Mr clean's Fair Haven Report
Xxx replied to mrclean's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
As stated above you could be very efficient if by yourself you can run 3 rods. You would need four rod holders and you wouldn't need the expensive metal type for Browns but I would at least run metal ones I forget the name there like $40.00, that's what I run on my boat, and have had kings pulling like a mule on them, anyway invest in inline planer boards that way you could run 1 pole in shallow and flat line the other on the inside and use the other board to run 1 lure out and deeper, that's your 3 poles, if the inside poles are getting all the action and nothing on the outside pull that outside one and run a "shoot rod" strait out the back. On a good day you will be more busy than a 3 armed wall paper hanger.LOL Good luck!!!! -
Thanks guys, I "most"-always try to help others no matter what the situation is, and these guys are doing just that, the airbrush guys are extremely talented, just like last year Les mads me his version of flys to run behind a dodger. Someone (hack, cough, spit) asked Brian what exactly are we getting, from my understanding it was just going to be the lure behind the cow bells. Well "one" guy not me this time asked if he could make the hole shyt mess, so he contacted someone and was able to make the bells so Brian has to match the flys to the colors of the bells to be fished at different depth. All this stuff is going on let's say behind closed doors, basically not noticed to most of the members and nonmember, so those guys that interact with the board knows what's going on and not all but a high percentage of guys have no idea how much time and patience and don't forget the money they lay out before 1 of their products is sold!! So get involved a little more than just lurking around, so we can keep these guys happy with (us) so they feel like they accomplished something to give them the incentive to keep us well stocked with the best of the best. Yes we will have to purchase our terminal tackle outside the box and that's ok! I'm pretty sure Blood Run carries quality swiveles and Duo locks. That's not taking bread or butter off our lure makers tables!! Keep up the great job by all those who partisapate in any form of lure making or anything that has to do with boat fishing or bank fishing.

Shinintimes informed me he was going up to Chaumont Bay for perch through the ice, they did rather well, and although I've never met the man other than LOU and LEU he offered me some of his catch. We made arrangements to meet on a exit off the highway he uses on his way home from work. We came up with a time and place through a few phone calls and it all came together at perfect timing, to bad we didn't get to talk more but it was Friday and he needed to get his guys home from work. I wasn't expecting as much as he offered and they were all cleaned to perfection!! This would be the first time my daughters ever had perch, well they ate till they were round full even my wife and father-in-law came over and we had a Chaumont Bay perch fish fry, none of this would have never happened if it wasn't for LOU&LEU and the great folks that made it this way. Shinintimes my family and I thank you for you thoughtfulness. This is the proof in the pudding

Thanks for the kind words guys, I just thought that we as a group should give a big THANKS to the guys that went the extra mile to help us fisherman/ladies out. My way of thinking is. being in buisnes for myself for 22 years, we as a auto electric rebuilders try to keep the people from using the big box stores, so I have a pretty good idea what these guys are going through. Some of the guys are in this as a income for their family and some do it as a side job, some do it for fun either way, it's still benefits those that belong to LOU, and those guys deserve credit where credit is due. Just a for instance, got a PM that power dive's web will have his walleye spoons on line come Monday. I met shintimes for the first time today. I met him on his way home with a bag of Chaumont Bay perch fillets. To bad we didn't get to talk much as he needed to get his guys home. It's beer thirty on a Friday. I can't wait to make them. This is why this is the greatest site along with our brother site LEU.

I just want to take a minute to thank all those folks that make and sell there products right here on L.O.U. When I first joined LOU, I bought what I thought would work to catch fish on LakeO, yes Rapala lures will catch fish, along with Michigan Stingers but most will agree their paint is not top shelf to say the least, and there are other spoon company's that are good and the Charter guys have brought some light to those that are successful!! What I'm saying is the guys that went the extra mile to make lures that work on LakeO and will work most anywhere!!! I'm not going to mention names only because I don't want to miss someone and that just wouldn't be right. Over the years my tackle box has gone from big box store lures that I struggled with to lures that are made by Fisherman For Fisherman/ladies that have made a lot of us more productive fisherman. I would like to personally thank those guys for bringing their grandfathers old machines out of the corner and update them to produce products that just plain work, the airbrush guys that are just amazing, because they are fisherman so they know what works. We have folks on here that produce products from rigger weights to the tackle box. Let's not forget our Sponsors with their great line of products. So let's keep these guys busy so wether your a weekend fisherman or a tournament fisherman we all have the best products to work with, and keep the $$$ in the hands of those that care about our sport. Thanks guys for all your long hours and hard work to make this sport even more enjoyable if that's even possible!!! PAP

I remember about 10 years ago we had a early spring and most guys were in the water with their I/O and the outboards with their canopies up and it snowed over a foot of that heavy wet stuff and a boat load of canopies got smashed down and the bars all twisted up, I just had to shovel the better than knee high snow out of the boat. I had a 18'er center console and I didn't have the canopy up yet. Most all boats had significant damage, unless you had a hardtop. Just a friendly reminder about the early springs. -
ISO record tiger in Otisco...

Same here Griz, although I do have a 12 3/4# walleye and its 33 5/8"s long, hanging on the wall, That was 30 years ago, I didn't even think about a replica, at that moment I just wanted a wet shirt to wrap it in and haul ass back to camp. I was 7 miles away from the camp, running wide open with a 15hp on a 14ft aluminum boat with dad and our gear. If I catch a 30# plus laker with Brian's gear he's making I will do a replica!! For sure. I hunt and eat wild game and I fish and eat fish but a 25-30 year old fish is ridiculous to kill just to say "luck what I found"!!! -
Yes Chase that stuff works wonders, I got a Sea Ray Seville given to me, I shoveled 2ft of snow out and fixed it up, but the block was cracked I had a machine shop do a internal pressure test on the block and it passed. The block was pushed out a good 1/2" I ground the metal all around the crack and I filled the crack with JB weld then went over the whole area with marine RX let harden put the motor back together with new stuff bearings rings ect had the head redone long story short I know that boat still runs to this day. The guy I sold it to is a hard core water ski dude I always see him going towards our local lake. That shyt works wonders, it will expand and contract with the metal, I think that's why it works so good!!

Yea, I could say that!! LOL I worked for a custom corvette shop. I learned a lot from Gary, he showed me a lot of tricks to the trade. I used the paste theory to put new ribs on the bottom for a guy around home, he ripped the bottom ribs off the boat loading it on a trailer, that was a real prodject. You are a wealth of info also 2lbperch!! Can't wait till the board starts to get moving with posts this is the slowest I ever saw it. Good luck this spring, can't get enough, going up for brown trout soon!!

Just my 2 cents, when you grind or sand the fiberglass save the white dust, this makes for excellent fixing cracks or holes, mix the powder with your resin and hardener so it mixes like a paste. We used 2" masking tape, make a stop on one side or the other pour the mixture in then tape the opposite side try to get the side you see as level as you can. This is basically the same as cutting the hairs off a sheet of glass. We used this to fill air pockets that form in the resin after it sets up. Using the plywood glued and screwed together is definatly stronger then a single or double 2X6 or 8. For instance the stringers on my house are 28foot they consist of a 2X4 on the bottom with a 1/2" groove routerd out and a 9" wide piece of plywood in the center and a 2X4 on the top. My brother who was a boss and he claimed they are twice as strong a 2X12 and longer than any board out there. Now back to your prodject, if you don't want the resin to run, like if your working on the sides use the tape to make the resin stop running down. After its dry the tape will peel off. Don't use the blue tape, use the tan looking masking tape. Hope this helps you out. PAP.

I worked for a guy that did body work on corvettes, we used those red heat lamp bulbs in the metal hoods with clamps on or we made things for the lights to clamp to cement blocks, clamp on in the sides where the holes are or just make T's out of scrap pieces of wood laying around and screw them down so they don't fall over
-
Ha ha ya me also, my kicker handle fell forward and caught the corner of the boat, soon it was not doing what the steering wheel said it should. So I climbed out on the swim platform and I dropped the piece off the main. I guarantee one thing I will have a swim noodle on each piece and a test done in the swimming pool before I go on the water this year!! I found a place where you can just buy the piece you need and parts for the easy steer. I also bought the swivel part for one end it was very sloppy.
-
Nice Tim, if I ever had to do it over that's the boat I would choose! I looked at a few in the early 90's but they were soft tops, which is what I have now on a Sea Ray. If I won the lottery it would be Hewes Craft or a King Fisher with 2 of the new Evinrude 4 strokers!! Keep dreaming says my wife, OOO YAA!!!

Best fish ever
Xxx replied to whaler1's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
That's awesome rolmops, I have a similar memory, but I was lucky enough dad had a hook for me, just the hook no leader, my line was butcher twine and a green cut Apple stick, I caught my first trout in a stream that ran through the cow pasture. I saw the fish but I had to wait till the season opened. -
Yea guys I bought a boat for parts mainly the lower unit, as I knew the lower unit was rebuilt by our local marinia, who is also the merc. Dealer and parts for Mercrusier, and the hub for the service parts for NE. PA. I pulled the motor which was rebuilt and the bell houseing and the steering and the inner and outer housing, and the gimbal houseings now I'm in the process of installing a new/used almost never used lower shift cable. This boat, it's a damn shame all the money this guy sank into this boat, then just left it go to hell. Rebuilt 350, rebuilt lower unit which is what I used in the fall. I'm going to use the lower shift cable, that's new. Probably by the end of the week I'll be able to do a shake down run on our local lake Beltzville. Will report in when mission complete. Thanks guys PAP.

Thinking about a new fish finder, any info
Xxx replied to hookedupf7's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I have the lowrance elite 7 HDI, late last year I got a old fish hawk I guess it's just the X4 only speed of the ball & temp. The guy was going to junk it, it turns on by its own, so it drained his batteries down to nothing, so I put cigarette plug on and just unplug it when finished, anyway I didn't have any interference problems. I know other guys that have the HDS7's touch screens and the HDS8's and they have the red screen XD4's I didn't hear Lonnie or Scott complaining. Hope this helps. PAP. -
Wow that's amazing Larry, got give credit where credit is due, the guys work like dogs. I remember years back up in Canada we were told about a lake a mile off the beaten path, so we carried a 4hp motor and a fiberglass canoe, holy cow man the bugs ate us alive and we switched off carrying the motor but still what a prodject then we went back for our poles and tackle, but it was worth it all we hammered the Northerns, not huge but a average size of 30-35". I couldn't do that today that's for sure

I use a caller FoxPro, Justin is 100% correct about the wind, you always want to be up wind, I also use a mouth call along with the caller, once I see it or think I see it I shut the caller off and go strictly mouth call. I use 100% skunk urine for a cover scent a Qtip and a close pin pinned to a branch over my head, works for me. My favorite time it hunt them is an hour before the sun rise just so you can make things out and a hour before dark and then from 9pm till we've had enough. I don't hunt them with more than a 10mph wind. No sense educating them any more than they are already. They make squeakers that are thumb operated to start with easy to use, I like the reed type that is fully in the mouth like a turkey mouth call, simply because I like to have both hand available. Good luck
