Hemlock 7-29 Hemlock Bow-Picture-Wide and not too long..
BrookTrout replied to laker taker's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
What a slob rainbow. I have thought about checking Hemlock out with the kayak, how does it fish in the fall? -
Nice fish, I love those epic days.

Thanks for the report. I was just thinking how perplexed (and maybe disturbed) a non fisherman would be if they read your post. We really speak in code sometimes, I remember when I first started reading messages on forums about trolling and how I wasn't always sure what they were talking about, its nice to know the language now.

Thanks for the report, sounds like a good day besides breaking the rod.

Sounds like a good evening trip, nice report. Its funny how the fleas seemed so bad for awhile and now they are almost nonexistent.

Went out in the Kayak this morning and trolled with the lead core on the east side, first time trolling from the yak, very surprised at how much drag it created. It was nice to be able to dodge through the weed mats. No fish, but very fun way to travel, might have to throw a fish finder on there and get more serious about it down the line. Went out this evening looking for the evening bite, but never found it. Had trouble finding much bait in the same places it was thick the other day. Caught 2 dink salmon and one 17". Pretty slow, but nice evening to be out. Trolled up the west side and down in the south end. The temp break was between 40-50ft.

Got out on the lake for a couple hours last evening and the action was decent in the southern half of the lake. Started along the painted rocks and back over by the Salt Point. Right around sunset lots of fish came up near the thermo cline and I was busy with lots of short salmon with a few skinny legal fish in the mix, several 2-3 lb bows and one 6.5 lb laker that wouldn't burp and went into the cooler. Lost what felt like a nice salmon on the lead core. Out at 5:30am this morning started by the Salt Point headed north and got a few short salmon. Picked up and headed north to Glenora and picked up a couple skinny salmon, and one big laker about 8 lbs that faired better than the one from the night before and swam back into the depths. Missed a couple decent fish off the rigger and core. Fished one DR at 55-65ft with vert blades and a slider, 10 color lead core and dipsey back 175-225ft. All rods took fish with a variety of spoons. Weeds and fleas were a non-issue which was great. Going to get out a couple more times the next few days I hope.

Wow, some very helpful information, I did not know that bait could appear as a "hook" always thought they appeared like clouds. That would definetely explain why they appear so tall. Glad to hear others have the surface clutter and its not just me. I will keep playing with the settings. Thanks for all the information guys, very helpful! Jon

Wow, great report, you sure had more action than me, guess I needed to drop the lines a little deeper....

Good luck!

Just haven't gotten around to posting from the weekend. I wasn't able to fish as much as I'd like but got out for a few hours each morning. Fished the southern end from Watkins to Kibbe, mostly on the west side. Weeds were hit or miss but generally not too bad on the west side and fleas were minimal with the flea flicker. Caught about a dozen small salmon with only a couple keepers in the mix. Also got 2 nice rainbows in the 3lb range that went onto the grill and tasted fantastic! Thermocline seemed to be down around 40-50ft, most fish came off the riggers and both rainbows on sliders down about 30ft. Lost a couple good salmon behind the boat, but otherwise nothing too exciting. I am still getting used to my new sonar and took this pic of the screen on the east side. I assume the big arcs are fish but how come they seem to be 20ft from top to bottom, if they are fish how do you know the depth, the top of the arc, the middle? Also I have noticed lots of surface clutter and even with the surface clutter filter option on high there is always like 20ft of clutter? Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks for the report. I am going out tomorrow am, hoping to dodge the weeds and find some silver...

Wow that is amazing how well you can see the action unfolding, very very cool. I might have to try jigging sometime just to see that live...

Very cool, are the diagonals on the screen fish chasing?

Very nice report, sounds like a great morning!

My girlfriends kids are coming to stay with me at my cottage next week on the south end of Seneca. I fished for panfish as a kid and never had any problem putting a minnow down with some split shot off the dock or from the canoe and catching a nice mixed bag of perch, rockbass and smallies. Last summer they came up and we tried with minnows/worms off the dock for hours without much to show. I know the lake has changed a lot with the weeds, zebra mussels, etc and haven't seen the panfish around the shallows I remember as a kid. So long story short, any advice on techniques/places nearby that a 6 and 8 yr old with limited patience can easily catch fish. Don't think they would get that psyched with trolling (I might try one morning anyway). They have only fished a couple times with me and have very limited casting and patience skills. They do love bobbers as all kids do I'm sure. The good thing is that a 3 inch sunfish makes them very excited. Thanks in advance for any help. Jon

Rabbit, Thanks for all the detailed reports, sounds like the lake is not being easy these days. I was hoping to get today/tomorrow, but that wind forecast is a little much for my 16.5 footer. I haven't seen the water you're mentioning, but it sounds like algae of some sort??? Maybe that effected 02 levels resulting in fishkill, just my armchair diagnosis. Jon

I use the 20 and have no complaints.
