good Luck Chris and everyone headed to Barcelona. We are hoping to head out July 5th-8th. Hopefully you guys get em figured out and fill the freezer! That's what we are hoping for as well. Pap, When are you heading up there?
