Line Color
Xxx replied to Money Shot's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
For my leadcore I use big game very happy with it and it won't break the bank, I buy the 300 yard spools. They claim that strait mono has to much stretch if your fishing far out and down, this usually applies to salmon, laker ect. One question I ask myself what did dad use, I know he caught a pile of them, and these braids and super lines weren't available back then, hell, I remember when the first Spider wire came out. -
Line Color
Xxx replied to Money Shot's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Well as a walleye fisherman I use Power Pro in the 30# test as my main line, then I run a fluro. Leader. I use a rods length of fluro, now the last post I made about this I was told this was not right and I was giving out bad info, in HIS opinion, where a fellow eye fisherman who has his own charter business agreed with me. I was told I was wasting fluro tippet. I use the fluro line not the 100% fluro which is quite exspensive. I use the Seaguar in the yellow and blue box, if you use fluro leader it really doesn't matter what color main line you use because the fluro leader is 99.9% invisible . I hope this sheds some insight on your question!!! -

If it's a points distributor, check the timing at 700 rpm should be at 8*BTDC and to check the advance it should advance with more rpm up to 26* at 3000 rpm. Take cap off and make sure there is no play in the distributor shaft, meaning back and forth not up and down, look at cap make sure the rotor isn't scrubbing against the cap contacts. Will look shiny or smeared from the rotor cap against the cap if all checks out I had a coil go bad on me would run but act kind of like yours. I was told to use a Bosh brand coil, not a aftermarket such a a high fire or other brands. Good luck if you need specs I have a Seloc manual, years 64-86. And like others stated could be a cam going bad also, but that wouldn't be a intermittent thing that would be continuous thing. You would be getting a poping back through the carb.

I second the words that mhtrapper spoke!!! Only time and perseverance will prevail, and they all have what it takes to be successful. Being retired or just having the time to search and destroy has a lot to do with it. By destroy I mean understanding your sonar, knowing the river and being able to understand the habitat of a walleye. Great job fella's you deserve it!!!

Man you guys have some dandy racks up there, I remember when we had property on the Perch River, late 70's early 80's we hardly saw any deer driving around, now out towards Water Town , on the road from Sackets harbor towards town there's always a bunch standing in those farm fields. We kind of chuckle to ourselves as its all posted and safety zones just like the deer around our hunting grounds, the first crack of the barrel the deer all run towards the developments and towards the papers on the trees. Of course you more serious hunters have some fine hunting grounds left unlike us, just isn't the same when I was 12 years old, 40 years ago. Good luck and be safe everyone. I can smell the onions frying as the backstraps get peeled of the bone.

Thanks for the info guys. Today I was watching a show about fishing for muskies and of all places it was on SLR and the weeds were terrible, they took a skirt off a spinner bait, cut most of the long hairs or whatever you call the stuff off and it looked like a umbrella then they put it up the line backwards and anklered it with a slip bobber stop. That kept their baits pretty clean by golly. Food for thought if nothing else.

Set radio on scan, listen to what channel has the most chatter then set to that channel or leave it on scan, most guys use 68 but that's not etched in stone, might want to ask someone in that area if you don't wish to scan, but that's what I do.

For Sale : USA old johnson 125 hp
Xxx replied to fishghost's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Those oler Johnson motors were work horses, my uncle had one on a older tri hull. One night he docked the boat and it gave one hell of a storm, wind blew all night and it poured for hours, next morning the boat was under 3 foot of water. Dad and Skip hooked a come a long to a tree and I got the dumb end, hooking the cable to the boat. Long story short is they winched the boat out of the water. Dad and Skip tore the motor down blew and wiped everything dry, put it back together new fuel and lower end oil and she fired right up. To this day my other uncle has that very same engine on his boat which we replaced the older 3 cylinder force with this mid 70's Johnson motor, which has better power and better fuel consumption than the 125 force. -
Good idea, especially if you think there is raw fuel being spewed out the exhaust. You are very welcome, best of luck with your new ride.

As stated above you guys did great!!! Really all you guys needed was 3 arms thing went rather well!!! Great Vid. -
Is this the first time this has happened. Have you changed oil before and they were the same? Meaning one engine might be rebuilt and not the other? If not does each engine have its own temp gauge. Usually there are 2 major things that turn oil black quickly, excessive heat or lots of carbon like unburned fuel or a weak cylinder where the carbons of unburned fuel or the gasses of unburned fuel mix with the oil. Sometimes a simple tune up can cure this issue. If the oil doesn't smell like gas its contaminated with carbons, and if it is thicker than its a over heating issue. Some places can check your oil to see what's in the oil. Like a heavy duty truck repair or a dealership, usually a Diesel engine repair shop, they are always concerned with the longevity of oil. Just some food for thought.
