Any input would be much appreciated… I have a 50hp outboard on my 16 ft. Spectrum and have been fishing on Seneca now for about 6 years, mainly for trout. I’ve used manual downriggers, Seth Green rig’s and in-line planer boards over the years. I’ve put a lot of trolling miles in and have never had much luck. I’ve tried a bunch of different lures, Sutton’s, trolling flies, Alpino Diamonds, etc…. I’ve finally come to the conclusion that my motor may be the problem. My main 50hp outboard idles right down to a slow crawl – but I think the vibration/noise may be spooking a lot of fish. I’ve trolled like this since I’ve owned the boat – and again, never had much luck. I’ve learned a lot reading this forum through the past few years and I know people are more than happy about providing input to questions asked. So, my question is this….. Do I have a legitimate worry about trolling with my 50hp Force? Is this spooking fish? Do other’s troll with their main motor and have luck? Should I be investing in a small kicker to improve catch rate? Or, am I just a novice who hasn’t “gotten it†yet? All feedback appreciated – again, thank you…..

Bringing back an old post here... Hopefully someone can help with this. If the fish is on the bottom leader and your hand-lining every leader into the boat without un-clipping, doesn't it cause a piled up mess on the boat floor? My Seth Green is rigged up to snap the leader onto beads every 10ft, which dictates that you have to unsnap the leaders off the rig to wind up the rest of the line into the reel to get to the next leader..... My Rig does catch fish, but it is a pain to unsnap every leader (5 total).

I would like to say thank you to fisherman on this site. The knowledge and willingness to share is like nothing I’ve seen. I keep my boat up in Seneca county and live in Corning. I have fished Seneca Lake a long time but just recently (Last 5 yrs) got into trolling (Only on Seneca & Cayuga). I have (2) manual downriggers, a Seth Green rig, Diver rods with ppro braid (only use early b4 fleas) and this yr trying for the 1st time a few off shore inline boards. I’ll be slipping at 55 - Sampson for the Derby this weekend . I’ve had a rough time boating many fish the past few years, but it’s not from a lack of trying. Hoping to make it out more this year and use some of the tips from the forums. I have learned a lot from this site and hope I can give a little back someday after I figure out how to boat fish consistently myself. Thanks again, Jake Hayes
