  1. yeah i was wondering about the rigidity of the pvc over that long of a span. might have to use conduit instead. another thought i had was to ditch the crank up idea and simply attach some conduit or pvc to the bottom edges of the tarp on both sides to keep it rigid and straight. i could then pull the tarp up and over from inside the boat. easy enough and much more simple. i could attach rope to the tubing along the bottom edges if needed to give me something to pull on. then, bungee both bottom edges to the trailer (and around the front and back if need be).
  2. hmmm.. thanks bob.
  3. thanks jigstick, looking forward to seeing it.
  4. thanks pap. i was thinking of simply attaching the tarp to one side of the pipe. when rolling it up, it would wind one side in one direction, the other side in the other direction. kind of like an "S". that might be difficult to wind it up like that though, i don't know. i want to do this to keep the rain and debris out of there. i have a cover that covers the cockpit area, but the bow is all open (crestliner eagle walk-around cuddy). i get a fair amount of water in the bilge when it rains, i think it comes in through the seams in the bow area. plus it collects leaves and pine needles like crazy. what i really need is a big garage or barn!!
  5. i'd love to see some pics of this if that's possible. considering the same thing for my rig.
  6. thanks for that. yeah, something very similar to that type of setup. only much taller.
  7. i have an idea for a roll-up/retractable tarp setup for my boat/trailer. i want to make something that i can roll up quickly when i want to uncover it, while also easy to deploy when i cover it up. my idea so far is a tarp (obviously) attached down the center (thinking glued or screwed) to some pvc pipe running the length of the boat, supported on both ends by some sort of posts (either wood or pvc or some other material). i would like be able to somehow crank it from the ground, spinning the pvc pipe, rolling the tarp up onto/around the pvc. i don't know if it would wind up/ roll up or not.. considering the tarp would be winding onto the pipe in 2 different directions while cranking it. i borrowed this pic from todd in ny from another thread (hope you don't mind todd). picture something like this, but with posts on the ends supporting a long length of pvc, with some kind of cranking system to roll the tarp up on the pvc pipe. think something like that is doable?
  8. warmer weather? what's that...?
  9. i have a pair of scottys 1116's on my boat. they work fine, and i like them ok, but i'd rather have cannons. the one thing i do not like about the scottys is the way the cable runs down the side of the boom vs under it. with the cable on the side, it increases the chances of the line contacting the cable (happens while setting the rigger out). it scuffs the line up bad enough that i have to re-tie it. happens mostly on the port side because of the orientation of the rigger. i have to be careful how i hook that rigger up so the line doesn't contact the cable. i'd much rather have the rigger cable running underneath the boom.
  10. the guy was informing people that the guy selling it had given the previous owner a story about it being his dream boat etc. and had only paid $9500 for it. apparently this person must have known the original owner/seller, given the details. wasn't happy about an 80-something year old man being taken advantage of (in his eyes).
  11. did you get a particular size or finish?
  12. someone isn't too pleased about it... https://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/boa/d/1998-crestliner-eagle-2360/6501812763.html
  13. guy bought it to flip it i'd guess.
  14. for sale on craigslist in detroit area, with a significant increase in price. https://detroit.craigslist.org/okl/boa/d/1998-crestliner-23-eagle-1/6474754316.html
  15. tubing is all stainless.
  16. some custom bent stainless tubing...
  17. that's an option. looking at other models for reference purposes. the hard part would be keeping it clean looking and unobtrusive so it doesn't block too much visually.
  18. thanks todd.
  19. thanks, i'll do that. if i had designed this, it definitely would've had some cross bracing in the mix (along with some other stuff). just common sense. but alas, they didn't request my presence with the design team.
  20. i may end up going that route, or something similar. i'm going to try beefing up the backing plates up front first, then see how the rear mounts look, and go from there. i really don't want to add more tubing to it if i don't have to. $$$.
  21. i've had that thought as well. been trying to visualize some way of adding supplemental left/right bracing without it being too obtrusive. oh, no glass on this rig. it's all aluminum.
  22. i see what you're saying. i don't have any pics of the roof attachments, and she's still shrink wrapped for her long winter's nap. when it shakes side to side, i can see the aluminum dashboard (the black area) flex. i'm guessing that the setup itself is very top heavy, causing excessive movement in the mounts.
  23. i had a 2012 superfisherman that had tracks on it from the factory. before i used them, i made sure they were solid. i'm glad i checked... they were only screwed to the gunwales. not bolted, and no backer plates or washers. if yours came with tracks from the factory, check em first!
  24. a little closer shot of the dash mount
