On a positive note the salt does save the stringers and ect. where the raw water rots them to shyt. A 1990 repowered, with a 2006 with only 200hrs good in your favor!!! I would be willing to give an outboard a thought, but an inboard not this dude, unless a whole new powerplant was sitting in the hole. There's too many fresh water boats out there just about giving them away to think of a mister salty!! Just look on this board alone. Over and Out with this Topic, see ya parts store LOL.

Hey Lake88 I ain't gonna jump on your shyt, yes the newer outboards salt water motors are lined with Teflon and can be washed out very easily. Salt and cast iron don't go well together, kind of like a #10 screw and aluminum. I know your a very intelligent man, and a e'Fin survey, survey, survey wouldn't. have detected this totally rotted motor. Went down to our local dealer and Jim was working on a Mercruiser V6 he was putting heads on, so I asked what's going on here. Was a salt water boat that now is a lake boat, guy claimed he did the flush deal faithfully and run it off the muffs at home. Here we go the salt ate the fins off the water pump enough water coming into the thermostat and the sender so the motor overheated warped the heads, beyond the planer trick, a $50.00 water pump, ended up $1300.00 for new heads, water pump plus the gaskets you know we're I'm going with this!! If your going to say buying a mister salty isn't that risky then so be it. Me I'm going to say the truth of the matter even if it a good price. Somewhere down the line it's gonna bite you in the ass. There isn't one person I know that bought a salt boat, saying they'll ever do it again. They'll tell ya DON'T do it!! You will regret it trust me. No hard feelings here L88 your freind Pap!!!

From my understanding there's no easy fix, that's why we put kicker motors on to troll, if your going to use them to troll the only thing I would suggest is to troll with one battery until it will no longer perform well. Then double the time. If you use the motor as a means to stay along a break or weeds they'll last a long time. I don't know how long the batteries will last on a constant troll?

Hmm, I know there are some onboard charging systems but I'm not fully informed wth there function, I know my uncle has them on his boat, but I'm pretty sure they charge his deep cycles from a 110V source. but you might have to get a Perko switch with B1-B2-All so you can start on your starting batt. Then troll with BAT.2. I'll look into the differant chargers.

Yes you will need the group 27's, the 24's will be two small. Here's the kicker ( I owned and operated a starter & alternators shop, and sold litterly thousands of batteries) if you use the alternator to charge up your strictly deep cycle batters they are designed to discharge slowly and they are to be charged slowly, if you ever noticed on certain battery chargers they have a 2amp charging spot then they have a deep cycle selection. Long story short is the deep cycle battery will begin to get a memory, slow discharge fast charge back, soon you will notice the batteries aren't lasting as long. They will start to discharge faster and faster till one day they won't be any good at all. Don't ask me why its something in the surface charge and the alteration of how the batteries were meant to be charged, and a alternators blows back 14 volts at way to high of amperage. I have the Optimax yellow top to run all my electronics, and my alternator charges two group 27's one is a strictly starting bat. The other is a start/ deep cycle that I run my riggers. With the Perko selecter I charge my main then if my rigger battery goes down below 10v with the motor off I select both and they become charged equally. Hope this helps!!

If you can't locate one look into making it your self. Google fishing lure making supplies. Mud hole is one there are lots of places, but there's like 3-4 major ones, even mom & pop shops carry it or they can order it for you. There was a guy on here that sells pre-cut tape for spoons, Dodgers, spinnys. I'm going to look him up as he has the fireworks scene for Dodgers. When I find him I'll give you a heads up. Maybe others will chime in here as to the other main fishing lure supplies, I just can't remember as of now.

Oneida is not a deep lake, find weeds the eyes will seek shelter from the sun stay back from the weeds and pitch the Rapala Jigging Rap to the edge of the weeds and pop the rap back to ya. Troll real slow along the the front edge of the grass, cover turf, they usually hit the rap on the down fall so watch your line anything looks out of the norm, set the hook. We spent a week on Oneida and this theory worked good for us. Good luck guys!!!

Xxx replied to Todd in NY's topic in Boats for Sale
Hey Todd I Had the same platform basically, mine was a troller, made in Erie it was 1988 with the 88SPL V4, those motors are bullet proof and I also have the same kicker. Boat looked identical but in fiberglass, these boats handle big water quite well. That boat I wish I never sold it, it gave year after year solid rock hit key go fishing as long as I had it.15 great years of perfect performance. That V4 motor was the best motor I ever owned!! Good luck with your sale!! -
My dad was always one of those people who, we don't wast anything, well one day we thought he had the mother walleye on only to be disapointed by a sheep head. The damn thing died on the boat thinking we could revive it in the livewells. Well I filleted it soaked it in milk dad did his thing with lemon, pepper, salt, butter and on the grill it went, well it wasn't the best, if you like really strong fish tasting fish then you'll like it. Personally I think they suck!!! Oh we thought it would be good, because the meat turned snow white. 👎👎

Work2fish, plugged in meaning they could hook to a computer to analyze the motor? For all the differant pressures? That would have found differant pressures in the heads as the valve seats started to deteriorate which would have a showed up in compression loss in cylinder XYZ!! I would have pretty good faith in that, I would insist on pulling the lower unit and new water pump installed, plus at the dealer you'll get a warranty of some sort
