IMO I don't think it matters nearly as much to the fish as it does to the fly manufactures, outdoor writers and fishermen......in that order!!!

I know what you are saying, been seeing the same thing. Several boats here at the oak are saving carcasses for the DEC. Next time I see the tech I will ask him how many chips he is finding in the unclipped fish. Each stocked fish should have a clip and a chip, I have been told that some fins are missed. It will be interested to see how many unclipped have a chip and how many clipped are missing chips.

Wanted to start a discussion about what guys that are using it think about this brand of copper. After loosing 900' of my old copper in one weekend, I ordered a spool to give it a try, as soon as it arrives I am planning on spooling it up and fishing it.

This month on the Salmo salar: 1 atlantic July 2 2 coho July 7 & 11 I have heard reports of AS being caught at the oak almost every day I have fished this month. The reason we are not getting many is most likely because we are not targeting them right now. I know that I have been targeting kings or browns. I have not been running many sliders, almost no reds and have been fishing the bottom in 40 - 100fow. In my limited exerience most of my AS have been caught high and on red in this water and Cohos are usually offshore this time of year out of my port. Either will hit any lure, but both seem to prefer reds in 55 degree water. Last year our largest AS was caught July 13, (on a flasher fly) I also think that may have been the last one we caught that year although my buddy caught a big on the first week of August. Most are stocked on the north shore and most likely spend most of their time up there once the lake warms up in May.

PM sent I have actually experienced all that Ray mentioned in just 4 hours of fishing with him!! So much fun that I rank having Ray on your boat right up there with visits to the Dentist, Proctologist or my Mother-in-Law!!! You start the day fealing fine and when your day ends you wonder how you ever got got by with all that's wrong with you. Fishing with Tom on the other hand is detrimental to the diet, to much sugar, fat and way to many LAKERS!!!!

I've got to ask: Did you re-dial the dipsys or just switch sides on the boat? Cool report!! Good job to get out at 6:30 and put a pair of dandys in the boat!!

Fleas are not attracted to one type of line any more than they are to another, rather it is the diameter of the line that will affect the amount of fleas that attach to your line. The best results are achieved with using a larger diameter smooth line (Big Game 30#) or an out of round line (Flea flicker) thus increasing the distance that the "tail" of the flea must wrap around in order to attach. In most cases the fleas picked up are dead and simply are snagged by the line, you can determine this by the color of the flea, clear to slightly yellow = living, grey or brown = dead. It seems the living ones come off eaiser then the dead ones. Using 50# braid for dipsys is very do-able and is only slightly worse than wire based on my limited exerience. That said, I have seen fleas so thick that they gather on rigger cables enough to stop the rigger, when they are that thick line diameter matters little!! I can only remember this happening once and had something to do with a drastic temp/current break that was indicated by a slick on a very calm day.

I second (or third) this knot. It is great for leadcore, super easy and very small, use it for both sides of the core, power pro and mono. Google it if you don't know how to tie it, Paul and Bud should be able to show you as well.

In my limited experience with flashers & flies I have found that you cannot go wrong with white double glow, yellow (chart) double glow pulling blue or green flys respectively. After that get what ever you want making sure at least on is a silver based. For double glow echips just put a piece of crushed glow tape over the sliver tape, a pro once showed me that one!!!

Check the classifieds below for used as well. If going with the manuals you want the maximum feet retreived per turn, so research that. I don't know how much I would like the horizontal crank of the scotty so this may be the only case where I would go with cannon. Oh, you also want clutch down and crank up, not crank up and down!!

I don't think it is much of a mystery. It is widely accepted that the flasher puts out a large amount of flash representing a small school of bait and the fly is simply an outlier bait fish. This is consistent with the environmental physiology of all predatory fish and how they work a school of bait, targeting the odd fish out. It is also why you will get fish to hit the flasher as it is also part of their feeding behavior to slam into a school of bait for the purpose of breaking it up then make a quick turn to try and catch any stunned or confused bait that are slow to rejoin the school. This is also why you will occasionaly snag a king between the dorsal and adipose fin with your fly, pull the flasher to the mouth of the fish and you will see that it is obvious that he took a swipe at the flasher. The reason a spin dr looks like a fish is to simply catch fishermen. This does not mean that a fish wouldn't hit the fly out of a competitive instinct as well as stated in the original post. There is no doubt that the impulse the flasher puts into the water can attract fish as well as the lateral line is very sensitive to location of items in the water. Good fishing is when you piss off the fish and they bite. Great fishing is when the fish are hungry and bite!!!

Great report! Thanks for draggin Tim in, he's too nice a guy to be adrift for very long. You have to look long and hard for better big game fishing than right here on the southern shore of LO!!

If you want to target them you need 2 things: 58 degree water bait in 58 degree water If you want all bows follow Tim's advice ( important point -- especially if you are getting LTs but want RTs) and don't be afraid to kick up the speed. Target the 58 degree water with all the methods mentioned above to maximize your productivity. Use the GPS and circle the bait!! My favorite: Moonshine Geezer on the side rigger 8' lead set 10' above the rigger running in 54 degree water.

30# will do just fine and is essential if there is traffic, you can tighten down and yank them in!!
