If you let folks know a day or two before you arrive at either I’m sure you could get some good intel. Let us know where or when you’re heading up.
All good info, nice to see people stepping up. Mostly Sandy guys so far but if you pick Olcott I would definitely tail one of the charter boats. Don’t get within a quarter mile of them but to not follow their lead without other intel would be silly.
Spread your spread a little. Run lures that aren’t particularly speed sensitive.
Been an interesting spring, location has been everything. Feast or famine. Don’t waste time in cold clear water.
Good news is two years ago the amount of skippy kings was insane. Felt bad pulling riggers and dipsy rods with dead skips on them. Now those same skips are 10-18 lbs and they’re out there in numbers. Never seen this kind of numbers of quality fish. Not trophies but still fun to catch. So weird to be fishing deeper than 100 foot of water in April or May, not complaining.
Out again this morning, rainy but calm.
Decent temp was 250 -350. One of those days where we dropped more than we landed but still a great day. Lakerunner who was fishing similar water crushed it including 3 Atlantics.
Can’t remember fishing water this deep so early in the year but not complaining.
It was, and fought just like they do. Lots of big jumps and swam away clean. Was happy to see that. Our big king swam away clean as well. We weren’t sure if we should weigh it in or not and chose not to. As of what’s reported at 5pm on the LOC website that might have been a mistake lol.
Out with Legacy at 6am. Started in 10 feet of water but it was clear and 44 degrees. Picked up three or four small browns but it was obvious that the inside didn’t look like it was worth fishing in.
Slid north and temp started going up. Hit 125 feet and it was game on. 150 to 300 feet held 47 to 48 degree water. Even down 60 it was warmer than the inside water. Over 25 king bites, some lakers and a quality Atlantic. Most kings 12-15 lbs, our biggest was just over 22. Fish wanted bright colored spoons but our biggest kings came on paddles pulling meat.
With the breasts we cut cross grain medallions and marinate and grill.
I also slice with grain and make jerky, very good.
if he doesn’t respond to your thread pm Kevin Legg on the site. Guy knows what to do with all of it. Good luck.
