Went out of Sandy creek today. Went 2-4 with a nice 8-10 pound football Brown. Nice buck male. Trolling between the mouth and the pump house. Weather reports were calling for light winds out of the south/south west which then turned east. My dad and I were frustrated with that but whatever. For 2 hours of fishing it was a nice day.

Okay no you cant eat them haha. They are a living organism that look like sea weed just a more brown color. They came into the great lakes on in coming sea vessels. They are an invader. They stick to your monofilament line. They start right around when the thermal cline sets into the lake so around the mid to end of June, and dont end until the water starts getting cold again. Really the only way to avoid them is running cooper and wire lines. Sometimes you get them in small globs sometimes you get them in globs where you cant reel your line. Running 25 or 30 lbs test mono will also do the trick but will still get them on there occasionally. They are a pain in the butt. But what are you gonna do they are here to stay until we can find a way to get rid of them.

Took our 14ft Sylvan out this morning. We went 1 for 4 in 3 hours of fishing. Not all that bad. There were some rollers out on the lake. Trolling in 10 feet of water long lining anywhere from 60 to 150 feet behind the boat. All in all good day. It was nice to land our first fish of the 2013 trolling season.

Sliders on your riggers question.
cdq replied to BALLS DEEP's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I've run both fixed and free sliders for fixed I use adalines a little u shaped plastic pc. That works well also roamer makes one called a liberator I think . 28s and 4ds work well on fixed sliders . Sometimes small fish won't release the liberator not big deal good luck! Cdq's dad. -

Setup/ Leadcore questions

Start with two riggers/ two diver rods maybe run inline planer. Two riggers plenty to start with nice to keep middle boat open. I agree sit in your boat eye and measure things up. I to lov riggin boats. Done 4 in 30+ yr. span. Swivel seats must both sides. Hav those current on my boat gives me room for large cooler that's two more seats and place for gear till we catch fish if we keep any. Take your time everything people said has been good advice. Good luck! Cdq's dad. -
I agree got to go quality and cross loc stood bac the boat lookin at half swivel watched big steelie twist one in two while in the air. Double bac means lettin s/doc out to quick line and terminal tackle sink faster. Get hung up on one another sometimes so suttle u don't know it. I don't run under 30# rated swivel . Good luck! Cdq's dad.

Tlr hi cdq's dad started fishin big O in 14 footer in 1980 moved up to 16 now 22 penn yan if u got the vehicle to tow go glass and go 20 makes big difference. Lady O can make u feel pretty small. Loved my 16 sylvan fished big. Nothin like the wt. u get with glass and the way it cuts waves. Freeboard is important. Plus semi v displacement hull for stability . Do some hull research and beam (width) always good friend. Try sticking with closed bow if possible. Cuddys Evan small great for gear stayin dryer warmer/ safer. Hope I helped good luck!

Stan hi cdqs dad I've been running wire on slide divers over six yrs. works very well run 45ft of 45lb mono then barrel swivel then 8ft. 20lb. Floro snap then lure. Now u can run slide dive anywhere on 45lb. Line. I use okuma wire roller rod. Whole system works very smooth. Caught many big kings. First one yrs ago. 28lbs. Lov the rig. Steelhead like it to. I run clear slide divers. When diver releases runs down to barrel swivel and stops. I run slide divers both sides boat. When other boats are catchin fish on dipseys I move slide dive closer to lure. Normally 25 ft away for spoons good start point. Spin doctors normal recommended lengths . Very easy to trip diver for rerig. Tracs and runs well in rough seas. High ratio fish landed after hook up. I run pc. Plastic tubing on mono instead of spring that comes with diver. Spring works just as well to. Plus run rubber band half hitch to wire other end to reel handle can set drag little lighter #30 rubber bands . Good luck!

Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name:Collin Quinter ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):July 13th Time on Water:6am to 12 pm Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction:none Waves: none Surface Temp: 74 Location: Pump house and Devils nose LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 8 Total Boated:5 Species Breakdown:Kings, Steelhead, Laker Hot Lure: Purple mag DW Trolling Speed: 2.5 Down Speed: ? wasnt reading Boat Depth: 80-260ft Lure Depth: 53-100 ft down ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS I called up my buddy last night asking him if he wants to go out with my dad and I. He said yes and he has never fished for these types of fish before. Well we started out off the nose at around 170 FOW we picked up a fish and got off. Then i saw the purple dreamweaver rod come up and start screaming line i grabed that that rod and i wanted to pass it off to my buddy but i didnt want to because it was a big fish and i didnt want him to lose confidence if he had lost the fish. But I ended up boating my biggest king ever on the boat 25+ pounder i couldnt even hold the thing up for a picture . When we released that fish my dads rod on his side went off and my buddy ended up grabing that rod he ened up landing his first king ever a 16-18lbs king . Then i boated another king. We were hearing a lot of radio traffic of people catching a lot of fish in the 130 to 100 ft range so we followed that and we ended pulling in there at the wrong time that fishing started to die off around 9:30-10 oclock but we ended up getting my buddy with his first steelhead and Laker though . ====================
