A few weeks ago I ordered and received my lures. And one of them had a slight bend in the back end I took a picture and emailed to to the sales department. I knew It is a busy time so I didn't bother to follow up yet and today when I got home there was a package waiting for me. It had a new lure in it for me with a bonus lure. Which was not required but a very nice suprise... The most amazing thing was they took the time to write a hand written note. Wow what a suprise. Great to see actual people building things locally and taking such pride. Thanks James keep up the good work

I just order some to try this spring can't give you advice on size and colour. I can say that I went in the site on Friday and saw they had bt candy in stock. So Saturday when I had time I placed my order unfortunately they were listed as sold out. I placed order minus 1, then yesterday I saw that they were back in stock. All I can say is if it's not in stock give it a day or two and check again it maybe available. Can't to get them fishing and see how they do

I was thinking about using some marine plywood that I had laying around. Until I came across a nice piece of stainless

Pap I agree that with a 3/8 plate I am not bending it with 3/8 cariage bolts that hold the bracket in place. I will use the extra large washers on the back of the plate. Thanks again

So I am going to be making some backing plates for my kicker motor bracket. My question is the surface on the inside of my hull is not a smooth finish with highs and lows. I was planning on going with a piece of 3/8 stainless because that's what I have laying around. But if the surface isn't smooth and the fact that the plate will have little to no flex in can this be an issue? Would I be better off to cut individual squares because of the surface finish? My plan was to bridge the two bolts vertically on each side of the bracket. I figured two long plates would work best. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 958 and it works well with the stock transducer. It doesn't mark well on plane with the stock transducer but while trolling have only noticed a few glitches. Most likely resolved with the newer software. It's simple to operate and seems to mark bait and fish well. I like the unit enough that I am thinking of upgrading the transducer to an airmar. I have only had it for two seasons but has not let me down yet and entering way points and cataloging and deleting tracks is easy. I do notice that the quick buttons on the side for switching between your presets can be a little finicky. But all together a good unit for the price. -
Sounds like it should hold up nicely. Thanks guys

Good to hear that's what I was hoping. Thanks for the info

I got a troll master that I will be installing this winter on my boat. My question is do you guys run your wires up to the helm and leave the controller on your boat all winter. Or do you run it some were to remove it and the wires every winter? Usually I pull all my electonics off the boat for the winter but this doesn't appear to be an easy option with the troll master.

The one I bought used with upgraded drag. The second I did because I got the kit for Christmas last year. The stock drag preformed perfect for one season. But I have heard that people have run into issues with the stock drag. I imagine that the saltist would work excellent. But I have never used one so I am not sure.

I just picked up a new to me mr3. What do you guys use as far as grease and oil? Do you use graphite powder with the oil on the cork drag as recommended by islander? Any tips on keeping this reel running smooth would be greatly appreciated.

This upcoming spring looks so busy for me I bet I won't hit the water till August... so I am sure it will be the best spring fishing in years.

If you get a lip grip like the boga or another similar style and attach it to a rope. When you chatch a fish grip it by the lower jaw and tie the other end off to a cleat. After trolling for a while you will see the fish right it's self some times you have to hold the tail to assist or slow your troll a little. But with a little patience you can revive almost all the fish you chatch.

No worries the colour difference is very clear often you will see a line when clear water meets the coloured water. And the visibility decreases considerably you will know it when when you see it. Short cores that I started using this spring were 2 and 3 colour lead core. I bought a full 300 feet 10 colour and made a 2,3, and 5 colour setup for different depths. In the spring I definitely notice slower speeds to be more effective and as the water warms you can usually speed up your troll. Once you find a speed they like for the day it's important to try to keep that Constant if possible. It's a lot to learn out there I am still new to this too next year will be season 5 and every year you learn a little more. There is a lot of great info on this site and if you read over some old post you will find a ton of great information.

Spring time port dalhousie and jordan station. You can find browns as early as March if the weather is good. Stay in tight to shore with planners stick baits on the long lines and spoons on the riggers and short cores can produce. For the salmon... well they can be hard to find so look for green water and bait. They can be I 20 feet or 100 feet in the spring but usually if you can find good colour and bait salmon will be around. This spring I stayed inside of 100 feet till July and found salmon. Nothing huge but some good fish.

I use a boga style grip on a rope. Sometimes it takes a little extra help to hold the fish in a good position. But usually you set them in the water maybe slow your troll a little reset your line and the fish is good to go. You will still have the odd fish that will not revive but they are defiantly the expectations. Temperature and depth do play a role in how long it takes to bring them back and how likely they are to survive but it does work well

Writing Down Information on Salmon Catches
tlr426 replied to KilliansRed's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I keep a log too. Not sure yet if if helps me catch fish. But I know over the winter it's nice to look through and plan for next spring. I have a small sample size of lake ontario fishing so I can't really tell of it works yet. But anything that helps you build a pattern to chatch fish is a good thing. I am sure it takes many years to develop a pattern I have fished 4 years and every year is different. I hope in the next few years building a book with my success and failure in it will help me be a better salmon fisherman. . . If not I at least passed the time when they aren't bitting.
