  1. So I'm confused on what a slider exactly is. Obviously with a stack your running two rods and that seems simple to me. Something is confusing me here as to what a slider is and what it does. I only have one downrigger at the time being on the boat so I'm trying to get as many rods out as possible down deep. Any help or tips would be great. There are a few videos online but there still making it confusing to me as to how it is actually clipped to your line and your downrigger cable. Don't understand it or I'm missin something here

  2. Walleye has been slow! Real slow out of chaumont. Smallies are steady and with the water warming only gonna get better. Try trolling the areas around cherry island and fish guffin bay for the bass. Not many people have been doing well around chaumont as far as I know

  3. Type into google NOAA Lake Ontario wave forecasts. Click on the link, ontario map will show up click on area of fair haven twice and you will have a weekly report of the winds conditions and forecasted wave conditions. If there calling for storms you also want to be paying attention to the radar. No reason to ditch a good day of fishing just cause there's a chance of storms, many times storms bring up and go right around you just want to pay attention to that radar. Wave conditions can always change and certain winds produce bigger waves. A steady east wind will prolly give u some big waves in fair haven id imagine. Other people could give u the downlow on that tho

  4. Yea this was the shakedown run for sure. Wind was killin me couldn't keep the boat straight when setting rods up. Ran ground twice. I was wondering if I should run a flasher also off my rigger an add a stack couple feet above that as my mainline/lure line. Any tips would be awesome. I've gotta catch this fish an knock it off the list

  5. Hey thanks Alot. I was spotting bait today over 30-40 ft And marking fish anywhere from 22 ft- 35ft. I was running 60 ft leader off 4 colors and another 75 ft of line after that. Ran a few jr thundersticks with a few splitshot behind. I was able to run as slow as 1.8 hoping to pick up a laker and went up to speeds of 3.0 at times. In the am I was running spoons off the rigger and leadcore. The small Michigan stingers. Ran a penguin Off the core and an orange/copper off the rigger. Ran three a few different spoons and played with depths. Just couldn't figure it out at millsite lake. I know the core hung up twice on me when I ran into 26 ft of water

  6. I have trolled for quite some time for these little guys and I have been stumped for years. I've caught everything else trolling but I cannot figure out or find out anything about what to do an not to do. I know it's not like fishing for kings where there are thousands and I know fish after ice out with smelt imitations and such. I think what I'm getting at is specific tips to catch the eluded landlock. I only have a small 14 foot boat other wise I'd run down to Cayuga where there are more landlocked salmon. I'm running leadcore lines n 6 lb fluorocarbon leaders with spoons and also flat lining smelt imitating flies like grey ghosts. Also running. Downrigger off the back but I don't think I need to go that deep yet as the water hasn't started to thermocline quite yet up north here. Any info you've got would be awesome. Thanks alot

  7. I'm not saying where but I get kings and hos to hammer reef runners and jr- 5 rapala deep diving crankbaits. small lures not big ones. I hooked into 4 today. my dumbass was running mono today so I lost every fish. messed up thing is I caught.my first two fish of season that way on 8lb mono. well I had enough. 30 pound powerpro it is. already had one fish ruin drag on my reel. these fish are no joke. they crush lures. and I've caught them on the spoons you show above too. as far as tactics. you have to get that lure cranking deep but not moving forward to fast. good current seam is all I fish and I can catch fish all day an night and watch the guys in boats catch nothing. its kind of funny actually. but its not funny when you get broke off and lose your tackle in front of them. tomorrow is another day.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

==================== Im coming from chaumont actually but im close to watertown which is where 81 is. Directions there would be great... Im meeting there tomorrow at 5am. Cant find a address to PINE Grove launch!!! even an address would be helpful

  9. All you guys are awesome and I really appreciate all the advice. I believe the first thing Im buying is a fishfinder and Im gonna keep my eyes open for some riggers and dipsy reels. If anybody knows anyone selling some please lemme know. Also does anybody know any good charters around the sandy creek area??? Im living on chaumont bay right now but have been reading fishing is hot off sandy.

  10. and odviously a 5.5 hp motor and a trolling motor too. Ive got drift socks, just bought them. Im not sure whether I sure buy the fishfinder next or start buying gear or what. I have two cabelas downrigging reels with the line counters but no rods. I dont even know what rods to buy for these behemoth fish. It sure would be nice to buy rods that are multi-functional ( Be able to fight salmon, still catch browns and walleyes and smallies and still have a fight)... Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks alot

  11. Ive got a 20.5 ft Neptune with a evinrude 90 hp. It only has 2 rod holders off the back which straight line over stern. And thats honestly all this boat has. I have alot of work I know. Id love to have a gps/fishfinder, electronice downriggers, planer board setups and the whole bit but right now its not gonna happen. Just wondering if theres a simpler way to attempt this my first season till I get the money next year. But Ive been reading alot about these dipsy divers and wire lining. Without running downriggers, how can I get the presentation deep enough to catch some of the ol silver salmon. I plan on trying to get the boat out of chaumont bay; nearing the black river bay area once fish start staging. Any advice would be cool. Im interested in honestly paying to go on a charter and picking there brain and learning everything but for now here is a start
