Hey guys, I started trolling few months ago and lately have been very successful with catching trout. Few months ago when I started I caught few salmons, but nothing lately. I understand that this time of the year they are pretty quiet and not as aggressive as during the summer months. As I said I have no problems with catching trout. What is the best combo for use for salmon at this time? What color? What depths should I be in? What depths should I be running at? Once I followed the charter boats and they went all the way to 300 row, out of port credit, what were they fishing for? [ Post made via Android ]

My bows to you guys, thanks for the great info. [ Post made via iPhone ] -
Well, bit the bullet, got the biggest blue optima out there, let me tell you, she is heavy and big! and akward too.... Went to friends cottage for 3 days for the weekend, used the trolling motor for trolling, anchoring, etc... it got used A LOT. Battery lasted till the third day, last day it died... Weird thing happened though... When "Battery Check" on my Terrova was pressed, it would show a full charge....... ??????? We came back on sunday, around 5pm i hooked it up to my charger right away, selected COLD/AGM on it and left, in the morning i came back (8:30 am) and it was showing less than 25%, left it to sit more, around 11 came back home unplugged it and went fishing, around 5pm got back hooked it back up, about 9pm it was showing 75%... why is it like that??? does the COLD/AGM setting take longer? is it because of the size of the battery too??? I use this charger, it charges regular batteries overnight http://www.geniuschargers.com/G3500 This is the monster,

Beautiful!!!!!!! [ Post made via Android ] -
Thank you for all the replies, I think I will keep using it, it is my 'trolling only battery. I used my trolling motor few times when I was fishing in lake Ontario. It is quite convenient to be able set auto pilot(it has a gps built in) and setup downriggers wonder around the boat or simply take a leak:) im really curious how it will perform in smaller lakes. I was only getting about 1.7mph in the big O. I assume there was current + wind that made difference. I know it is not a trolling motor for such water bodies. Coming back to the battery thread, spoke to few people and they said I should be able to use it for most of the day. I doubt that the guy who owned the boat ever took care of it. Was thinking of getting a blue optima. [ Post made via Android ]

Previous owner used the boat 4 times, so i have a feeling that he simply.....let it sit none of the cells are exposed, so as you said .... Its simply loosing its charge i guess... How would a capacity test do? Like they do at auto repair centers? The place where these holes were supposed to be punched out is untoutched no marks there. [ Post made via iPhone ]

This my trolling battery, should these be full??? I can only run my 55lb terrova about an hour at full speed on auto pilot. The battery came with the boat, the previous owner did not remove them from the boat for winters. It charges fine etc, but after about an hour of trolling its at 25%. There us no marks inside the cells. [ Post made via iPhone ]

Port Credit lately....
Kuba replied to Kuba's topic in Ontario, CA Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (North Shore)
went out yesterday at port credit, didn't catch a thing!!! not even a single bite...i wondered if there was something wrong as AGAIN i was the only person trolling, there was a bunch of people sitting at both sides at the mouth..... went out today at Bronte, and caught this.... i spoke to some other guys that came in at the same time as we did, one of them caught 7, the other one 4..... i also found out that 2mph is too slow for pulling spoons, and that i should run downriggers above above fish... The picture at photobucket.com is right side up, i don;t know why its showing up like that... -

Will do! What time are you suggesting? [ Post made via iPhone ] -
Nice! Well, i'll be there Saturday 5 am weather permitting I went out tonight for few hours, CG called for 1-1.5ft waves and 20-30 knot winds. All three fish bins by the grinders were empty. There were quite a lot of people on the west side of river fishing from shore. On the way out we passed one of the charter boats and he warned us about waves after 3 hours when we came back there was only two fish carcasses. I'm assuming it was not a good day for fishing due to weather. [ Post made via Android ]

Well, after 7+ hours of trolling not a single thing. Tried all the new spoons, tried glow spoons, tried black one, purple one etc... Fished in 30-100 fow, At 30-90 depths, tried speeds from 1.5 to 3.0 mph. WTF is going on?????? I fished out of Port Credit. I got a chance to test out my new minn kota terrova with gps. Works pretty cool, tried auto pilot w/ cruise control and the anchor feature. It kept 1.5 mph speed in waves @ 1m high and 10 knot wind. Another 1500$ spent at Le Baron [ Post made via iPhone ]
