  1. I use them all the time. I never had any problems with them as far as quick releases. You play with them a little to start, but once they are set you should be fine, especially on spoons. One thing I do know this time of year is that some of the small kings strike hard, but don't have a large mouth for the hooks. I tend to get a lot more of those this time of year, that would be my guess. I had 4 or 5 releases like that last weekend and we hooked up with a bunch of 5-8 pound kings. I might be completely wrong...but that was always my thought.
  2. That is awesome. We are right next to you. Always good to see kids having fun out there. Sent from my LG-LS980 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. I think i saw you fishing out near us and sound like we had a similar bite. Nice work. Not many Sodus reports yet. See you out there.
  4. Here is a pick with the kids fish.
  5. Kings were hit 45-65 down. Last steelie was on a dipsy 150 back after it slowed down.
  6. Steelhead were stickbaits. The kings and one steelie were on spoons...blues and greens worked best, large king was on polecat, solve with copper back.
  7. Got out around 6...tried 50-80 and was blanked for the first hour. TONS of boats...decided to be a little different and headed out past 100. Ended up 6 for 9 mix of kings and steelhead. Largest was 21 pounder my son brought in. Was in by 10:30. Not much of a bite after 9:00, all early.
  8. Fished this afternoon for a few hours. Fished west in 60-70, went 2-4. All the fish were caught in about a 30 minute span. Once the outside temp dropped it seemed to die. All caught on spoons 40-50 down.
  9. I was at the docks fishing for bass with my son. My basement got flooded and i was to tired to get up early and the bass were biting like crazy so we stayed there. I talked with a few guys who fished...two were skunked, The one that had fish was 3 lakers, and another hooked up 2 browns early and then nothing. Hoping it starts rolling next weekend!
  10. I have not seen a report from sodus in a while. I am taking my kids out this weekend hopefully and had a four hour window to get out and test the fishing. Took about 45 minutes to find the browns, then ended up with 4 over the next hour. My son and nephew like catching lakers so went out and fished from 30-80 feet for a few hours and got blanked. Didnt see anything or have anything hit. Anyone else fishing Sodus? Wondering how it been going.
  11. I was just out off butler road today. Went with my 9 year old, the snow and slush was a little much for him so i didnt fish much...but did drill some holes. It is 7-8 inches everywhere we drilled. I think as long as you stay away from the bubblers there should be plenty of good ice.

Took my first two ice fishing trips with my son last weekend and today. Fished a few hours and got a handful of perch near arneys. Dropped a few large shiners for some pike, but no takers. Saw a lot of people off the point. Is that the pike area? Any tips for a newbie...ill take them. I have to admit, ice fishing is a lot more fun than I expected. ..im hooked.
  16. I love the chaos that a large king brings. The stories make it that much more fun.
  17. How deep is the water you are fishing? Last weekend we were 350-450, any closer or still out deep?
  18. No idea...dont have a temp probe. I can say that the last few weeks i would pick up 2-3 browns every morning before going out for salmon working 80 to 100 fow. This last trip i had to go out to 135 because nothing was going in shallower, and when i got the fish up they were warm, and caught them 10 feet off the bottom. I hoped to catch more, but wasted an hour in shallower. Good news is that most people are not fishing them, all three were over 7 pounds.
  19. Took my son out for browns this morning. He wanted to catch a big brown this year. We went out from 5:30-8:30. Didn't get anything until we went deeper. Caught three between 120 and 130. Fish were warm and caught near bottom. Lots of boats out, Anyone have any luck with the kings?
  20. Hey! O was embarrassed before to show this. But this was our beast!
  21. Sorry...i think i jinxed you with my post about july fishing. We will be there bright and early tomorrow. Hope we can figure this out.
  22. Luckily they love hanging on the boat. My daughter brings toys and one fish gets my son chatting for at least two hours, but after a few hours of no bites they ask to go in and jig at the docks ( they each got a largemouth tonigjt!). I was thinking of going after some lakers on the bottom tomorrow. If i get out ill let you know. Thanks.
  23. Nick, Its been mixed as far as marking and finding fish. For example...tonight i didnt mark anything from 120-200. Went in for browns and marked a lot around 90 feet where i picked up the two fish. I may be up tomorrow with my wife and kids if its not raining. Maybe ill see you at the docks. If i go out it will most likely be an evening trip. Best of luck.
