  1. While trolling the new guy comes out with: Its a lot calmer out here than the weatherman said it was going to be. I thought the wind was supposed to blow?? UGH. What happens next?
  2. INSANITY: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
  3. Broke off, We run those small pro-trolls on the finger lakes with a small spoon behind. We have caught landlocks and rainbows and occasional laker early in the year on them in the upper half of the water column.

    Record perch ?

Why is it necessary to cut down a kids great fishing moment of a lifetime because of the way the damn picture was taken? I hope she gets the record, what a great moment for her family regardless of what "technique" was used to take the picture. Congrats young lady. I can only hope to have exciting moments like that with my twins when they are old enough to get after the perch!
  5. Has anyone else tried to modify otter boats by adding a piece of metal to the keel to make it longer to pull harder? I tried but the piece I attached was way too heavy and they sunk too much on inside turns. Was just trying to come up with some kind of wing to make them pull harder without the 2nd keel
  6. Like with most things MODERATION is probably at the root of the solution. Take only what your family can use, and don't waste anything for the sake of killing an animal. I implement my own antler restrictions but they can not be an across the board ultimatum for everyone. Deer grow in too many wondrous configurations to make a blanket statement. Quick example: 2 years ago I was hunting a Huge 6 point. If I was unable to harvest this animal if given a chance that would be incredibly wrong in my opinion. Someone from the neighboring property shot it opening day of gun season and it was at least a 4 1/2 yr old animal and it weighed 207# in mid November. Its G2's were over 14" long. Is that not a "QUALITY" deer? While I can understand the need for nuisance permits in some cases they are definitely being abused! There is someone near me that has around 60 permits and just shoots the deer and leaves them where they lay. The warden is after them but with only 2 officers for the entire county that is a tall order to fill. Work together with those around you. We could use less gov't interference, not encourage more! For example: SAFE ACT
  7. That's exactly what I was talking about with the flasher file.
  8. Amish outfitters flasher file for flasher/ flies, or something similar. You can rig the flasher and fly and oput it in the compartments then roll the whole thing up for storage, they are very handy. I built my own special mate style box out of a $10 home depot tool box and some dividers with 15 notches cut in the top. It can hold around 400 spoons.
  9. And bring lots of gasoline. That's a long troll!
  10. Jason, I am still interested in helping you out with the field testing if you need it. Paint looks great.
  11. Russell, What is your preferred lead length and delivery device when fishing plugs? I saw them on the riggers ( how far back?), but when do you run them on copper or core, or dipsy?
  12. Gill, Do you usually match the spoon and flasher colors? Or run 2 different patterns, if so what are determining factors for you? Ive run flasher/ spoons for lakers on the fingers, ( usually a small Sutton trailing) but only minimal times on Lake O
  13. Baddad, How long of a leader do run from the flasher to the spoon? Approx 30"? Are you targeting trout or salmon mainly when you run that style set up?
  14. Before I bought my clam flip over shelter, I had just an old style steel runner children's, that I used as a kid. I then just zip tied 3 milk crates to the platform and that carried everything I needed and pulled great. The only down side was if the ice was real broken up from a previous wind and it refroze into a jumbled mess. Then the runners weren't quite far enough apart. But if you have an old sled lying around it is a real easy way to haul gear.
  15. Chase, Regarding the tips and tricks question from above, what about featuring a tips and tricks section with a different team each week? That way you can keep your show intact and add the info for people that are trying to learn as well as be entertained. leader lengths, lure patterns, productive speeds etc... Just a thought, DJ
  16. Like Bosun above I Also own an Alumacraft. I have a 175 Dominator. I fish Ontario, and the finger lakes. I have also had it on Lake Erie. If you fish any kind of weather at all I would definitely go for something with a full walk through windshield. I fish from February on weather permitting and would never be with out the windshield for cover for both wind while running and precipitation. I love my Alumacraft
  17. Franklins in Locke dips everything, 'Ive seen golf clubs, truck rims, all sorts of stuff in there.
  18. OUTSTANDING! I took my twin 3 yr olds out twice during bow season, yes separately. one boy and one girl. They both loved it, and have both asked to go multiple times during gun season. I have not taken them out with a gun since they have yet to be around anything larger than a .22 and they aren't real big fans of loud noises so I plan on introducing that to them slowly. When I got a buck and a coyote they couldn't wait to both see it and touch it. I had a blast with them in the blind and can't wait to do it more next year. They are so into the outdoors so far that our family Christmas card ( at the suggestion of my wife! ) Has a picture of Daniel holding a 5lb lake trout he caught on July 4th, and a picture of myself holding Kyleigh on the way to the woods for her first hunt!
  19. Sandwick, How did you flock the heads and tails on your silhouettes? They look great. Thanks
  20. That much snow sucks for everything! Good idea packing some trails especially if you can get it to a native food source.
  21. It has been way below normal around me as well. Maybe some of it can be attributed to some warm weather, but as a whole it has been non-existent. Or as is probably the case, I'VE BEEN IN THE WRONG SPOTS!
  22. Not trying to be a smart alec but were you in low gear?
  23. We use that trick on Lake Erie most times we go.
  24. Stinger, That is a little reassuring at least but even if this is pure conjecture; and it gets more people out to vote against Cuomo I believe the better off we all are. Albany is a very corrupt place and he is the head of the snake at the moment. I too sent my representatives ( Finch and Nozzolio, who voted against the safe act) letters last year after the safe act passage and included that I would be in favor of exploring options of separation between upstate and NYC/Long Island. In my own opinion it might be a win-win for both sides. They can pass as many government control bills they want about gun control, education funding, etc.. or anything else and we can be left to our own elected officials that are not influenced by down state money and/or voting power. New York is definitely 2 vastly different demographics that do not coexist very well together as far as upstate is concerned. UP state seems to always lose. Despite what their attack ads say. As far as a line, maybe Westchester county and south would work for me. I lived in Northern Dutchess county for 9 years and most of it is very much like here.
