  1. Yeah man! Sounds like you have it dialed in, nice work, very impressive. Jon
  2. Nice fish, glad you got a good early bite.
  3. Nice job on the slam. I was at the shop on Friday and talked to Danny, he was looking forward to going out with ya, looks like he had a good time. Jon
  4. Wow what an awesome looking landlocked, thanks for putting him back hopefully to grown even bigger....
  5. Nick, Great post, love the details and emotion. Your determination to fish despite the weather is impressive, I wasn't up on the lake last weekend but couldn't imagine being out in the wind. Congrats, you deserve it. Jon
  6. Sounds like some people have come up with some fixes for this problem or workarounds which I would certainly try and I hope work for you. I had the same unit and repeatedly had the same issue when trolling, it would be fine then show 0-2 ft depth. Somedays worse than others, worse in deeper water, sometimes fixed by powering on or off or going into shallower water. I played with settings, had the unit checked by Humminbird, got a replacement unit , new transducers, rewired the whole thing and finally bought a Lowrance and haven't had a problem since. I really hope you can figure the problem out cause I like Humminbird and never had a prob before this and the CS was great throughout but I just couldn't keep spending time trying to get it to just consistently read the bottom depth. Certainly contact CS if problems persist, they were great although they never could fix the issue... Good luck hope you figure out an easy fix, some good ideas on the thread Erabbit linked
  7. Sounds like a good start, thanks for the report.
  8. Nice looking healthy salmon, thanks for the report
  9. Glad you guys had a great day despite your "loss". Not that it compares but I was excitingly casting to some rising browns on a local stream the other day and my entire leader/tippet/fly unattached itself from my fly line and floated down the river, felt bad about "polluting" but took it in stride and by the time I rigged a new leader there were still fish rising! Hope you can post some pics when you get your camera back, thanks for the post/report.
  10. Nice Fat Brown!
  11. AC, great thread man, I have followed along with the Eastern Brook Trout Restoration efforts. I feel that the benefits of identifying and protecting current/prospective habitat far outweighs any increased fishing pressure. I have been exploring some brook trout streams in Region 7 and have been pleasantly surprised but some of the small fisheries I have "discovered", but might do a little prospecting on small streams in Region 8 this season and would be happy to pass along any info. Jon
  12. I agree with others, June is a great month to chase cold water fish on the finger lakes. Just a heads up, the fingers have several invasives including the spiny water flea that can be a nuisance and also they could try to hitch ride home to NH with you so take the proper precautions on both ends. I have been fishing Seneca now for 2 seasons targeting landlocks and have had some long tough days with few fish and some amazing days with some real trophies. Good luck with your trip!
  13. Nice job Sean, great report. Glad you guys got into fish. I am itching to get out, maybe I'll have to break out my snowshoes and hike down to my boat this week.....
  14. I would be interested in helping out/ lending support, thanks for taking initiative.
  15. Happy holidays to everyone. Nice looking spread of fishing booty.
  16. Nice report, sounds like things are heating up a bit on the southend, my boat is in limbo mode, ready to go with an hour or so prep, but with all this snow might be tough getting down the hill.... Thanks for the report
  17. I know that buck tails work amazingly well for salmon in streams up in Maine, and they were very effective in Champlain as well. I always carry a box and like to mix them into the spread. My favorite has always been the Green Ghost.
  18. tks for the info, I sent you a PM.
  19. Nice looking fish, thanks for the report. Looks like the laker bite is picking up. Nice looking salmon in the box, how deep were you fishing??
  20. Got out for a few hours this afternoon. Targeted the south end, lots of bait and fish stacked up near the opening of the canal and then more isolated groups spread out. LOTS of small salmon (10-16") and a pair of 2lb bows kept me busy. Also fished up the east side and got a couple slightly bigger salmon and lost a big one that snapped my 10lb leader . Its been awhile since I got a good sized salmon?? but the small ones are abundant and healthy looking. Might try again later this week, anyone finding any larger salmon??
  21. Got up to my cottage in the afternoon on the 14th. Got out for a quick troll picking up some short salmon and 2 keepers on the east side down south. Up and out early the next day, moved to the south but found a blank screen, worked my up the west side angling slowly out in deeper water and hit a nice deep pocket of bait with a mix of bows and silver up higher in the water column. Did some trib scouting/fishing in the middle part of the day with nothing to show. Back out in the evening where I left off earlier. Lost a couple nice silver fish behind the boat and picked up a couple lakers as well. Out in the morning the next day, beautiful cold morning. Ran some shallow lines tight to shore along the south end and up to the salt point, had a couple rips on a stick bait, but no hookups. Got a nice keeper salmon working back to the canal mouth in slightly deeper water and a couple dinks. All in all I went something like 15/20 in 3 days fishing about 10hours. Caught 3 rainbows from 2-4lbs, about 6 sub-legal salmon, 3 keeper salmon and 2 lakers in the 4-6lb range. Most fish came at 35ft on a chicken-wing DW SS fished with a long lead on the rigger. 6 color lead core also produced. Lakers were around 55ft. Most fish were out over 200-400 FOW. Not much to show for the shallow program. Had the lake mostly to myself which was nice. Surface temps around 50.
  22. Yeah I stopped and checked yesterday, water was low and clear, didn't see any fish. Did see one redd in a tailout but that was it. Did find some nice browns crammed into a very small trib on another nearby lake, but this is a trib with about 150 yards to the first impassible falls and is entirely on private property with no access (except for me!) I didn't fish for the obviously spawning and extremely vulnerable browns. I could have pretty much netted them if I wanted. It was cool to watch the fish doing their thing. There were probably 10 mature fish in the 4-8lb range on reds with many smaller browns there for the party as well. Not sure when/if the browns/salmon will run on Cayuga.?.?.
  23. I was out a few days after and water levels came up nicely, but I didn't spot any fish....
  24. Nice to see a Seneca report and pics, nice looking large laker and good to salmon in the mix as well. I am hoping to get out later this week...
  25. 9/9 - Made an early morning drive through the fog to get a half-day troll in. Fished the south 1/3 of the lake, starting on the western shore and working out into the middle. Got a few short salmon and then a nice 4 lb bow off the lead core that saved the day. 9/12 - Went out for an evening troll that was pretty slow but got a few salmon including a nice keeper. 9/13 - Got out in the morning and headed to the southend where I found sparse weeds. Trolled along the south side marking fish and bait intermittently in the 40-60ft zone and starting picking away at fish along the west side up near the tikki bar. Made a few loops through this area and got at least a release each time. Ended up with 5 salmon and 2 browns. Bite was off the lead core (10 colors with snap weight) and riggers down 55ft. Orange and green were the hot colors by far. Beautiful Seneca Sunrise burning off the fog Early morning rainbow over the salt point. Hard fighting bow saves the day Headed for the grill
