I am not a boat motor mechanic but I can asure you the kids are not turned off. They do not look at these things like we do.("a little pissed") They are very forgiving and will be wicked ready to do that trip again once you get your stuff figured out. My engine needs more choking than I ever thought It would. Also you may want to check a fuel filter or spark plugs..anywho I know allot more about kids than boat motors so I will leave the rest to the pros! Good Luck. Oh make sure you run non ethanol gas and a good name brand oil...it makes a huge difference!

Splash down bout 6 am.... Very slow bite had a couple misses then a Bit later landed a nice salmon ....something's gotta give so I got the wire dipsy out... Nothin for awhile then. zzzziiiiiiinnnnngggg. the drag starts screaming....this thing feels nice and she's a fighter....took my time bringing her in... Bout 15 minutes later I see that I had hooked myself a beauty... In the net!!! Nice laker a whisker under 11 pounds!!! Wire dipsy out 245 on a 2.5! Mountain Dew crush spinny with a big weenie reel hooked up fly.. Hey Les, as soon as I figure this phone out I will post some pics!

Splash down a bit later about 6:00am...as soon as I got the second rigger down the first one popped. Salmon in the net. Trolled for a half hour or so...same rod fired...missed him.....an hour or so later I was putting an inline board on when...wham the same rod fired...by the time I found a place to throw the board and rod the nice long fish was airborne and spit the hook. Fished a little more and another miss...ran back up the lake out a bit deeper and landed a 3lb bow...called it a day. Thermocline is back down where it should be. Fleas are coming on strong and weed mats the size of boats are headin south. DWSS green gater and Stinger ice frog did the damage today. Fished 55 and 45 down over 160 to 300 with sliders. 6 color core did nothing.

Nice deal Harvey!!! -
Splash down about 5:15am...found temperature 20 feet above where it was 2 days ago.(south wind has been a blowin) About 45 minutes later the 30' rigger pops,,,,,nice 4lb bow in the net. Put that back down and for some crazy reason I decide to put sliders on 30 and 40 foot riggers!! Well a little while later my 40' rigger pops and the rod slams right down close to the water. Holy crap this has gotta be a nice one...begin to see the fish....wait a minute did I just see another one...what the....... a landlock double!!! Continue fishing and miss something on a slider...rod was shakin... thought it was sea weed sliding down but it ended up being a fish and my blacks release was a bit to tight for slider action I guess. Fish a bit more and bam....another nice Landlock on a slider!!! Off the water by 8am. I have gotten a triple on the Seth Greene before but this was allot more fun. Bow was taken 30/160 on dwss green gater.....double was 36 and 18/160 on nk 28 monkey puke and stinger ice frog. Slider fish was 20/200...finger lakes tackle herganater. Seneca has been very good lately at first light!

inexpensive way to read water temps
apb replied to tlombardozzi's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
crazy idea.......stacker rod on a romer release (or cheaper model)instead of a spoon out 30 ft or so hook a thermometer to the swivel out a foot or two. Release goes just above the ball. The trick would be to jerk and reel very fast so you get a close to accurate reading ?!?!? Just thinking out loud here!!! -
Thanks guys...oh forgot to mention all fish lived happily ever after except for the laker whom I could not revive after a whole lot of effort.

With all the stories of the slow bite, weeds and fleas I almost didn't hit the water. I had repositioned my riggers the night before so I told myself I would go out for a few minutes just to see how I liked the new setup. Splash down bout 5 am. As soon as the second rigger was set the first one popped....fish on aerial style...nice 3.75 pound landlock. Put that rigger back down and cruised for a bit more when boom...that same rigger fired with a nice 4lb brown. With the weeds being a bit of a pain I left my lead core at the cottage and figured I would try a wire dipsy for some lakers. Twenty minutes later the wire dipsy rod started hammering....laker on...6 pounder. It is now that I realize if I fish all day maybe..... just maybe........ I could hit my first grand slam. I get my notes out from a few of you L.O.U. ers(you know who you are) and head for a spot where I have caught some bows before. Lower the probe rigger to exactly 55 degrees then put the other rigger 10 ft. above that one then Crank up the Honda 8 a bit(more speed)and headed right for my bow target. 20 minutes or so later....bam...whats the chances of this being a bow I ask myself...all the sudden I see my line head toward the surface and splash the aerial show began...up down left right....sure is acting like a bow.....get the net....6lb bow.. .BOOOOOLLLLLAAAAAAYYYYYYAAAAHHHHH BABY!!!!!!. First slam!!! (by 8am I might add) Had a sip of coffee fished another half hour and picked up 2 more landlocks. Off the water by 8:30 am.... Wire dipsy was out 245' on a 2.5 with a white/green dot spinny and a Seneca ghost fly. Bow was hit 55 ft down(55 degrees) over 225 with a stinger ice frog. Salmon hit a dwss green gater down 46 over 160. Brown hit the stinger ice frog 46 over 280. The other two salmon hit the dwss green gator. Fleas are present but not a pain yet. Thanks for the help guys!!!

My son and I did ok during the mid day today. Picked up a couple lakers and lost a couple using old school methods.(that's how he likes to fish) Pulled some copper and trolled a cowbell/peanut off the Seth rod. I agree with all that's said about the slow fishing , dead fish and water clarity...sure hope this is not a sign of something negative to come. Lakers were taken off the bottom in 65 f.o.w.
