Pap, I had the Elite 5 and loved it, saw they came out with the elite 7 and had to have it. Poor 5 is now on the front of my brothers ranger getting pounded and I ended up buying the 7. During this past fall though, I noticed that while running down the lake, the sensitivity would be jacked on the screen when I started trolling, to the point where I had to go back in the menu and reset it to get it to clear. I ended up sending it back, they sent me a new one no charge. Haven't tried it yet so I'll have to keep you posted. I'm a big Lowrance fan from day 1. They always seem to do right by me. I love the screen. Hope it helps

Eric, something I did to mine was to take the wire off and install a new one (outdoor electrical cord) so that it was longer and had the plug in the end. I have outlets in the back of my hull for them. Might keep your price down not sure what cannon charges for the replacement wire. It was simple and easy. Just a suggestion. Just remember not to lose track of the pos and neg leads. You will smoke the circuit board if you get it wrong.

Les, I think your right. Fingerlakes has specific regs on bait and the collection there of with dip nets only. I am not familiar with commercial bait license though. The other thing lots of people tend to forget is having to use them on the water you collected them at if there alive otherwise you fall into having to get them tested. Yikes now I know why there 10 bucks a doz. Cast nets at night will work for saw bellys but so would a 5 hp generator with a wand standing in Catherine's in March for trout. Just can't do it from my understanding.

Started out this am with the annual family post Xmas tradition and hit the blind for ducks. Weather was good, slight south roll, cloudy with lots of flying early on. Not a ton of shooting heard but with the home made venison sausage, pancakes on the grill, and the " wait a minute, hold the spatula while the birds get poofed" I thought to myself you can beat this. Kids had a ball with my youngest having his trifecta this year with his first Salmon, deer, and duck hunt. I think he wants a Red Head mounted. Pretty bird.

Setting up for a copper rig
Frogger replied to Frogger's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Broke, do you run it off the back on the backing then or do you run it on a float behind the boat? -
Looking for some info on loggy tree stands

I'm thinking you already tried EBay? I was in a similar boat but broke down and went with a LoneWolf climber. Not really sure about the rubber but always thought you could make a band out of spring steel. -

Setting up for a copper rig

Thanks Les and everyone for your input, If you had to choose copper or Leadcore which one would you go with in making up? -
Ok, so Xmas is by us, have the gift cards and want to set up a copper rig. Maybe 2. One like for 400ft and the other 500ft? Not really familiar with the set up in regards to reel/rod. I see a lot of comments on drag issues etc so I want it to be right from the start. Also I'll probably run it down the chute. I do have planers but not sure if they will work or hold it up with all of the talk about the otter boards and extensions needed. Mine are the BigJohn boards. Also what would you suggest for lb copper and braid backing? I want to give this method a try for both Seneca and LO but want to make sure Copper vs Lead Core is the way to go. Thanks for any help.

Ill go out on a limb but its been a few years from when I did a thesis on the St Lawrence and the Welland. The theory is correct and if I remember right, also the main reasons as to why the Chinook had to be stocked in Lake Ontario. Some other inland lakes were purposefully stocked with Alewives but cant rememebr the reasons for it. Ontherise hit the bullseye on the landlock issue, they have some enzyme that can affect the the larval stage of trout and salmon, heck I think they named it after Cayuga Lake but Id have to check. Maybe others can chime in, my fisheries brain has turned into how fast and what color spin docter to use lol.

From what I learned back in the day is the spurs can generally tell you whether it's a Juvie or an adult however late fall the Juvie spurs almost match the adult. Then the tail feather length and weight can be used. In general though you can only really tell a Juvie from an adult out in the field. Not the # of years old but then again someone who hunts the Dakotas sure has seen more pheasants than us nyers by far so I wouldn't put a he's wrong about the age. It's a nice bird. -
