The Rochester carbs are simple to rebuild and the merc carb is just a tad different just to screw with ya, I found this out on the 3.0L and the accelerator pump took a dump, the hardest part was getting the spring in the accelerator valve to be in the right position when the top of the carb is installed, sounds to me the low idle metering body is fould up, that’s what was the ailment with mine also, the corn juice just turned everything the $hit. After we rebuilt the whole carb she purrs like a kitten.

Awesome fish, congrats to your outing!! -
Do you fish the entire length of core in the water with the backing about 30-50ft to the release?
-
What did you come up with and what type of core did you decide to go with?? Thanks for any info. PAP

When I was in business having a starter & alternator rebuild shop, we got a lot of calls from guys who had these issues, most of the time it wasn’t worth the time to replace parts, as the water just rusted everything to hell and we could get replacement units cheaper than the dealers hourly wage just to look at it. Give your local auto electric rebuilder a call you might be surprised!!

I made a personal purchase which was nice and the price was nice also!! I just got lucky!!!

Yea buddy, the lake looks like a mirror, great job on the silver fish!! Congrats to your outing!!! -
That’s a scary feeling to be way out there and to be able to get back safely is the main objective, my uncle was completely wrong in his bearings as which way is home that’s for sure, I followed my hand held unit which has a mount took us back safe and sound!! I still use that unit as my gps speed. That was before the sonars had the gps available to the average Joe. And they just made a square block line. LOL

We were out in the fog but not this one a few years back, we went in between Stoney and Galloo isles and the fog drifted but we were on the fish!! Soon I couldn’t see the very front of the bow. Luckily I made a trail on my hand held unit it was a Lowrance H20 unit. We headed for the barn since it was really thick yet, all the while my uncle is calling me every name in the book. This way I should be going according to he’s dumb ass way of thinking, before you know it we are at the cut into Henderson right smack perfectly lined up with the bridge and through the cut we go. Long story short I asked if he wanted to drive the rest of the way and if you F’up I’m going to come unglued and swear your ass up and down OOH yea keep that pointer on the blue line and you’ll put us on the trailer. Don’t leave the dock anymore without my gps. Great doc.

Nervous wreck

The shift interrupter stumbles the motor so you can get into a gear and be able to pull it out of gear. This switch is located on the cable plate and if the shifter cable is stretched the shift interrupter has just a tad longer hang time it kills the motor. It’s a S.O.B. If you don’t know exactly where the numbers or measurements should fall from the clip to the center brass barrel. A strong 1/16th to a 1/8” is all it takes to be off and it will make you wanna pull your hair out!! This switch has nothing to do with anything else other than doing its job, that is stumbling the motor so the lower unit gears can easily be pulled away from the forward gear to reverse gear or neutral to reverse. What year is it as they don’t make the old style!! I had to manufacture that shift plate on top my motor on my 3.0 liter because the nit wit that had the boat took the switch off and threw it away which it kept the motor from stalling, but he couldn’t get it out of gear!! as he ran into everything till he learned to shut the motor down so he could slow down sooner.. Best of luck hope it’s a cheap fix for ya. PAP. -

With the main firing right up, then stalling several times going into reverse, leads me to believe that your shift interrupter switch is out of adjustment and or it’s in the kill mode now that there’s no fire at all. I can’t believe all three coils took a dump at once. Sometimes the cables stretches and that switch can play games with you. A little lubricant spray helps, sometimes. -

HUH, I know that feeling as a father of twin girls the first outing with them was rather nerve racking to say the least. The first thing I did was get the best pfd for them and they make them so the kids flop over on their back. After that things pretty much fell into place as it did, Elizabeth caught a respectable smallie which tried every part on her Barbie pole while Emily hooked into a 21” eye, but she wasn’t satisfied because I hooked and handed her the pole?? What’s wrong with that?? I wanna do it just do as you would when by yourself!! Your head will be your worst problem if you let it!! Enjoy your first outing, it only gets better -
You have temp, speed and depth at the ball with the x4d, so there’s no guessing at depth with blow back. Just cable out till the Hawk is in the numbers of the fish on the finder. I used to think the guys that say “ I’d rather loose my finder than my probe”were nuts well I’m not far behind them in there thoughts.

Yea if you come out of Sackets Harbor make a left towards Henderson you will see the cut which is a bridge from that bridge Down to Stoney point you’ll see it getting deeper and deeper run Gambler rigs a few feet off the bottom and you’ll be golden!! -
