  1. I can relate to that fella's This winter has to be the longest one I can remember, We already have 2ft of snow on the ground and got another 14"s today with 2-5"s more tonight. With another storm coming Saturday with a 2-5" report and another one Monday evening into Tuesday not telling the amount yet? I know this sounds petty to you NY state guys but this will be almost 4ft on the ground here in PA. I haven't seen this much snow since I was a kid, lets see ahh oh ya 40 some years ago LOL, that damn ground hog was right again DARN IT !!!! hang in there guys look at all the money were saving on fishing gear. LOL. spring will be here sooner or later. PAP
  2. That's nothing shy of amazing!! I believe that took a lot of time and cuts down on time unwinding $hit and untangling everything and your organized it depth also --- COOL nice job!!!
  3. I change my fuel/water separator filter twice a year, after going through a complete rebuild of my motor last year my uncle who built the motor convinced me to run synthetic oil, due to the abuse a marine undergoes VS. a auto type engine and that way I don't have to change oil twice a year, Yea it's more money but like he mentioned it works out to about the same in $$ in the long run and don't have to worry about conventional oil break downs on hot days when engine temp might climb a little but not to the over heating stage. My uncle builds engines for dirt modified race cars and that's what they run and what I went through last year I don't want to do again to soon!! I would inspect all the wire connections, test the batteries. 700hrs isn't a long time for the Alt. but maybe pull the starter off and inspect it for rust inside, like the brush holders and the brushes themselves make sure the brush holders move freely, maybe take it to a local rebuilder and have him go over it. I'm self employed as a rebuilder and those are some of my concerns. I always carry a spare starter and Alt. and a aux. sol.
  4. We used to own property on the perch river, which is only about 3 miles if that, but in the spring there were so many carp spawning in there they turned the river into chocolate milk and unfishable for anything else. It's just outside of Dexter NY. they put a new bridge in that is to low for any size boat to fit under, we had to take the window bracket off my dads 18fter center console boat to fit under. The river isn't very wide or long once above the bridge, it has a lot of weeds and cat tails were the fish do their thing. It gets loaded with carp, I know my buddies used to come up to our place and they had a blast with their bows. I personally never saw another place that the carp were in thicker than the Perch river, but I also never targeted that specie of fish. Hope this helps I think you will have a great deal of success there. I remember the size fish the boys brought back to show us it was amazing the size of these fish. PAP.
  5. Don't worry about it I buy it at Sams or BJ's by the five gallon can, I'll just bring a gallon along.
  6. Funny thing this topic came up, I just watched our local news and Tom Clark our weather man said that the only lake that isn't froze over was Lake O, and it's been years since this happened!! I have to agree with Chas, what happened to the global warming they've been talking about?? one thing for sure if this summer is as hot as this winter was cold might have to put a air conditioner in the boat. LOL.
  7. YEA< that's why I mentioned the digital, no problem will bring it along. I use it a lot mostly in smoke house as I make a lot of jerky for other guys, they seem to like my recipe, when I get up there I tell you the secret I use propane for heat but I have an old pot belly stove outside for the smoke. the Temp is critical and the digital tells me right away as it goes in 1or2 degree's one way or the other so I can correct what's happening asap. PAP. OH DO YOU have the peanut oil???
  8. If your going to go through all the trouble why not run a torpedo and be done with it. If you want it away from the boat run it off the boards. I can run 2 at least lead cores and torpedo's off my boards simple and proven.
  9. That would be great rnsurfnturf, that would save me some trouble of having to haul that up. Do you have the oil & temp gauge for the oil, if not it's no problem for me to bring my digital one. Thanks PAP.
  10. I mounted my masts right behind the canopy rod support, basically as far front as I can get them. One on each side so I could mount my rod holders where I wanted them, and a 4 pole tree about 4ft from planer mast. I'm a little old school and couldn't see spending over $300.00 for the electric for a 3 minute job but everybody has their own reasons for what they do, I'm not knocking electric planer masts, there's lots of them out there. I personally like the cannons for their clutch-brake system (simple) and parts available. If you have a hard top many guys mount them on their hard top and I agree with the homemade boards. I pull a lot of lead core and weights on my lines and can tell you the store brand didn't cut it. Like I said before I never was with anyone who used the otters, so I can't say one way or another about them.

    Lead Core?

I totally agree with the snap weights and braid line, we can achieve depths way deeper and faster. I will be giving the speed trolling for the eyes on lake O this year a go what do I have to loose? try it right!! Maybe a pike or muskie magnet, I also agree with your speeds lead core is worthless in those conditions, I am going to try Torpedo's weights on some of my rigs this year. Also JT. did you see the post with the guy that makes the shark type weight? They look sweet painted, they also have the rough pattern like the sharks, I have to see what in comparison they are to the sharks in $$ He did say in his post they were machined out to form a mold, which is expensive, My mags, can lift 12lbs no problem. Maybe as time gets closer you could give me a heads up on what to bring as far as equipment. I know all my trolling goods and casting rod, and I'll touch base with you on other questions I have. PAP OH I talked to Dave and Butch, and we are going up to the camp Thurs. and Hit the road Fri. am I have to find out when we can get into our cabin, that will determine what time we leave our camp.

    Lead Core?

Thanks I kind of thought I could get away with a 20 series reel which I have floating around.
  13. I can tell you that the lures that are green on top with the tiger stripes and the orange bellies are walleye magnets, we bought them out of a grab bag bin when Fays had the sporting good store in Water Town, now the ones we had were not the deep diver type, and never knew what the name of the lure was either, but they worked, there were times dad and I had doubles on when trolling those lures. Over the years they got among the missing and never could find the exact same, those are close ,but deep diver type, I wouldn't see why the wouldn't work. We just flat lined them in the spring. If they weren't deep divers I'd buy every one you got. Good luck with your sale PAP.

    Lead Core?

This might be a stupid question I never broke up my cores before, being a walleye fisherman most of the time I needed all the depth I could get, so I spliced a piece of mono in at the 8th color so I had a full 7 colors, figuring I'm in the 35ft zone and then a full 10 colors which was actually 9 with the mono. Now if I wanted a 4 color set up could I use a smaller reel? and what size reels do you use for the small core lengths, I don't use line counter reels I figured what the sense do the math, I figure 1 color is 5ft and it works for me. I use 30 series reels for 10 colors and with about 100yards of backing it fills a 30 series prefect. I use the 27lb test for my full colors but was thinking I have a $hit pile of 12lb that I would like to try on a 4 color could I get away with a 20 series reel for that. Thanks PAP.
  15. HEY Rabbit, I had beagles all my life Kinger is welcome aboard my vessel any time, oh- Yea, along with you also LOL. JT great way to switch it up,
  16. First off what type boat do you have, I had an open bow boat and had a cannon duel reel mast. Then I bought a 22ft cuddy, so I made 2 out of the 1 using all the parts from the 1, I made the new masts 6ft tall and the reels I put where they are comfortable to use, since my boat is a deep boat the 6fters makes the lines high off the water, the clips slide down the line nicely. I can't help you with the otters, as I don't use them, I purchased a set of double boards and never was happy with them, and I went with a buddy of mine 2 years ago, and was amazed as to how his boards pulled. Ronnie told me he made his own and now he made me a set and they pull nice, we were in 3 fters and they just work great they pull strait but they don't pull like a mule to the outside, hard to explain just work nice and we ran 6 lines off each of his boards, all 4 of us guys were busy with the browns, and a dedicated driver, thanks to my brother.
  17. YEA you got that right!! I plan on doing it again but will do my home work first. I booked this trip from the Harrisburg Sport Show I didn't expect this ride, oh well live and learn.
  18. After fishing on a guided trip (life time dream of mine) The Bay of Quinte for 4 days of -30F and 30mph winds and a 15minute snowmobile ride in the ski -boos with a propane cylinder ice auger and a basket full of tip-ups we arrived at our shanty 4ftx4ft made out of 2x2s and 1/2 inch insulation, the walls litterley bowed in when the winds gusted up to 40mph and 1 propane cylinder with 1 little burner on it which 1 day went out at 2pm so no heat till 5pm until the guy came and got me, which I got a 40mph ride in the ski-boos, with the empty tank and the auger and the tip ups back to my truck, and all I caught were 3-4 inch perch. You could look down and see you jig on the floor of the lake, this outfitter gave me the green wiener, "I caught the next train out of Canada" LOL I hope he waited all day for me to show up for the last day of my adventure, but I doubt it he didn't care he had a pocket full of American $$ which at that time was 35% exchange rate. To this day haven't stepped out on the Ice.
  19. our cabin sleeps six, so if anyone wants to bunk with us you can, I think we will have room for at least 2 if your interested.
  20. I talked to a very nice lady at the Otisco Campground yesterday, I got a fisherman's cabin and a slip for Friday night and Saturday night and if no one wants our cabin Sunday we will stay Sunday also. She did tell me to tell the guys that are participating in this event to book ASAP!! as they book early and a lot of them for the year, just a heads up to the LOU Otisco walleye fisherman!! PAP.
  21. Lake Ontario Walleye fisherman are like "gold" diggers they spend lots of time and money on fuel, because these fish are so nomadic. You need to know where to start and their migration habits. So once you find them there not there for long, and on the chase you go again, depending on what launch you go out of it could be lots of miles everyday, which in return cost lots$$ at the pump. There are only a few areas that they hang for say a good month & half before the major population heads into Canadian waters. All this starts when spring brown season starts, (mother nature decides that) some guys pick up walleyes while brown fishing, don't kid yourself they will mark that area, come 1st Sat. of May they got a grip on where they are. A good starting spot is the Black River Bay there are always walleyes in that area I caught them up to June in that area. Weather permitting South/west wind Start at the last bouy out the cannel and drift up through with a bottom bouncer and a spinner harnesses change color if nothing happens. Try on the outside of the bouys & try to find waters that aren't being used Try a drift sock, lots of the time very slow is the ticket, the longer you bait is in their face the better your chances are. During the week is better. Then you can run inline boards or big boards to get your lures away from the boat. # 1 thing with the walleye is be as stealthy as possible long fluro. leaders in the 10 to 12# range and be as quiet as possible, I don't mean talking, Motor wise dropping your anchor on the floor ect. This should get you a good start, and keep this info you caught fish on and progress from there. They are out there, this isn't Erie don't expect to pick up a limit every time out, it takes time patients and a lot of fuel. Hope this helps!! PAP> One thing I keep in mind that BSmaster says is when you finally catch a walleye it's like biting into a peppermint patty sooo true!!
  22. I have no problem doing the grilling and the fryer, let me know I can bring a fryer I deep fry (Beer batter) lots of fish at the camp also will supply the peanut oil as that's the only way to fly, Maybe we could all agree on 1or2 types of meat to grill, or if you want to make your own ka-bobs or what ever, I was thinking along the line of Ribeye Steak. Which I can purchase whole at cost and slice them 3/4 to 1" what ever you guys prefer or we can do hamburgers and hot dogs and bring a dish of something. YOU guys decide what you want to do, I'm just making a suggestion to keep it simple. Instead of making 15 different things on the "grills" I will need help, keeping it simple I can do it and enjoy doing it. Lets make it everybody's off the water to eat, and those who want to hit the water again can do so, I'll be one of those guys. I don't want to sound overpowering here as it is JT's show. I don't want to be playing chef half the afternoon while others are fishing.
  23. I just Talked to Dave & skip and maybe Butch will be with me for the Walleye Get together, Those are the guys that where going on the Canadian Trip but decided to say screw it and do this it's for a good cause and it's a definite thing, I will be calling the camp site today and reserve a cabin as my crew is older and I'm not to far behind in speed, as far as walking ect. will ask about a slip right away also. SO JT and a lot of other guys, July we will get to shake hands and put our skills together and have one Hell of a time, I don't know about food, are we going to have like 2oclock lunch type picnic thing if so should we start a kitty in JT name as far as sending money to support this event or is that to come later as we get closer to the date. I have no problem being the chef as that's what I went to school for. Can't wait this will be GREAT!!! thanks for making me a part of this event!! PAP.
  24. Thanks JT I will do that
  25. Sounds good to me, I'd like to settle on a date, but keep in mind the bass tourney. guys don't want to be there along with them, just a heads up on their outings on the lake, I have a Canadian trip planned for that week, but I have contacted the guy 2 times and was supposed to of had received paper work by now, I don't think if he would send the paper work now I would go, kind of leery of a guy like that, and this is a definite thing, I would be bringing my 2 uncles so I would like to rent a cabin and a slip for the old fellows not to mention I'm not in the best of condition, If I have to I will be tent ready, but prefer a cabin. Thanks again JT I'm actually excited about it, especially to meet LOU guys, I got to talk to Chas from LOU and supposed to go out with him, and supposed to go out with FleetTracker this year and on an outing out of Henderson this summer, 7-8 of us are going out this summer, so this would be a very cool event. Thanks to all that participate. PS, maybe a little info on speed, I remember you talking speeds that are unheard of in other lake conditions. LOL PAP.
