Nick, have a safe trip up this weekend, cool videos as always. Question for you or anyone that would like to chime in, when looking at the current water temperature transects, ( http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/glcfs.php?lake=o&ext=vwt&type=N&hr=00 it seems the water towards the west is cooler closer into shore or does it show you still have to get out to 500+feet to get to the colder water?

Suggestion would be to target the marks, cant go wrong with that, throw a spoon out too, try glow, black as well. Might have some currents from the blow this past week, might have to move around with speed, you might be fighting some currents and not realize it. -

Do you have a down temp? -
Capt, unless its 20mph + north you would be fine on Seneca staying up towards the North end. Stay on the west side towards Roy's Marina just down from the Castle on the hill.

I have no sided interests with this tournament but being I've always wanted to try and get in these but choose not to due to the amount of money with only have a GLS 19fter and a 80 percent chance of having rough seas I wanted to give an opinion. I may be wrong but I don't remember hearing a small craft advisory yesterday. If there was, then based on the rules they should of post phoned it till Sunday. That's what I think it says, went to confirm but it won't let me open the web page. With that said, if there wasn't then I think the boats that paid that couldn't get out lost out on their own with the risk you should of known about or realized when you signed up. In case you realized more than half of this fleet are made up of the big boys that fish 6fters with their eyes closed. The officials are not going to change things when if fact the these guys would still go out. My suggestion would be is to have the invites go right up to the week/day it starts. Pay the extra 50 bucks knowing what the lake conditions are going to be instead of risking 800. Or have a hidden ballot vote from all captains in the tourny the morning of,75% agreement for post phone and its done. something like that. Last note on safety, no one from a derby official puts you in a dangerous situation, you do. Sorry for the opinions but that's all they are. I'm sure there will be more on this to come.

What's your favorite sonar/GPS?
Frogger replied to markmonkey1's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Got an Elite 5 last year, loved it, then Lowrance came out with the 7inch Elite. Bought that this year. Love it even more with the wider screen. Dont have the HDI, dont need it. If you use the GPS plotter as much as i do, go with the wider screen. -

Richard, great idea! My loss to Davey, a February am going after seneca gold, in a brothers Ranger, yea, eyes watering, going down the lake, maybe 20 degrees, felt something fly by me, what was that? 2 of my buddies perch rods that I didn't latch down on the bow, when we get to our spot, realize rods were gone! Still think about them when I'm pulling wire there in the spring. -

Just a small side it on the crossbow vs compound speed, energy debate. Compounds can be faster than the average crossbow, however newer models like the Barnett that shoot 400fps are with a 400 grain bolt/broad head total weight. Now if you did the math on kinetic energy that would be 142 ft lbs out of the shoot. Compounds can't do that. In fact if you ramped your draw weight up to a crazy 80 lbs on a coumpound and shot 6 grains per inch on an arrow which is like damn near redline line you wouldn't reach a 100ft lbs. So yes you can make a compound shoot faster by shooting a tooth pick, high crazy poundage and probably couldn't consistently hit the mark at 30 yards but off the shelf the crossbow is faster, flatter and has more energy than the off the shelf compound.

My intent wasn't to start this crossbow debate all over again lol. Was just wanting to hear if there were any updates on the new bill that passed the senate this passed June. I always get a kick out of this debate. A lot of people seem to lose the message that hunting is slowly diminishing with interest by how the avg age is creeping upwards annually. With that said how do we get younger adults involved? As far as the crossbow being too easy, yep it's easier to hit the mark than a compound. Will that make the traditional archer switch to a crossbow? Nope. His intent is not for ease but for the challenge that goes along with it. Last time I checked the bill doesn't prevent anyone from having to change or forced to go to crossbow. Now it comes down to "but your taking my deer with something thats easier than I'm using for that particular season". Please, if this were the big issue someone should try and post the nuisance permits that are being handed out right and left to hunters, not farmers on land that is not open to anyone but the landowners buddies. We still have deer issues in certain areas. Now for NY's deer management program, I'm sure Huntin guy could tell you the monsters that are in Ohio. There hunting season and regulations are built around making quality deer. This includes crossbow. They have a longer season, more record deer are harvested each season and yet NY can't seem to get it. your allowed one buck, take it however you want, shotgun, bow, crossbow, but your allowed only one. If i had more time id be hunting in Ohio fulltime. The Ohio DNR truly has it going on. Before you take a stance on the issue you should really take a few minutes and read about Ohios deer program and ask yourself if what were debating is the true issue.
