  12. Dont let the other day get to you and start questioning things, unless theres something really wrong with your setup, and from the looks of things, youve got it going on and know your sh.... about archery and setting up your hunts etc, Personally I would stay with the Slick tricks, at least for this season, you dont want to be second guessing a new broadhead and sighting it in etc. Ive killed some deer with these things, paint buckets being thrown down everywhere when its solid, and a couple of times a little work was involved, rain etc. Everyone has there favorites though so be prepared for a number of different types. Its the one that you feel most comforatble with.

  15. As you said Chas, lots of good points, I like steelmans input as well and a bunch of others. I think thats whats different with Ohios "one" buck and your done ( for antlered deer) theory vs the antler restrictions. It minimizes the arguement that hunters that prefer to shoot any age class deer for meat should be able to, with the one buck rule, if you want to shoot that basket rack go right ahead. Once you do though, your done for bucks that year, now its only does that you can go after. The problem is and not a lot of people want to step up and agree that were sometimes greedy and dont want to settle for only one buck in a season. We dilute the issue by saying "tropy bucks" management isnt what we need because id rather feed my family. Well, go ahead, and take your yearling buck and several does to do it and no one should question it. For those hunters that say they can put one slug in and go out and spend the 5 minutes in the woods to get their deer, it shouldnt be that hard to mange that now should it?. And thats I think what Ohio and some other states have figured out. Thats the biggest hill we need to get over. If we can do that, its a huge win.
  16. Chas, I get what your saying, now a days to actually break down your costs, in the end, on average, hunting deer may not be your best financial sense in a way of feeding your family. Unless your not paying tag fees, etc, in the end you could be looking at 2-3.00 a lb of cost (1 deer) and thats if you butcher it yourself with no added pork butt costs. Obviously that cost goes down the more deer you shoot, but your own time ways in to the cost now. In the end it ends up being a tradition, family values, sport that usually wins on why we do it. To say that we do it to feed the family, its a hard sell with what it actually costs when you look at the total picture.
  17. I wont chirp too much about the need for a better deer mgt program, but I would second the Ohio reference. Top notch deer mgt program. Its not just about the region, or the fact that they have more agriculture, or because of the gene pool in the mid west.... Its about what they have done to control it. Take a look if you get a chance at the Ohio rules regs for deer hunting, everything from seasons to hunting hours are different. Its a different culture over there. Just hard to explain. Wish we could adopt some of that here. But I realize its a big step. I dont think the antler restriction is the way to go IMHO, I would recommend the one buck and your done rule. Either bow, Cross bow, muzzle, shotgun, you get only one buck. Shoot as many does as you are allowed in that unit. 1,2 or 5. Also lengthen the second season bow muzzle for does. I will bet a mtn dew youll see 120's -130's running every where in 3yrs. Heck In 5yrs NYS would be a ranked P&Y / B&C state. Just an opinion though.
  18. I like the tuna! Steelhead have 10-12 anal rays where the Kings have 13-19, this one has the latter, puts it as a king all the way. Sent from my iPad using Lake Ontario United

  20. Id say I would first want to know what's causing the failures before I re power. Would hate to invest another 4 grand in a rebuild and find out after that blew you had a gas or oil problem. Just my two cents. Hope everything works out. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  21. Grady, Vanish has not stood up to normal abrasions in my experience when catching fish. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  22. V, I agree with Dan, steel on an aluminum might not be good. Regarding the rivers, I used the same on a transom project. Seemed easy and fitted great. Only thing worries me is the amount you have to do. If you can get to both sides of a rivet then you may want to use standard ones with a Gluvit system for dealing. Either way good luck with the project. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  23. Too funny. Ya had me scrambling looking at dates cause of vacation I planned for that week. No biggie Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United
  24. All good stuff, with jumping on the band wagon for the thinner Flouro line ( not Vansish lol)and trying to get the dipseys deeper with longer leads to the spoons. One thing, not sure if this had been mentioned already, is the speed, you might want to try a little slower with lighter type spoons for the deep fish (lakers) like 1.8 -2.2 and faster type (heavier) spoons 2.2 -3.0 for the faster speeds (Bows and locks). Currents are all over with Seneca and as suggested weaving in and out or changing it up going east and west might indicate a better catch rate. And one other thing, we have all heard it before, dont leave fish to catch fish, if your marking them, stay close, something should trigger. Then again we have all had those days where ya feel like golfing.....
  25. Way to go Chas!
