Fair Haven State Launch
mrclean replied to slimjim's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I would just call the park and ask em. Im sure they know whats going on. I would like to think they will make it available once Ice is out one way or the other..But call em up they will tell you.. -
You know what lol...we need a get pumped video lol. Someone mentioned the 18th of April lol, turns out that was our first trip of last year. We should be fine lol
-
I would like to think by then the ice is long gone. Wind and waves are always a crap shoot regardless of the timeframe but you should be fine. Our Winter was "typical" and "average" up here and April should be a valid target. The water levels are low but that really should not effect much around here. Heres a link to NOAA weather I like to use. I plotted 2 NM out of Fair Haven Village because it really does give you a realistic shot of winds, waves and other data... http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=43.34315755514772&lon=-76.70722961425781&site=buf&unit=0&lg=en&FcstType=marine

FYI Well I went up to bayside marina in Fair Haven to check on camp and such. Looks like there is still some ice in the bay. Reports say 8 inches still around pleasant beach area. But I can see everything melting by next week. Im going to open my place next week I think.and I could see us all fishing in the next two weeks if you want to. I am noticing large flocks of geese returning and their V shape were pretty tight which usually indicates large flocks heading this way. Get your gear ready people lol...Wont be long now..
-
Looks great. Today was my first day back in along time im like..."when did they do this??lol" I just figured out how to redo the sigs...just gotta play around with it for awhile.. Do anymore smilies or things like that come with it??
-
Ohhh im not soliciting my product but I do love the show lol....I was just curious just to how many people on here actually go to the show... It is shaping up to be a great show. The marinas seem to be bringing in more boats than the past and the boats are filling up the lots now...I think if your looking for something from say 16 to 21 this would be your show.
-
And why wouldnt you, it is the largest boat show in New York State! Of course I will be there, It will be my 21st year there as an exhibitor. Theres no better way to get the fever than going to the boat show in February lol...

30 lb kings right at my dock
mrclean replied to mrclean's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I would like to think the DEC will have some real good data after this year. Lord knows they camped out at the cleaning station all year long and noticeably more this year. Hell they were even diggin in the buckets.. Basically after they cut the nose its a matter of processing the info...that will take some time. Fish are still swarming the marina big time. This past week has been slow only 6 hook ups. The thing is its working because for all they release, they're coming back.... But they are still here and were gonna keep after them until they die out. The whole horseshoe is packed...incredible....Im shooting back up tonight and staying until later in the week or whenever.... -

No chuck and the rest are all done. You can write the majority of those guys off after September 1st for the most part. Fishin was slow Friday. Caught 4 and lost 3 others. Lets see what today brings. And yea there are more and more coming in. I think we have at least another two weeks to do this.. they still got fight in them too. turning black daily but still fighting... -

The thing is...these fish are not feeding at all. In fact they are dying. If your going to use a spoon you need a heavy one, silver backing like a little cleo (they work great). cast it out, count to 4 than bring her in.....repeat until hooked up lol. This is my favorite, blue/silver been using it for over 40 years now (or as long as they have been around anyway). This bad boy will work big time! I wouldn't bother with stickbaits but would go get some storm hot n tots...they are basically a crank bait that when you retrieve it at a slow to mid speed it goes back and forth basically pissing off the fish. It has a tendency to get to the right depth and go right thru them.Fall Salmon hate this lure with a passion. It just pisses them off...These also work well in the oswego river and the lock system as well... Obviously these tactics will not be effective in a place like the Salmon River. But for areas that you have to get deeper or pools where they spawn.....I cant help but think these two lures above would make your day better.. -

My sons took 4 more yesterday afternoon...3 females and a male(threw them all back)..Right next to your dock (popeye). Everything is real close to 30.. John already kicked out 3 guys for trying to fish it lol...This guy says "well he is doing it" (pointing to me) lol. John says he lives in here he can .... Were going back tonight. Its just too good not too...were gonna try and shoot some vids and photos.... -

The boat I am using is this little ole 12 footer. Been in that bay since the late 50's. When I get a fishon the boat acts as another drag lol, and the water is so low that the fish can pull the boat under the docks lol. So basically they get double drag on them and it just makes them become helpless. I adjust my drag tension to make the boat get pulled by the fish lol. After they get spent I just pull them in the boat by grabbing the backside of the gill. And the hits are right in the mouth for the most part. They are not feeding at all but they will get pissed enough to swipe at it. Thats one of the main reasons for the males being the majority... Now how long it lasts who knows but for the first wave...wow.. -
Fishing Report Carmen / Mr. Clean: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): From now until Mid October Time on Water: from dusk to dawn Weather/Temp: Irrelevant Wind Speed/Direction: Irrelevant Waves: Irrelevant Surface Temp: Irrelevant Location: My dock LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: Uncountable Total Boated: 10 Species Breakdown: Kings big ones Hot Lure: Hot N Tot, Hot Tiger, Blue stripe, Green Hulk Trolling Speed: Irrelevant Down Speed: Irrelevant Boat Depth: Irrelevant Lure Depth: 2-5 feet ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== First off I would like to thank the local DEC and local groups of the Fair Haven area for their stocking program over the past 5 years or so. Your hard work LOL has given us the best Fall Salmon runs in years! As of 4 days ago (after our fall picnic) we got hit with a major wave of big kings. I broke out my small boat the samon express(spelled that way for a reason lol) and paddled out to the middle of our horseshoe in our marina and had a blast. I pulled in 10 (released them all back) and had another 7 or 8 for some great fights. Most of what I took were huge Jaw males but some females in there as well. They are jumping in there by the hundreds and I am not kidding on that.. Highly active indeed. The best part is...Private marina and its all about the location. Normally I would hit the wall at Oswego or even hit the salmon river but the last two years I have not had to leave my dock... Were gonna go hammer them tomorrow and thru the weekend. I am certain we will have vids and photos for sure

I wanted to thank everyone who attended our picnic. For a first time event we certainly did it right! It was a great way to welcome Fall and the incoming Salmon! For those that didnt make it you missed out....great food, great people and great times.... A special thanks to everyone who pitched in on the organizing... oWbIPHNvwPs Now its time to break out the 30lb big game and 6'5 rods and go get them salmon!

mrclean replied to joetroller's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
lol we got one yesterday 16 lbs. not even worth the photo lol... Were fishin from 100 to 240. Mostly 100 ft down. I use nk mags and 28's . I like speed change -
lol well the good news is acdc doesn't really care too much about copy-write infringement because they let me use it and put it up on youtube lol.... Ill get the bag pipes in next time good idea... The real point of the video is fishing has been real fun this year and I think for everyone who has gone out its been that way. Surprising the lake has cooperated and so have the winds. People talk about the lake turning and sure it may but hey get out there and enjoy it, it is what it is (right now 150-220, 110 feet down, NK @ 2.7-3.1, 15 feet from the ball). Honestly I cant wait to shoot a video of getting totally skunked lol.....I think it would be pretty hilarious.

Why are Lake Trout called chickens?
mrclean replied to Rippin'Line's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
It is an embarrassment to the char family and an insult to the salmonoide within the lake. -
This weekend is not about who got the biggest fish. Its not about who got the most. Its not about Im an advanced fisherman compared to the novice... Its about spending time with your family and friends with the realization of who we are and how proud we should be of.....who we are Have a great weekend. Fishing has been great all week long and the sun is out!!!! G6Dr-y3Mbiw

Fair Haven 6/23 6/24
mrclean replied to joetroller's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Lol , I dont think too many had the pleasure of bringing a summer king in a 14 ft deep v lol...I mean..you aint got much room in the middle of that boat. There's a bench seat there, and when it thrashes along with the old rickety net its pretty hilarious..All ya see is tail flippin around. Even with two in the boat on a calm day it aint calm say the least.. Sure bigger boats are alot easier....well sometimes lol WLE1hPnyHyo -

mrclean replied to joetroller's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
LOL. reminds me of a story... about 34 years ago I would go out in my 14ft deep v starcraft (a green one) with a 15hp engine and two cannon mini troller downriggers lol. Obviously it would have to be a no wave day.. Well this one morning it was beautiful, little or no chop..me and my buddy hop in and fire out the chute of fair haven. We go out to 120feet of water with the big boys. Here we are fishing in the midst of these clowns and they are looking at us (cause it was tight fishing that year) in total disgust... Now we have our life jackets on, and were trollin with our mni trolls. two lines lol...As we pass by this one boat(Mr. Im a hardcore with 25 rods) he calls out on his speaker (you guys shouldnt be here, get a real boat).... And then BAM! FISHON! Big one...Here we are laughing as we are fighting this huge fish (again, beautiful day no waves and fishin was slow...These guys in the big boat are watching us fighting this fish.I fight the fish or a few minutes and pass the rod to by buddy sitting up front. He tires it out and we pull in with our ****ty net a 29 pound king... Back then that was a mid size king 30's were common back then...We clean up our act and before we head in I shout back to the guy... "Your boats too big and vibrates too much...On a calm day your not gonna get nothin lol.. back then there was no internet or cell phones. but I have the photo on my door in the basement... -
