correct but that doesnt mean one should drive to Oswego with his three buddies from NW NJ and fish all weekend long. that is really intended for SOLITARY use by locals or people within close driving like syracuse etc....People are being asked to stay home. To try and "Skin the cat" is not going to help the situation. Fish from shore by yourself or if you have a small craft and can go by yourself is one thing. People need to respect other peoples back yards for right now. I cant say it any simpler than that. And that is exactly why the mayor closed wrights landing....to keep people away...

From what they are saying medically, the apex will form in NY in at least two weeks most likely longer. To me I view that apex as say the fourth quarter of a football game meaning were really going to have to bunker down then and put this virus to sleep....Other states are starting to get more cases each day. Its going to take and effort from all of us.

Basically we can all go fishing no problem they just want it solitary for now. If you own a boat and a buddy wants to go and you can stay six feet apart were good.....Charters are non essential obviously but that will clear up soon...We all just need to be patient for now and do the best we all can. If your boat is held in a marina for personal use you should be fine and good to go....The DEC just wants us to keep the six foot distance at all times. The DEC does want us to fish, we just need that six foot distance.

Just for the record....I received this DEC order from a fellow boater who passed it onto a bunch of us....This came out yesterday. PLEASE DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER...I was going to paste the whole email response but the images screw up the post. I have the original. This is no april fools joke sorry... Response to COVID-19: A Message to Fishing Charters, Guides and Anglers Fishing Safely This Season Charters and Guides The "New York State on PAUSE" Executive Order, a 10-point policy to assure uniform safety for everyone during the COVID-19 response, includes a directive that all non-essential businesses statewide must close effective at 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, and temporarily bans all non-essential gatherings of individuals of any size for any reason. At this time, fishing guides or charters of any size have been determined to be not essential and are subject to workforce reduction requirements of the Executive Order. The full and updated guidance on which types of businesses are determined essential and other designations associated with the order can be found online.

Well I made a post on another thread about how long will it take. Idk......I do several events during the Summer and Fall and I really dont see how they will be pulling those off....Its too early to cancel them right now but I dont see how this can all clear up to the point that standard life is reached by Summer. Im trying to be realistic to myself lol.

What I find interesting in all this is nobody really talks about the "Moral" value. Sure we can discuss the liability, financial loss, my clients, my money, sole proprietor , exception, non exception but lets discuss the Moral side for a minute. 99% of you charter captains do not charter in your own back yard. Many trailer their boats. Your customer base is mostly made of clients outside the south shore areas. This I know from being in the marina business and former six pack captain for 4 decades. Your basically bringing in people from outside our areas who you truly do not know their personal lifestyles and really are putting communities who may not have a high infection rate at risk. This is a time that everyone is being asked to stay home and give things up for now. I have lost money and work due to this. Im also giving up something very personal in my life right now that goes way beyond the immortal life of the salmon fisherman. For moral reasons we all need to stay home for now best we can. This may not be a popular statement amongst the boys I get it!. But dont worry, this time next year you will all be back at it ..For now fish from shore alone, in your own streams and rivers, if you live on the lake like I do, keep it solitary for now......Its a moral issue at this point.

Well Onondaga county (Which includes Syracuse) has a total of 194 cases...that makes sense due to population levels. But what is alarming is how it is spread among st the municipalities within the county. The data is all there....If you know those population levels around here like I do its very even across the board the amount of people with confirmed cases.....What im saying in a nice way is no matter how you get to the south shore of LO in our area many will most likely pass either thru or around Syracuse. Tompkins county below Onondaga includes Binghamton area which has almost 60 cases and growing. Thats a Bline of rt 81N.... I agree the cats been outta the bag....The good news is no travel ban between the states like they were talking yesterday. I guess the Donald backed down lol....

As of today there is really nothing to stop anyone from going fishing or going to a state park. Its perfectly fine as long as you keep a six foot distance at all times. However as the season truly approaches ie: the boating season, if this does not slow down OR issues are created then you will see further restrictions...Keep in mind this is truly unprecedented territory everyone is in. I live in Fair Haven. Our state park is closed and yes they did cancel all pending reservations because they want to avoid crowds over 50 people. Sure. your ok, been staying at home but if everyone who wants to come up here does then you have a recreational crowd...if that makes sense. True people in these small shoreline towns have had a terrible past 3 years with floods and all. But we also dont want a low spot to become a hot spot and unfortunately our customer base (fisherman) come from way outside our region and in many cases other neighboring states so there is that contamination factor nobody wants... The big issue is with the charter captains. Personally I consider them the same as a cruise ship. People packed together for a specific period of time.....If they attempt to run their businesses up here not only will that be disrespectful but also will probably force the govt to make them disband immediately...Again there is a six foot distance rule here. I dont know of too many charter boats that can have 5 clients, one crew and of course sig hansen himself and all be six feet apart at all times.....not to mention sanitary situations like everyone touching the same rods reels boat etc....And yes I was a charter captain decades ago so I understand what is at stake.... The bottom line...fish by yourself and you will be fine stay six feet apart and hope for the best.
