  1. X2 unless battery leads are in rough condition. If so I used Minn Kota trolling motor wires which are nice, the side by side terms. Make for easy wiring and the female end comes with a nice water proof cap/plug. I never priced the battery wires from cannon, but I liked the idea to be able to plug in like a light receptacle. Personal preferance for sure.
  2. First you need to catch one!! lol! Years ago we tried the old method in Canada by tying I bobber through the dorsal Finn on a walleye since they are school fish, well a day later there were no hooks around this fish so pulled in eye and released him, I guess he wasn't going to give up his siblings LOL better luck with the modern system. lol
  3. I would think that the winters up there take a toll on the population. After sledding up there for some years before the cost of fuel went through the roof, I have pics. Of me walking off the trails to relieve myself of liquids and stepping into waist high snow, and following deer down the trails until they turn to the deeper snow. I also saw piles of hay and other foods for the deer I thought that was pretty cool that the locals care that much for their whitetail's, and after this thread it all makes sense know. This year should be a lot easier on them even know this weather can change in hours, especially with the lakes having no ice. That's a recipe for feet of snow in a short period of time. I'll post any pics of my deer if I'm lucky enough to connect using my Flintlock. .
  4. I was never fortunate enough to purchase a turn key and go fishing boat. To be able to have the "size" boat I had to take a prodject boat. Plus I fixed a lot of boats for guys. I wish I knew about this site before I bought my boat, 22fter Sea Ray cuddy. Good luck once your done it will be better than new!!
  5. Just a little thought for your exterior work, when sanding good fiberglass save the dust, put in a clean container. When ready to fix the outside crack, cut out the bad area use masking tape as a guide as to where to cut. Sand each side, take the powder you saved the powder has all the same ingredients as the matting, mix the resin and hardener in the powder to a paste force it in crack with puddy knife, then feather it out to the sanded area, now take masking tape and put it over the area and shape under the tape, this will a smooth surface when hard just remove tape and fine tune with palm sander. I have used this theory to put the ribs back under boats. Learned this stuff while working for a guy that fixed smashed corvettes. He made a mint, the products aren't that expensive, it's kind of like electricity, everyone is afraid of it. Good luck be patient, we also used red heat bulbs to get heat in hard to get area.

  9. Well Grandpa, hope you can teach him your magic on SLR. Congrats my freind, what an early Christmas Gift!!!
  10. Thanks PD I will get the second one that hooks to the gun!!
  11. That's a good idea, the guy at the store was very knowledgeable and he set us up with water soluble paints, but maybe your idea might be better, I don't know? Well it's to late to change now but will keep in mind. Thanks for the input.
  12. Well I got her a Iwata eclipse, I bought the hose from the gun to the pump, but I'm going to put a regulator on my compresser and run a line to her paint station in the basement, all I have to do is remove a tile out of the drop ceiling and drop the hose down and attach the gun hose which I have all ready. She has mentioned that she hopes Santa brings her a air brush!!! I got a book on air brush basics, and a bunch of stencils to practice on. I hope she does good with it so she can do spoons and stuff for me LOL to tell ya the truth I kind of pushed this because the wife was a little Leary about this.LOL A present for the both of us!!!! OOh I forgot to mention that I got it at a craft store called Michael's they had a percentage of the whole store plus my wife mrs."coupon" had another coupon which brought the gun down to $109.00, but the following day they had a 40% sale on the tips and the hose and the paints along with other stuff that fell into the same category, so then she was a lot happier about it but I had to run and pick it up the next day. They had it all in a bag so all I had to do was pick it up!! Merry Christmas to all!!!! PAP
  13. Down here in PA. Our Flintlock season opens the day after Christmas Saturday, with our hare season in January but we only get a few days at that, bunny season goes into February for us also so if any thing should arise hopefully the PA. Guys keep this thread going. I must admit this was the best thread since I joined LOU. Congrats to all that partisapated and to those who don't approve of hunting thanks for keeping your thoughts to yourself!!! Great job well done by everyone!! PAP.
  14. Same here from our family to yours!!! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, I wish everyone good health and lots of screaming reels come spring!! PAP.
  15. X2, I bought them from cabelas, during there end of the boating sale. I mainly wanted that type for the kids so they don't get over heated in the summer months, I got 2 for $75 each, watch their web site from now till the new year, they have a lot of on line sales only.
  16. There are many different views and thoughts with deep divers on lead cores. A deep running lure will go deeper than say a spoon, but not anywhere near the the curve for long lining. I generally use a 50ft leader with my cores and use the 50ft leader as my "initial" calculation on the depth the lure will go and add the core depth in as well to my depth. This gets you close either way high/low. The best thing to do is run the calculated depth and see what the core-bait combo gives you, buy running them till they tick bottom at the speed you want to troll. I did this on our home lake where it is a sandy bottom and I wrote all the info down for my own reference. One day that's all I did and it seems that this theory works the best at 2mph. So to tweak it so to speak either slow down a little or speed up. I realize that on the LakeO' conditions aren't perfect to say the least like our home lake, so to say go 0.5mph faster will bring it up a foot would be asinine but a 1.0 mph increase will give results one way or another. This is just my thoughts with cores, I realize you don't need 50ft of leader to catch fish off of cores, but this is what a older gent who is very successful at our home lake told me, and the dive curve for 50ft for the deep diver is added to the core depth give or take.
  17. I think it would be a good thing!! If the Canadians were able to show some of there walleye gear to the guys in the USA. They were ahead of their time with walleye gear years back before the eyes were so sought after in the US. We always bought gear up there before getting to the lake that the float plane was on. There are so many little one man band stores up there and their products were handed down through the generations, so these are proven products or they would have gone to the way side long ago. As for getting it across the border via. Mail well that I don't know how that will pan out, especially with all this terrorist crap has sent the shipping costs through the roof!! Off the subject when I was way younger once you got to or above Maniwaki there was little English spoke, but I remember stopping at little restaurants that were loaded with fishing lures near the check out stations. They were in little packages like worm harnesses come in we loaded up with their lures and they for the most part out performed what we had in the US. Untill the jig head came to town. Hope this pans out for the both of us.
  18. Another word of caution about troll plates on a I/O is, it take time, but the plate holds back the water propelled by the prop, " naturally " thus puts back pressure on the prop. There is thrust washers that also act like shims which also remove the back lash which is critical. The constant pressure pushing the prop back makes for "slop" as it wears the shims, soon your seals start to leak from the play. The only way you would notice is if you noticed a puddle of oil where it sets while not in use, if your boat is in the slip you would never notice, untill the damage is done. Which isn't a cheap fix. I happen to know this first hand!!😠😱
  19. Correct. I wear one regardless, during that time period, untill the water reaches 65* on the surface. I bought 1 of those skinny ones sometimes I don't realize I have it on till I get hot then I remember I have it on. They are quite expensive, but really my kids got it for me on Father's Day, that should tell ya something, out there is someone that cares about you!! Wear it.
  20. How many points? It's like 10 on one side!!
  21. That sucks that you didn't get him on the other hand it made the other guy a happy man!! Holy shyt that's a slammer, what a buck to take with the muzzle loader, now that's out. I feel for ya dvdegeorge,
  22. Thanks for the tip that's $24 more for the flea market!!! LOL
  23. Hey congrats to the Bambi👠Soon you will have a hunting partner for life. We had twin girls that are going to be 11 in February, seems like we just brought them home. Time flies I wish you the best for your new family member and in health.
  24. Do you mean use just the rod and use a different reel, when you said can I use my DR rods to troll for eyes using planer boards. I use 4 of my DR. rods to run lead cores off the big boards
  25. Hopefully he stays a resident to your area, next year he will be a nice trophy. Thanks for sharing. PAP.
