  1. WOW. Now that's a set of horns!! You guys never sees to amaze me!! Just about the time you think it coming to the end, someone else posts an incredible brute of a deer!! Congrats my friend that's a slammer!! I believe in thing like you said, my dad was with his nephew tonight. I'm telling you things happen for a reason. Just like I took my brothers knife along, why I have my own, but he knew I was going to need it, to boost my ass to get out there, your dad was going to put a buck of a life time in front of him so he had to use that gun, and it worked!!
  2. I can relate to that guys, especially if it were March LOL. Maybe no hard freeze this year, if it does get bitter cold there are lakes and dams that could freeze solid, that's no joke, I've never in all my put togethers saw the water table so low. The dam by me just has a river flowing through it. It's bad down here, if we get no snow or it doesn't rain we are in trouble.
  3. LOL that worked!!!
  4. That Smith Kid, nice ride certainly set up to fish any species you want. Your boat will handle Lady'O very nice!! PAP
  5. Do you have the cable locks for them, my brother in law has those cables on all his camera's the cable is pretty heavy also, you would need a good cutter of some sort to get these off??
  6. Wow that's a beautiful deer taken by a beautiful rifle, the pre 64's are in a breed of there own DJ. My brother had one in a 308, that gun never returned when his house got robbed, your twins are to precious, seeing them working the meat, reminds me of my twins, when they were that age I was floored by the way they dove into it. It didn't matter to them!! Keep that gun oiled up and Congrats to your kill, definitely is a beautiful deer. Way to keep at it!! Definitely a NY buck man you guys got nice deer!! PAP!!!
  7. Wow this has been a ride guys, thanks again. EsoxAC3, this was a squirrelly season for sure, 3 miles up the road they had 6" of snow, today it's 51* crazy, where by this weekend they wants snow flurries down here. Skipper my rifle is the first time since since it was put on the back burner, General Whelen brought this wild cat cartridge to life. Remington reintroduce the 35 Whelen in a pump and a bolt action, in 1987 I bought it, that rifle has done me right from beginning to now. Hornady made a 35cal 200gr. Pill for the 350 Remington mag. I think we found that reloader 13 or15 I can't remember but I do remember it was 57 grains with the rem. mag primers we could skip them through the chronograph 2675fps and shot like on a quarter size pattern, I tried them out and was blown away with the power and the performance of the Hornady bullet, my cousin who bought one like me we quit. In the beginning they had us shooting factory loads that didn't work, they punched a hole in one side and out the other, we knew we had to do better. There was no brass to load our own, so we bought two boxes of 30/06 shells and shot them out our Whelens they form fitted themselves, we were on the right track. Since the gun gained popularity you can find anything for them now, but we have better, and a long time before. I have never lost a deer with this gun to date!!! One other thing is the Whelen is a 30/06 shell blown out to 35 cal. With a little more bust.LOL. Thanks again guys really appreciate the ðŸ‘ ðŸ‘ âœŒï¸ This thread sure has been one hell of a eye opener, the size of the deer you guys kill up there is off the charts!! And the sportsmanship showed here is just short of amazing. I'll follow along till it's all over!! Legacy has done it again!!!
  8. Man your right about those damn things, I believe that I could of that a truckload of turkeys!! They were everywhere!!!
  9. Hi guys, thanks for all the congrats, litterly got a little chocked up!! Well after getting home, dragging this "stud" LOL. I finished doing a better gut job and I hosed him out I was done!! I went to the dollar general and got 3-30# bags of ice and I poured the chest cavity and the stomach area full, I left the bags whole and the same for the hinde, so at 6:00am I got up to a sore as hell body, by 9:30am I was ready to go, it went hard but 3 t shirts later "sweated" soaked but I got him done at a little after 1:30 today. I have a hook on the ceiling that I put a rope block and the tri-angle thing with angles upward, I needed to get him skun up past the first joint so I could get him off the ground. I did it, and I owe it to you guys to give me the drive and my father in law for helping me in the field. Here some pics. it's hard to work and get pics. As you go but I wanted to show you guys I did it. I've been on a mental high all day, now it's time for a water, used to be beer, but I can't on account of my meds, Thanks you!!! PAP? Sorry some came out upside down, the other pics. Were from other hunts but the last one was the last buck I shot before my brother passed away from cancer, the shyty pic I took doesn't do it any justice, I tried!!!
  10. Wow that sounds impressive, I shot deer at 200 with my muzzy,I forget what it's called it has the thumb hole and the primer pushes in and a round disc cover the primer. Yours sounds like the elite of the elite muzzy. Good talking to ya but I gotta get my deer quartered up and in the fridge!!
  11. Well after 8 years I finally got the courage up to go hunting, grabbed my trusty 35 Whelen, it was pouring my brother in law sent me to a place he hunts. I saw a high y on one side and a 12" spike on the other well left him walk when I see another head coming up the hill, this one even worse a knob on one side and a busted of horn on the other, that was it till 4:05 pm I see this one has points to be legal but the fog made it tough, the higher I turned the scope up the worse the view got and now it looks like he's going back into the woods after 8 years I figured if he walks to the crotch of that tree I'm going to shoot as soon as brown came into the scope I touched her off, the Whelen has spoken!! I see him sit on his ass then fall over. YES!! I was really proud of myself. I was hoping I could drag this guy, not because it was a big one, I didn't know if I could physically drag him. Well I gutted him out it was a little basket 6 pointer, not the big 10's my brother in law says are up there. I put a ratchet strap on the back of the truck, wrapped the strap around the horns and cranked him up past the front legs then I could pull him the rest of the way!! YAHOO he's loaded tagged and I'm home bound. I'll add pics later
  12. Thanks for the prompt service!! I don't think these releases ever saw the water!! Thanks JRS.
  13. I have to agree with eating both the heart and liver. My dad said in the winter if the deer came off the mountain we didn't eat the livers, but the corn and farmland deer we ate both. Dad said if their eating mountain laurels not to eat the organ meats or don't even shoot any off the mountain? Why we asked, mountain laurel is poisonous to humans and deer don't have gallbladders so it doesn't kill them but to a person that's bad news. I don't know if that's the truth but we all went by the elders talk!!
  14. Justin that pill looks impressive, what type powder is the sr4759, looks like the same sabot, just the bullet itself is very different. If my memory serves me right isn't that a bulky powder to reduce power loads, if my memory serves me right I think I used the sr4759 in 45/70 hand loads. But I think sr is discontinued and followed up by the IMR? Don't quote me I could be and might be wrong, just that number jogs my memory. How did you come up with a load for a muzzle loader. I think it's a really course powder, kind of like triple 7 or this other powder the guys are talking about? Gotta hand it to ya your always 1 step ahead of the game!!
  15. Yea I hear ya on the Bomb.comm only difference is the smell of the bombs that tend to come out, well, nowhere!! My 12 year olds tend to leave the scene!! LOL I love the heart, slice up the whole heart, 2-3 yellow sweet onions, in butter soon as the onions turn translucent, add 1/2 can of beer simmer down till like a gravy serve, while I drink the other half of the beer.
  16. I would suspect nothing as the hawk has a screen and the tablet would be the ST screen. I would doubt that wasn't a question asked before going through with this?? Just my $.02.
  17. OOYAA the 10 bore, I have one in a single pipe, what a ass kicking bloody nose giving peice of artillery!! I think they have the same punch as the 458 mag. The only way I can shoot that gun accurately is to hunt with it. If you want to target shoot or pattern the gun, the anticipation gets you every time. LOL
  18. Man those are some real beefy eyes. You have my congrats!!
  19. Governor Wolf just signed the bill a few days ago, from what I've read and understand, is the semi gives a quicker follow up shot, and get this!! Only Pa. could come up with this piss poor excuse for a pansy ass, the semi allows younger or older folks to use 30cal. Rifles because the reduced recoil of the gas operated semi's. I learned to hunt with the most dangerous rifle if your a kid, my dads modle 94 Winchester. I only ever put 3 shells in at a time, because we used to put on little chases and every time you had to unload this damn gun I was nervous. After I turned 16 I was always a chaser and I'd get the thickest on your hands and knees part of every chase, I would always see the bucks but my pee shooter never made it to the deer. Well I ****ed and complained, that year Santa brought me a 45/70 for Christmas. If they were within 100 yards it was history in the making. Let the concrete kids touch that puppy off with 3 more behind it!! Lol.
  20. Damn guy that's a nice opening thread!! Excellent looking background, I haven't hunted in snow since I shot one of the biggest 8 point with the flintlock, that background reminded me of that night. Needless to say the Crown Royal was flowing that night!! Congrats my friend, you deserve that deer.
  21. Now stop it, springs a long ways away yet. But I will say we went out of Port Clinton for 5 years. I will say that area was the closest fishing I ever had to our Canadian trips in the early 80's. The eyes are much bigger than the Canadian fish, and I will say it was the closest thing to the fast and furious fishing that Canada offers. We left the dock at 6:00am and were back at 11:30am with a 6 man ticket. It was just awesome!!
  22. That's a beautiful eye!!, oh ya your boat is a beauty also.
  23. Holy shyt, I see guys on the state game lands that look like they just got done shooting a scene for Rambo!! Lord only knows what those jackass folks will do. I don't understand our game commission? For years they've been threatening us to go to buckshot guns now semi auto's. Soon I'm going to just fish, from my boat!!
  24. I'm hoping the semi rifles are like the smaller arms like the AR's for predetor hunting, last night I couldn't find anything about it in the Pa. Rule books so it's easier to just go on line, there's lots of info, but what's the correct rule, I'm one that doesn't believe everything I read so still in limbo.
