  1. I have a question about a set up I want to try and was hoping you guys could give me your opinion. I have a 20' Starcraft. I want to run two rigger rods one on each of my Mag 10's. I would like to run two dipsey's off each side, one wire and one Power Pro on each side. I was planning on putting the dipsey with Power Pro on a three setting on the outside since I suspect I will need more line out to reach the deeper water. Put the wire on the inside on a one and a half setting and keep it in at least 50' closer than the outside dipsey. Then do the same on the other side, this will allow me to get 6 rods in the water and maybe throw cheaters on the rigger rods. Am I just asking for tangles? I ran two dipsey's off each side last year wit very few problems but I am new to wire so I'm not sure if this will work the same.
  2. Thanks for the info, I will PM him. Never gave the paint question a thought, I guess I would probably paint them black but it may not be necessary.
  3. I remember reading a while back that somebody on here was making downrigger weights and shipping them in the USPS Flat Rate box. I can't seem to find the old posts. If somebody would let me know who that person was I would appreciate it, I need two 12#. Thanks.
  4. The easy steer allows you to steer from the main wheel. I always disconnect mine when I'm running on the big motor, it takes about two seconds. Remember to engage the trolling motor in reverse when you are running with the main. This keeps the prop from spinning when the trolling motor is not in use (just something my dealer told me to do). If you can get the Troll Master this will allow you to control speed right from the main seat of the boat. Best investment I made on my boat.
  5. I had the same question here about a month ago. I was not running snubbers but using mono. I switched to power pro 50 lb and was having trouble keeping fish on. I was just working them too hard. I put DW snubbers on and loosened the drag immediately after the hit and had very good luck landing fish after that. These guys helped me out big time with that advice. Now that I'm getting used to the PP braid I could probably do away with the snubbers.
  6. I am looking for a few life jackets for a friend. His kids are in a group home because they are disabled and once a week he takes them and a few other people from the same home on a ride on his pontoon boat. Mostly up and down canal small lakes etc. He is short a few jackets so if anybody has anything they want to get rid of please reply. The old orange ones would suffice. I'm hoping to not spend a ton of money on them but would be happy to pay something for them as long as they are in good condition and will keep these people safe. Thanks. You can also e-mail me at [email protected]
  7. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 8/15 Time on Water: 5:30 to 8:00 PM Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: no wind Waves: Surface Temp: Location: West of Olcott LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 6 Total Boated: 3 Species Breakdown: Kings & Steel Hot Lure: Spin doctors and flies Trolling Speed: Down Speed: Boat Depth: 200 Lure Depth: dipsies back 260 to 280 on 3 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Just a bit West of Olcott set up a little after 5:00PM and were doubled up by 5:30 and lost both at the boat. Both were teen Kings. 200 feet the picture was great, bait and hooks. Reset and doubled up again about a half hour later only this time we landed both, a small king and 12 lb Steelhead. One more small king to end it at 7:00 when the coast guard was heading our way. They were out with their cutter and a run about, we heard them describe our boat and said they were coming our way to board us but then they decided not to for some reason. I was all legal so I wasn't too worried about it. Had a fun night with the wife and one of my sons. Back out Saturday. I did learn yet another lesson, do not try to set a dipsey right next to another dipsey on a turn - half hour to untangle the mess should of let her get it straight first!
  8. I just purchased a 19.6' with a 115 and 9.9 kicker. Runs about 38-40 loaded with 4 people on it. I love the kicker for trolling, fish all weekend 6-7 hour days and even a few hours on Fri night and use half a tank of gas (15 gal) maybe. Bow ans Stern set me up with everything I wanted on the boat. That's not a plug for B&S I just really like the boat and the guy there was great. Handles a fairly rough lake good too. Here is my advice for what it's worth. 19 foot minimum Kicker motor with troll master Traxtech on both sides Boat comes with wash down if you get the right model
  9. You guys are awesome with the advice. I will try setting the drag just enough so that it does not creep too much while trolling and let them make their run before starting to bring them to the boat. I will double check my release tension and get it as light as i can Thanks all.
  10. I have question about Power Pro. I just switched to 50# PP for my dipsey rods. I hooked up on two different rods six times this am and lost every fish. Spin Doctor and fly. Is it because I'm trying to stop them too fast. I had no problem with mono but I think I'm ripping the hooks out with PP. what is the proper technique when I hook up on dipsey with the PP? Let them run? Will snubbers help? Any advice is appreciated.
  11. Im thinking about using a walleye board to get another line in the water. I do not have a planer mast so this probably the best option for me now. Other than lead core what can I use behind board? Will a walleye board pull a dipsey or is it to much drag? A size 0 maybe set straight back? The other option would be to snap a weight on far in front of a spoon but I'm not sure if a snap weight will get the spoon deep enough on 20 lb mono. Any thoughts? Thanks for the advice.
  12. I was using 20lb mono to the dipsey and 17lb flouro leader. I was in 100 to 200 fow. I have an hds7 fish finder so I will watch for the thermocline on it. If I use wire on my dipsey rods do I need a snubber. I don't run snubs with mono because there is already enough stretch in the line. interesting what you say about err on the high side, I never would have done that. It's the old walleye fisherman in me telling me to slow it down. I did notice the lake rolled actually twice last week. I work at the Somerset plant and watch lake temp closely.
  13. Im new to this forum and it is awesome!! I just got a new boat about three weeks ago 20' Starcraft, 9.9 kicker. Spent Sunday morning out of Olcott and caught a couple small kings both on FF. I also had a couple dipsey's out. I don't have riggers yet but will get soon or as soon as wife let's me spend more money. My set up was a clear and a black and purple dipsey both with Spin doctors dew crush and white chrome with Atomik flies. Two dipsey's with spoons. Either the bite was slow or I was not set quite right. I was using DW spoons in green and green and black. Any particular color spoon I should be using early, mid morning etc? I thought I was running them back off my LCD reels 140 to 200 feet (trying to change it up). My SOG on my GPS was 2.2 to 2.5 most of the time. You guys are great for sharing your knowledge and any advice you give me will be appreciated
