  1. Mike, That did not make my day.
  2. Signed! Would be nice if someone would listen to us instead of people that don't have a stake in the game!
  3. The coast guard launch in sodus is a good early season alternative to fair haven sometimes if necessary.
  4. The orange one looks good. I've never tried them with the flatfish style lure behind them. What speed do you run them?
  5. Sorry to hear that Matt. My Yellow Lab Kenai just turned 9 and you can see the hands of time slowing him down physically but the heart of these dogs never waivers. We ALL hold on to the outstanding memories of the past where they will live in our hearts forever, hopefully they can help to sustain you through this difficult time. DJ
  6. I had some dream weaver flies that had tubing instead of all beads. I caught fish on the Mtn Dew version. Didn't fish too many others that were built like it.
  7. 2 years ago we caught an 8# eye in july at mid day out of Fair Haven. 80 ft down on a cheater with a wonderbread stinger! Tell you how screwed up the water column was that day?? Never targeted walleyes on Ontario but on Erie: Firetiger, perch, blk/silver, black/purple, and watermelon all produce. In stick baits as well as harnesses. Usually have the best luck on lead core. Length obviously depending on water temp.
  8. 10-4 Pap I agree.
  9. I thought it would also automatically shut off if it was not in motion for 45 seconds, meaning going up or down in the water column? I've had times where I sent one down on a rigger and left it for a few minutes and when it came up it had already turned off.
  10. I've got the same problem There is a 3 ft drift in front of the door but the neighbor plowed a 6 ft high by 12 ft long pile in front of the door. Not good...
  11. I put in a section of mono between the core and the braid backer also. I know it adds more knots but I feel more comfortable placing the boards on the mono instead of the braid. Like Pap said, 4-7 colors are great lengths for Erie when we go in early July. For those of you that run snap weights on them I have a question. If you place the weight on the leader instead of behind the core itself doesn't it counteract the "loping whip" action of the core itself? I would think it would retain the action better if the weight was behind the core??
  12. I was experimenting with tying up some tournament style ties with 2 single hooks. I wanted the 2 hooks to point in opposite directions. The problem I was having with the few that I did was that when I went to tighten the second snell the line would twist and the hook would change positions and usually end up with both hooks facing the same way. I was not using a vise. Would using a vise eliminate this issue? Any other ideas?
  13. In the finger lakes they are relentless fighters to a fault. Sometimes it is very hard to revive the small ones that hit spoons half their size due to the fact that they exert so much energy and sometimes they are dragged for awhile without even knowing they are there. Makes you sick to work at reviving a little guy and watch him swim down only to go belly up 100 yds behind the boat and get nailed by a damn seagull. I have had good luck catching them on small copper spoons as well.
  14. There are lots of Landlocks in the finger lakes as well. Pound for pound they are the hardest fighting salmonid in the finger lakes IMHO. They are beautiful and they taste pretty good as well. My home lake is Cayuga and they must be 18" to be legal.
  15. May the holes in your net be no larger than the fish in it. ~Irish Blessing
  16. I was pretty much in the middle on the west side. Just walked in from a friends camp. I was pretty much in no mans land, it dropped off so quick it would take a lot of hiking to find perch in that area. I don't know the lake that well so sorry I can't give more specifics.
  17. In college a buddy walked up to a girl we didn't know at a bar and I swear to god says " Nice shoes wanna F^%K!" Luckily for him he ducked quickly immediately after.
  18. I walked out on owasco today and drilled a few holes and there was 5-6 inches of ice. There were shanty's farther out than I was but I have also heard that the ice depth varies quite a bit from place to place. The nice thing was there was minimal snow cover. I jigged for perch for a little while but had no action. Hope this helps you out a little.
  19. If you really wanted to try to run 2 lures off a dipsy you could put a three way swivel at the end of your leader behind the dipsy. then run 2 leaders of different lengths, 1 to a diving plug, and the other to a spoon. let it out VERY slow and it should run true. It will be a mess when you get a fish but it may work if you have the patience to try it. It works on walleyes, not sure how much of a disaster it would be on a king?? Or god forbid if 2 ever hit at the same time!! I would think it would be game over real quick
  20. Its also pretty amazing how much shallower guys can catch kings toward the west end in the summer time. Many times I have been talking to guys to the west catching fish 70 ft down and we have to fish over 100. They can be very different fisheries for sure.
  21. Eat Organic, Shoot Nosler!
  22. Thanks Rick, I guess I should have done a little searching first.
