5 color worth taking come mid-June ?
Xxx replied to fatboyjack1's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I can't agree more with the guys saying to keep the core, if you don't have the dive charts for the snap weights you are guessing. I just thought it would be easier to run jets #20-30 or a dipsy with the dive chart on the back. I have all the Precision Trolling Bibles with the dive charts but those that don't the other methods are easier to target your depth you want. Just saying. -
About friggen time!!! 20 years of education that's a great asset to this board!!! Only kidding, Welcome Aboard Man!!!!!

5 color worth taking come mid-June ?

Well I'm a lead core guy, but put simply you can be way more versatile with braid, mono jets-dipsy- slide divers on and on, save the 5 core maybe come across another reel somewhere. -
Moose knuckle I know the feeling, three back surgeries later and haven't worked a day since. The doctors say I'll never be able to work what I used to, and I'm from the wrong country to qualify for SSI. So I make do where I can, I have 4 rigger rods with 30# Sea Flea, I leader them down to 10-12# flurocarbon in skinny water it works nice because the lure can't dive to its depth usually 5ft max, the other rods all have 30# power pro on and a #8 SPRO swivel which then I tie a flurocarbon leader on to, depending on what we're fishing for. Then I have 3-5-7- color suffix 18# same thing there I use a SPRO swivel and attach a flurocarbon leader to suit the situation. When I run my cores I use my rigger rods plus 2 others. So I try to utilize all I can. I saw they have color metered braid, so if you used that on a spinning reel you would know how far back you are, I really don't think the fish care what type of outfit is in the rod holder.

It doesn't take many years of poor to nonexistent hatches to really reduce the population, just take the Lake Erie situation where the walleyes were almost extinct, we are not over harvesting here but in a sence it's the same thing. 150 boats with 6 fish in the live well like BS mentioned the gobies and gill are thanking each and every guy out there, next year they will have 2-3 fish in the well, and the following year there might be some no fish boats. They can make the walleye legal size 18" from the first island of the Black River and above the dam 15" but they can't put a no catch and release on certain lake? I don't get it.

Before I made the trip north I inspected my wheel bearings, and boy am I glad I did. The seals went and left water in and the races were all pitted, so 4 bearing sets with races and 4 new seals and I wanted the ones that are double lipped and the seal body itself is coated in a thin rubber, then apon further inspection I noticed that 2 tires were showing signs of dry rot cracks on the side walls, till all said and done $450.00 but I was able to tow in confidence, and I shouldn't have to do other than grease and go. Oh new brake lines "metal"

Depending on what track system you choose, however many rod holders you have, you will need that many bases for your holders. If the price of the bases are 3/4 price of holders that fit, well that's the way I would fly if not then attach the base of the holder to the base of your track system and your done!Well the universal track mount is $25.00 and the other holders are $79~99. It's your choice.

That sounds awesome JT, I never caught a Muskie but a boat load of pike in my time. What's the average size smallies you catch out of Otisco?
-
Why not take the old one with and get the right one!! Save yourself a return trip and you'll need the old one for a core anyway unless you buy a brand new one, that will probably be made in China

This is very true and a handful of us knew this long before ethanol was even out, how did we know, well my uncle had 2 dirt modified race cars. One ran on high octane race fuel and the other ran on alcohol, the jets in the carbs were triple the size and that car took twice the amount of fuel, which after 2 years of having to deal with the fuel separating and going through all the horror stories you hear about carbs getting gummed up, we switched to regular race fuel, and never looked back
-
And that was the best answer to the best answer!!! Absolutey 100% correct, I went through the same ordeal, set the boat in the water fired her up adjusted the cam and it hasn't given me any grief since.

I think you might be on to something, because in Brownville just before Dexter that little gas station had 91 octane ethanol free gas which it never did before. The gas station is just before the Black River Camp Grounds and not far from Sackets Harbor, we pulled in around 3PM on our way up and we were 3 units back, not even knowing that was the ethanol free gas and it was only a few cents more a gallon.

Well that totally sucks!! If you turn it into your Ins. Company you shouldn't have to pay the deductible because it's an act of nature, kinda like hitting a deer. LOL. But seriously it's not funny!

In your situation I don't think anyone can give you a strait up answer due to the jasper up grade, the best bet is to inspect the timing cover yourself then take the old one with you to match it up. I have found many times that the book reads this from factory, but the aftermarket stuff they have a tendency to mix and match!!!

Although your niece didn't catch any eyes and I know you tried your best Kevin, it just seems that's the way it goes, been there done that!! We all know you kick a$$ with the eyes all season, she will have to go again, now that wouldn't be a bad thing for either one of you!!! I know I wouldn't have a problem with that!! Best of luck next time I'm sure you wll produce.

There are a lot of guys telling me the smallies aren't in the numbers they used to be, but the ones they are catching are all nice. So the stories go, since the smallies are supposed to be feasting on the gobies are they just that much harder to catch or are the bigger ones nasty enough to keep the gobies from destroying there nest. I watched a show on the fishing channel saying there worried about the smallie population in Lake Ontario, they claim there is 1 gobie for every 2 square foot of lake floor, it showed the smallies totally exhaust themselves to the point of death to protect their nest is this what's happening? I don't know. Maybe the large mouth are doing well, oh one other thing they mentioned about the gobies is they are seeking deeper water than what they originally thought also, I know I caught them out in 30-40ft but they are claiming they are deeper. When the bass are on the nest you can catch them with a bare hook for gods sake why do this to give the gobie more of the upper hand. My brother-in-law is a semi-pro bass angler and last year won a new bass boat and he wins the Beltzville lake tournaments all the time, if you can win on Beltzville Lake you got your $hit together, and he comes up to our camp a few times a year, and he notices a decline in his catch ratio. He normally has 18-25 fish days last year his best day was 6. Yes there's always other factors that come into play, I'm just using him as an example. I don't fish for the large mouth but the smallies are a fun fish to catch, pound for pound I think they got it.

I have an Elite 7 hdi and I like it a lot, or you could get the 5 with chirp for the loot you have to spend. I'm a Lowrance guy so maybe others will have knowledge of other units in the $500,00 price range
