Had a really cool morning hunt yesterday. Caught this old girl settling into a small patch of Goldenrod. After a stalk and a fawn blatt she stood up and gave me a shot. I have been lucky to be able to harvest some nice deer in my time but this girl is one of my favorites. Weight, 135lbs, she had a broken leg that had healed and her teeth were almost totally gone. Guessing 6 1/2- 8 1/2 yrs old. The matriarch is down! As I went to retrieve her I almost stepped on her fawn, she taught many of those little ones well I tip my hat to her life, I give her my respect... I agree with you in my experience the scum line is usually current running north. If there are weeds they will be in those. I think that the water is a bit more oxygenated in those slicks. In the spring the mud lines show current direction very well and I like to fish the edges then too. Next time out this winter I am going to try a large spoon or stick to mimic a stocker sized brown. I knew an older guy that had pics of huge browns he caught with 6" stick baits in the middle of the winter on Cayuga. Gonna give it a try.... again, nice report thanks. Well good karma rained on me today. Got a buddy that has cancer and he shot a doe Sunday. I cut it up for him today, while I was cleaning the grinder I kept checking the windows, sure enough at 11:30 I had a mature busted up 9 trolling out my back window. Had the 270 close and went out to head him off. He caught me and I had a 200 yd off hand shot that met him high in the front shoulder dropping him on the spot. Not a really big rack but a very long nose, big body, and huge split toes! Happy to put a tag on him! Btw stopped into drop of his meat and he just got out of his third week of chemo, he's doing great! Thoughts and prayers for him would be appreciated, good luck out there folks! They could stay the camp I work at lions camp badger it's about 25 minutes from Lansing. We would have to reserve the weekend well ahead of time. We are very inexpensive we have a lake house that is year round or we have cabins that could house up to 100 people ( rustic) . http://www.lionscb.org Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Lockdown is on! gotta get lucky and find one finishing up with doe A and going to find doe B! They have torn up and stunk up two of my favorite hole up areas. I need patience on a stand! gets tough seeing nothing and knowing they could be 80 yds away and you never know it. Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Wow Les how do you handle guys like that? Law? Turn em in, ask to take a pic of their "awesome" haul and give it to DEC. Without DEC officers patrolling we have little chance but with our new phones maybe it can make a difference. Frustrating sorry man! Sent from my C771 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
