  1. What were you guys running?
  2. Black and clear works well for us... but just keep on experimenting who knows you may find a multicolored diver with sparkles on it to work hahaha
  3. My friend Roberto got a Third place finish in the teen division of the Seneca Lake trolling derby so id just like to give a shout out to him. He caught some big Lake Trout to take it. I just cant wait until I see his face when I put him on a rod with a rampaging 30lbs king on Lake Ontario.
  4. Hi guys cdq's dad I fished Wilson/ bar area for 9 days straight fri the3rd started out14 for 17 then sat. 5for9 sun. 5for 7 all kings had other commitment stopped fishin 11:30 rest of the wk. very slow worked hard for average 3 bites a day fish and bait hit the bottom and scattered . Threw everything at them. Been fishing up there. Every spring since 92 one of the toughest yrs. wish loc derby was this coming wk.
  5. They actually do not make fin-lander spoons anymore
  6. 13 years ago when I was 2 years old I caught my first Salmon in the Spring LOC derby, and have loved fishing for these fish ever since. The west part of Lake Ontario during the Spring is the place to be fishing for Salmon and Trout species. May 3rd: Didnt really have a game plan for the first day of the tournament. So we just decided to head straight out of port and set up in 60 feet of water and see if we couldn't turn a Laker or a King. We had just finished setting up and the back rigger on my side fired off with a King on. Fish came on a Mag NK with green, gold, and silver colors on it. After we released that fish the back rigger on my dads fired with a laker. Fish came on a fin-lander spoon in a black, green, white, and silver colors and we couldn't keep the fish off that spoon for the rest of the day as we went 14-17 with a mixed bag of kings and Lakers. Fish came in 60-80 feet of water with the deepest rigger at 72 feet. Kinda frustrated I only got 2 fish to fire on my side of the boat. May 4th: Started off in the same water we fished the day before and was starting off slow getting a laker off the bat on the fin-lander spoon. Things then got a little out of control as we were swallowed up by a whole swarm of boats as far as the eye could see east, west, north, and south. But then things started to pick up for us starting with a TRIPLE of Kings. All 3 fish were teenagers 12, 16, 18 lbs. First fish was the first fish we had on the torpedo diver ever. Spoon was a silver streak black fin tuna. 2nd fish was on the side rigger. Spoon was Finger Lakes King of sting. 3rd fish on the back rigger spoon was the fin-lander spoon again. Lets just say my dad told me to give up because all the rods on his side was cleared while the rods on my side didnt move. We were fishing in 60 to 100 foot of water in the morning then moved off shore to 2-300 foot of water getting another lake trout and 3 more kings. Went 8 for 11 the whole day. May 5th: Instead of fishing in the shallows for the day we decided to go offshore again. It was a slow day for us as we went 4 for 5 with all fish being kings in the teenage size range. Hot lure was still the fin-lander but got fish on the black fin tuna and the king of sting. May 6th: Unfortunately I had to go to school today but called up my dad periodically to see how him and his buddy were doing. They only went 2 for 4 with small coho's. I also got the opportunity to see my 2 favorite boats that are on Lake Ontario. Team Thrillseekers and U-Betcha sportfishing what 2 amazing rigs.
  7. Got up this morning at 5 and towed the boat up to Wilson. Didnt start fishing until 11. And only fished for 2 hours. We went 3 for 6 with 2 huge lake trout. Surface temp was 45-47 degrees. Trolling between 40-70 feet of water. Fish were hitting anything with metallic green, black, and silver in it all fish on spoons size 28s. Deepest rigger was 57 with 4 of 6 fish hitting it. We ended up losing a screamer either a big king or one big ass lake trout. More than likely was a king with the way it ripped off line. Things couldnt get any better when half way home we pulled to the side of the parkway with a flat tire. Id like to thank captain Chris of U Betcha charters who let my dad and I on his new 10 meter Trojan out of Oak Orchard. Boat wasnt in the water but what a sweet rig. A huge step up from a 21 foot penn yan haha. What a rig. Hope to see you down there again soon.
  8. When the water is cold like its is now we usually will torpedo the fish back. But when we get into the summer months and the surface temp is much warmer we lay the fish in the water facing into the current of the boat.

  12. Topeye hi cdq's dad been fishing loc for yrs. good choice for ports. I fish out of Wilson during spring loc. find myself fishing down at the bar / Wilson/ olcott. I agree with what Tim said. Good advise! I like to play the wind to my advantage sometimes dictates witch way I go out of port. Plus the weather from day before can move fish. As far as # of rods lots of times can't keep six in the water when the kings there. I keep it simple and tight can turn easier and avoid traffic stay north of the fleet. Lots of yrs. never fish less then 60ft. Good luck.
  13. Got the Lake Ontario slam!!!!! Nice job
  14. Got the boat out of the barn about 2 weeks ago and got almost everything done. She will be in the water at Wilson in 11 days and counting for the LOC Spring derby. I dont think we will be having the bang up spring like we had last year boating up to 130 fish in only 6 days of fishing. Is anyone going to be up there for the Tourney?? Also I think I may not fish my spoon that caught most of our fish last Spring its just a little beat up Good luck and tight lines
