Experienced mechanics who can work on advance timing issue/points distributor
Xxx replied to Gill-T's topic in This Old Boat
Natually timing a motor requires a light, like Nautime said and he also mentioned a very good point, the condenser, yes I had one of those playing games till I just replaced that good to again, try that. -
LMAO, IF you come up again!!! LOL

I'd say the mechanical advance isn't working, take the cap off and spray a good penetrating fluid under the points plate. Or time the engine at 650/700rpm that keeps the advance out of the pic. The rev up the motor it should show an advance if not the maybe the abvance dogs are fprusred or the springs are weak. Try that first before you take it to thr dealer. They just want to line their pants pockets -
I zip tie those green glow sticks. You can buy them at dollar tree or any of those type stores, just the dollar tree has the best ones, there're really bright and last long 6-8hrs.

Welcome aboard sea diver, lots of guys looking for a partner. Bring your boat north, I know it's a long haul. What type do you have, would you be able to use it in the north country? Best of luck with a ride!!

Take two pieces if wood like 1x4 cut it like 3 1/2" sandwich the lure between the wood and squeeze it together in a vice. If the crease is still there lightly tap on the crease with a flat headed hammer, should come out good as used LOL. Seriously that's an easy fix. Good luck, yes I cherish all my 44's I tell the guys don't even think about it!! LOL

Hey thanks for the info guys, I was just going to bring this topic up again, but you guys beat me to it. You must have been reading my mind. The more I look into these divers the more I like them. I have two I bought last year at Fat Nancy's rigged them up but have yet to use them, that's going to change very shortly!!

That's what I was saying earlier it depends on the wind direction, those places are on the north shores, if the wind is coming out of the south/west you'll be alright there, you could put in at Henderson Bay we've had good bass fishing and pike fishing, I know guys were getting nice brownies but that was earlier in the season, or Sackets harbor they are on the opposite side, lots of possibilities. Buy a map of the northern part of LakeO then you can decide on what you want to do, just a suggestion.

Depending on the direction of the wind, and being that you are able to trailer there are many bays on the lake that would provide you shelter from the wind.

I had one on my other boat 18ft Sea Ray with a I/O with 3.0L the plate got me down to under 1.5mph used it for years. Then one spring I was getting her ready to head north when I noticed oil coming out the prop seal, no problem I'll just replace the seal, probably old and it's just time. While taking the prop off I noticed a lot of play in the out put shaft. I asked the Merc. Dealer we use and the first thing he asked was I using a troll plate:::"uuh ya" well now you need to replace the thrust washers and the seal, you got to be F#¥€~ kidding me. He said with the troll plate pushes back on the prop causing back pressure and that causes the washers to wear and over time this is the out come. Lesson learned, now I do a lot of trolling and had that boat for years. I now have a kicker on my 22fter. I would think with a 5.7 and a bigger prop the force on the washers would be even greater. Last year I blew my lower unit, due to someone rebuilt the original outdrive on my boat and they forgot to shim the gears on the top shaft and it ate the gears up, so I rebuilt the whole unit buy the book, it took me muchoo hrs and a lot of $$ in the special tooling you need, I didn't have the $1,800.00 for a new one, I have about $900.00 in it and it cost me the rest of the season.

I totally agree with you LakeB88 I went pro for the very same reason, but it shouldn't be considered a donation it should be mandatory to get into differant areas of the site. Maybe I'm wrong, why should a proud member have the same access to the site as a Pro Member. It would push a lot $20's into the LOU kitty, so Chad can keep up with this great site, and even make some money for all his efforts?

I often scratch my head about being a "pro" member we get no more privledges than Joe Blow from Idaho, unless it's in the pro member section, I can count on 1 hand the amount of times that happened. It was mentioned that some posted a sale item in the pro area, to move it to the general page more people will see it?? I think if you spend the $20.00 you should have more privledges than a "approved poster" don't get me wrong I love this site, but I backed out of the fishing part of it. I enjoy helping those with electrical problems with there boat or just general questions about boat problems. There's only a few guys that fish the same area and we PM each other, not for secrets, but for the very same reason we are posting right here.

Thanks, I kinda thought this is to much rigging to taking these on & off. I'll look at that vid. Thanks again for the vid. Pap.

So I guess you let out just say 150ft then the amount of line to achieve the desired depth, when fish hits you can reel fish to the net instead of dealing with the fluro leader still 10ft away? Is this the benefit of the slide diver?
