I'm in where ever when ever!! Otisco, sounds good to me I never fished that lake so that would be something different, I will have my boat up at the Black River Camp Grounds by the first week of May, but can trailer back down to Otisco should this happen. Thanks JT for trying for round 2 of the walleye guys. I know my uncles would come with me so there would be 3 of us.

My uncle has a friend that at one time owned most of the shore waters in an area of the Black lake, I didn't think to ask what shore, over the years he sold the land as it went up in price and still owns a large portion of shore land and he has a huge house on the water, Dave said the whole front is glass? maybe you took notice to his house and the Ice shanty is his also, this guy knows the lake and said it is unusual to catch 10 over 14" but has caught them 14" here and there, must have been on a school of the big babies. Dave did mention they caught a lot around 8-10" and then 12"ers and then 12"ers and 14"ers mixed in and they kept 10 of the 14"ers. With a lot of action on the tip ups with the pike, he did also say that they wish they could of drilled the holes for the tip ups further away from the Ice shanty but he said you can only drill them so far away from where you are, something like it would be an unattended tip up and the law is always there amongst the fisherman! OH buy the way GOOD LUCK up there, and may a 14" perch come your way, I'll try to touch base with Dave and ask him where they caught the perch. The old guy that goes with them is named Dave also and owns over 100 acres of property on the east shore about a 1/8 mile above the cause way. He has cabins he rents during the summer months, I asked Dave about the winter time and he said no, he doesn't rent the cabins in the winter. After you go over the cause way on the right is a road to the right called Mitchel road which was named after him (David Mitchel) and all his cabins are on that road, maybe you could contact David Mitchel for access to different areas of the lake. Maybe your all set anyway. East shore 1/8 mile above causeway for the bigger perch

My uncles and friends, were fishing on Black Lake from last Thursday until Friday afternoon, Meaning 8 days, my uncle Dave said it was one of the best trips he had in years, they drilled 5 holes 8" with a power auger for the tip ups and he bought this new hand auger that has a bit on that actually pulls the bit through the ice. He said he can drill 1.5 holes to the power auger 1, anyway they had a shanty out on the ice with a wood stove in it and that he had to go out side to cool off, the perch fishing was great with 10 perch over 14" and a bunch 9 to10" but they put them back, disappointing was the crappie fishing they couldn't get where they wanted to go because the Amish were there in full force (he did mention that they "aint" bashful they take just about whatever hit the ice) The pike fishing was fantastic with the biggest 29" he claimed that it was nonstop action all day with all fish released except 10 of the 14" perch and 1, 28" pike that was hooked to hard they didn't think it would make it. The Ice was 20" thick, people were driving their trucks on the lake. And as far the Ice auger he wanted to say the first 2 maybe 3 holes he could keep up but after that forget about it the power auger will win. He is going up to Maine in a few week where it's hand auger only and 6" hole is allowed, so he was a testing it out and he was very pleased with it. Maybe next year he said I would be able to go along. he said to tell all LOU members if they can get to the lower end the crappie bite was on just couldn't get to where they wanted to go, and also there is about 10" of snow and makes for a hard and long pull if you don't have a snowmobile or a 4x4 four wheeler. I would be very interested as my father, my best friend. We worked side by side for 25 years as business partners in a F&F starter & alt. Never had a big blow out we worked together like well oiled machines. He passed away 5 years ago and was a Korean War Vet. and proud of it, I will help as far money and later a boat to take out Vets. I wont have my boat up until the first week in May. I can trailer to where ever, as I'm based at the Black River Camp Grounds. If you want PM. me and I'll give you my cell# as to what to expect.

I picked a cam out of a Mercruiser motor parts catalog that John had and it was very close to the numbers on the original cam and merc. numbers with the after market heads and bored . 30 over I picked out a cam with torque starting at 900 rpm and pulls to 4300 rpm and the horsepower starting at 1100 and still making power at 4500 rpm, on the dyno. they worked well from 1100-4500 and still wanted to keep pulling at 5000 rpm I told John that's enough it will never see that kind of abuse. Out of the hole it literally stands on end and leaps on plane and at 3200 we were going 35mph. and that seemed like we were flying, and yet it trolls nice for hours and don't run hot , but I will have a kicker so she will only be used to get to and from. I was happy!!

First off, before joining this site I had no idea about stringers going bad, I always bought old boats and repaired a lot of bad floors and transoms, but never, until the boat I have know replaced the stringers. I bought a 1979 Sea Ray Seville 18fter with a inline 4cyl. it was in a guys back yard, so I stopped and asked him if would like to sell the boat and he said yes, how about $ 500.00 SOLD! so I had go home and get a air tank to blow up the tires. Now getting to the stringers I had to shovel 2ft of snow out off the boat and put the boat in the garage because the bilge area was filled with ice up to the motor, which we later found out that the timing chain was rusted away at the bottom, getting back to the stringers again, I replaced the whole floor system and well looked at the stringers they didn't seam soft, but never really inspected them thoroughly, and used that boat for years, out to lake Erie in waves that one should of had their head examined, and on Ontario in 3fters, used this boat till I bought the one I own now. What would happen or what should you look for if the stringer are bad? Will it start to crack the outer fiberglass or will the boat bust in half, what signs should one look for should this happen. Just curios as to what happens if someone should buy a boat with bad stringers and use it not knowing the stringers are bad?? Thanks I think this is something people should be made aware of. PAP.

Thank you for the info, I really appreciate it. I looked and looked, I couldn't find it

Does anyone remember a post about a diver that was supposed to go as deep as riggers, I looked back through the old posts but I couldn't come up with it (The new deepest diver yet) some said it would replace our riggers & and there were some that stated it would never replace our riggers.

Fishtails, I know how you feel, I have a 1982 Sea Ray 22ft cuddy, Yea it's not the most nice looking boat, it's heavy to tow, but in the water it takes the seas very well, I've just replaced the old 305 with a fresh 350 and she works like a charm, can't wait to bring her up to the lake, we have a camper in the BRCG, in Dexter on the Black River, very stable boat in the water.

Chas, first I would contact Capt. Broz. But I was thinking my father in law has tri axels dump trucks, and he uses those type fittings all the time on hydraulic fittings, some are for air lines and some are hydraulic lines, maybe a heavy duty truck supply shop would have what you need. Just a thought?

Thank you for redoing your post, I see your from mountain top PA. I'm from Kresgeville PA, just south of the Pocono Race track, small world, I'm starting to second guess myself, I might have power steering, I have a big steering rack mounted to the motor and the transom with all hard lines running to it and the power steering pump on the main motor is hard lined to this steering rack looking thing in the back, if I have hydraulic lines running to the wheel then I'll know, and that won't be till spring, but hey thanks for the heads up!! PAP ps. by then it will be brown season so you know how that goes, ---- it till next fall

The kicker charging the batteries is a great thing if you have one, mine is a older Johnson with no charging system. It's a 15 horse and works to good yet, to get rid of it. I'll come up with something!
-
I was looking at that also, but what drives it (Electric 12V) I would assume that it would take more batteries, isolated from the starter batteries, how long would the batteries last, I could always start the main and charge them up should the get low on voltage, being in the starter & alt business I could build a high output alt, that's not a problem. I'll go back through the posts and call someone who could help us out.

I was wondering if anybody knows if this this is possible, I want something to operate my steering without the main motor running, I want to use my kicker to troll with, but I have what they call power assist, I have a power steering pump on the main motor with cables running up the wheel, without the motor running it's very hard to steer. Is there a unit out there that would activate my power steering and control the outdrive, I have the rods and brackets to connect the kicker to the out drive.

I asked the same question earlier in the season, and a lot of the guys told me to use this guy, John Mann, he is supposed to excellent work at a reasonable price, I saved his info because I'm in need of new side windows and if the price is right a new aft curtain anyway here is his # 315-871-6400 and he's out of Sodus Bay (Sodus Bay Canvas) hope this helps, I'm out of the Black River Bay Campgrounds and go out of Henderson a lot. My thought was I would trailer up this spring do some spring browns, then make arrangements to drop boat off on my way home and pick it up when finished. A excuse for the wife have to pick up boat at canvas shop and spend a few days on the lake. LOL

Thanks, I couldn't fore see it going anywhere else, but wanted to be sure, if it's the right one for my boat, I'm going to use it. if not give it to somebody that can use it. How can I tell what it is, are there numbers on it somewhere?
