Long shot here, I found a large dead buck yesterday on state land in 7r. If you can tell me location and give me a general description he was shot, early bow season. I'd like to get him back to the hunter that shot him.. Sent from my SM-N975U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
Hit back, typically a mile kick is a little behind lungs, could be a good shot but that's the typical hit. Where you located?? Sent from my SM-N975U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
It's been a crazy run 20 tracks so far this year. It's very different then most think. He doesn't necessarily stay right on top of blood, he "cones " and uses the air currents to find them. It may seem like he's way off but if the scent goes cold he will self correct and go back to the last blood. It's very difficult with other bucks or deer in the area but we can weed thru them pretty quickly. If you want to follow have your trucking boots on. Mostly he's going slow till he hits a fresh track that no one has been on then its go time! Reading him has been so much fun! That's the basics but really it's about reading and trusting your dog. We have really bonded this year. If y'all hit one bad and have access to a dog limit grid searching and I only like max 2 people to come along basically to keep blood tracking like weren't there. I'll pull you up the track if I confirm blood. We've gone well over a mile still confirming blood. The live ones that are still bleeding we go for a serious hike.. Good luck out there ! For a tracking dog and all around pet i love my Blue lacy from Texas. I was off with for his first 6 months of training n overall discipline teaching. I had to socialize him mostly, basically I become alpha dog and he had a streak in him that was quoted by an unknown person as being "part barbed wire and wolverine." But truly I love this dog more than any other I've had. He fishes with us too. Sent from my SM-N975U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
Sorry. I've had 4 tracks in 4 days and working overnight. I'm gonna try to do as many as possible this year Sent from my SM-N975U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
Zed has really been doing a great job this year 15 tracks to date. For a first year pup I'm really impressed. This buck went 789 yards with very little to no blood. Found the arrow in 600yds confirming we were on it. It took him 30 minutes to complete. Shot was quartered away thru front of back leg into guts n liver. Yes I believe it was bumped by coyotes the dog was bristled up and could smell them. It back tracked on itself too. Also when he found the deer he was air checking and growling.. they were close by. The lack of blood for the dog is relevant but he tracks on more than just blood. The one huge advantage of the dog is to extend the blood trail. I like to have one person stay on the blood and we move that person up each time we confirm blood but still have them actively looking. Thus we can always go back to last blood if the dog is distracted by a live deer. Also i use the on-x app to aid with this if i only have one person. Good job on your track BTW Sent from my SM-N975U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
Zed found a nice buck today. 1.04 miles track. Shot looked good, still not sure how he went so far, got a lung and lots of liver. They are tough animals. Sent from my SM-N975U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
That was a great day! That's the great part of tracking getting to meet great guys n gals that just want to accomplish the seemingly impossible. At the least we give some closure to the question wounded or dead. Sent from my SM-N975U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
Thx, we are a free service if I'm available I'll try to help. Just love working with the dog. Little background on him he's the Texas state dog and a mix of and English blue collie, grey hound and coyote. They use them to run hogs, coyote, and track deer. They also have great herding instincts. Check him out on FB Deer tracking dog :Zeddy Wild Sent from my SM-N975U using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I have been a land owner for 18 years. The first year I went around and talked to neighbors and to whom ever was on the property. I approached them in a professional way saying that the property they had permission on was now off limits because of our new ownership and for safety sake I couldn't let them hunt there. I've never posted the lines with the ugly yellow signs. Since then I've only had one trespasser. I believe that we as hunters should be on the same page, whatever you can do to be a better neighbor do it. Whatever you can do to make hunters look good to non hunters, do it. NY taxes suck. I understand why the guy posted his signs. The way he handled it without giving any respect to other hunters maybe wasn't the best solution, well I hope he dosen't have to track a deer onto his neighbors. I don't know the % of coyote if any or if it was (grey wolf) theory... The breed isn't recognized by any organization but here is a copied piece from Wikipedia. It would be interesting to do a DNA analysis but I can tell you this dog is way more intense than any I have had before. He cones very fast and in large semi circles. Which I'll take away from him with a leash. It'll be interesting reading him.. can't wait to do a real blood trail.. Sent from my SM-N975U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
