I might be wrong, but the way I read it, it only applies to those under 18 years of age, is this right? I think it should be that if your operating on NY. waters and under 18 then you need to be certified no matter what state your from Just like a hunting if your from PA. you can't hunt in NY with a PA license. I think eventually everyone will need to be certified and probably will need to be renewed every few years, to keep the revenue coming in. That's my take on it. Getting back to the age thing the younger generation definitely have less common sense then us older folks. I have twin daughters and I see it every day. Not only my kids but all the younger one need to be led around by the hand or there are lost, it's sad but that's the way it is. One other thing is that at the age of 12 we were driving farm tractors and trucks and cars at 14, all the roads were dirt and it was our duty to take the wagons to the barn and bring a empty back to the fields no one ever gave it a thought, it was expected of us young ones .

Just wondering what the spring walleye program is. First Saturday in May is the opener, our camp grounds open up the Saturday before the walleye open, since the Black River Basin is super for walleye depending on what mother nature throws at us, lately they have spawned and headed towards deeper water, but if it's a cold spring and they are still in the bay, I was thinking of hitting Otisco for a few days before going up to the big pond, I did some research on the lake and they certainly got their game going on. I was surprised that it is only 6 miles long and 3/4mile wide that's about the size of our local lake which is 8 miles long. That's still enough water to stump you. Do you guys know any place to stay locally. If not I have a outfitters tent, and will make due with that in the campground, got wood stove and all, wouldn't be the first time I spent a week in it with 3 other guys. Also does the lake have a motor size limit ours doesn't, I didn't see anything but that's not to say it doesn't. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks PAP.

Thanks Tim, you are the one that turned me on to Garmin and they have some sweet gps. and sounders the one I looking at is a kick ass finder also, 4000 watts of power and 500 rms, 77/200 they claim capable up to 1900ft with picture perfect bottom results, although only 5 inch screen, I don't need a tv set on the dash anyway. I have a humming bird 727 at the helm now, might move that to rear for the guys running the riggers and put the Garmin at the helm. my riggers are electric but don't auto adjust so the 727 will help keep the riggers where they will do best in or above the fish, for some reason I've had the best luck running 5-10ft above the fish. I used to try to run the riggers through the fish and the slider always did the damage, so I pulled the riggers up 5ft and game on, slider did the steelies and brown then instead of the salmon, now we're catching 2 different species of fish on one pole, mostly never 2 on at once, other rigger has salmon and slider on other rigger has steelie or brown, and once in a while a white fish? Thanks again Tim.

If the campground is easier then the marina that's the one I would use. I have NO patience for those clowns that can't get their boat in the water, 10-15 minutes to back down in the water, then remember they didn't put in the plug, still got the straps on the boat to the trailer, WTF get out of the way I've got fishing to do and so I rather run 1 or 2 miles over the water to avoid that scenario. JMO.

Joe are you a walleye fisherman, according to Justracytrolling the walleye are a good target also, please post if you do or don't catch anything. He trolls perch lures at night for walleyes, might even pick a musky that way also, as he sometimes has wicked hits at night that tear him off, could be those toothy critters. Good luck, I'd love to hit that lake for a couple of days next year.

I'm thinking of purchasing a Garmin Echo maps 50's, was wondering if anyone on here has this model or knows Garmin. One thing they don't go into great detail is their mapping choices, do the come preloaded with eastern Ontario or are there chips you can purchase from Garmin, or are others compatible. System is sweet and certainly won't crush the bank, I was really impresses with the clarity and smoothness of the chart, of course in sim. mode. only draw back was the person on the phone couldn't answer my question about the maps for eastern Ontario, would like to know is they have the depth contours also. Thanks for any input PAP

Very interested in the cannon riggers, did a map quest 5hrs&10 minutes got back to site to a red closed sign what the hell!! I would burn $100.00 in fuel so that would make them $375.00 still not bad if in excellent condition. OOH-well I'm either a day late or a $ short, story of my life. -

Since I made the above post about the Depth Master. I got in touch with that Tuna reel repair place or what ever it's called and he had the carbon fiber clutch disks told me to install them, try them let him know how they work, he was the only guy that had all the Depth Masters parts (everything!) WOW what a difference. For $39.00 reel cost + $8.99 for the drags stuff= $47.99 for a decent reel, what do you guys think? is it worth it or not. I have 6 of these reels, 4 DM30 and 2 DM45, and the DM30 does hold 1000ft 7strand torpedo, fills the spool perfect.

I think the lower unit marine lube might be synthetic and the gallon is probable the run of mill the gear oil JMO. I run Quick Silver (Merc. replacement) synthetic lube, yea it more$$$ but I can't find a cross-over for it. It's $26.00 every other year so I'm not going to spend to much time trying to save $2.00 Look at the cost of Mobil1 and you will see the price vs. Mobil 5w-30 regular oil

Congrats on the win!!! Sounds like the morning was quite the rip & tear action that makes you think, MAN, there really is a GOD, who would think action like this? Then the old light switch goes OFF, that's when the old thinking cap needs to be put on. What a mess those smallies made, but it paid off in the end GOOD JOB!!!!!!

Why are you leaving NY, for SD. is your family there? sounds like you got a nice family HERE!!, I don't know you, but I did read some of your posts. You speak like a man with prestige, and dignity. Like I said I don't know you and your departure speech certainly hit some soft spots on me, I'm sure the folks you know will have difficulty seeing you off. Take care of yourself and your family and your welcome to come fish my boat anytime, all though we will be seeking mostly walleyes LOL. good luck PAP. -
I just can't imagine going for my gear and its GONE!!. Every year we hear about this type of $hit and SKman makes secne, there are 2 types of scumbags out there, druggies who will take anything and the fellow fisherman, who can't afford the higher end gear, and they only take what they want, so they close everything up and act like nothing happened. Still a scumbag!! Hope all is found and returned. Sorry to hear this crap, makes me sick!!!!
