  1. We start fishing mid may off Brocton Shoal and troll from 20 to 40 ft of water this year we do good on three colors with husky jerks. This is the same time of year they catch them at night on the reefs. We target these fish directly off these reefs deeper during the early morning and late afternoon. Early June and into early July we catch fish suspended in the top 40 ft, occasionally in the top 15ft sometimes over a 100 ft, just depends on water tempature and were the bait is. When we first started using segmented cores it was 3 colors, 5 colors and full cores. We still catch alot of fish on full cores directly off the back of the boat. Sometimes only letting 7 colors out, one on each side. If you are just starting out I would get two 3 colors and two ten colors. You can run the three colors off the inlines and if the fish are 25 ft down add two ounces off wieght after deploying the three cores with a snap wieght. We still do this, I run three inline boards per side, say three five colors on one side and three three color on the other if the fives are out producing the threes we simply add 2 ounces on the three colors therefore essentially running six baits at roughly 25 ft. If you get a fish on the outer board you just need to let him drift back a little before cranking in just taking your time.

  2. Well guys I was out fishing Friday right out of the creek in 50 foot of water. Yesterday I figured would ruin the creek therefore basically ending the fishing out on erie off the Catt. This morning another small city has formed. Windy and cold and after tommorrow cold temps coming might be good for awhile. No water on the creek and as of Friday still 18 inches and the walk is easy in comparison to sturgeon. For the fishing, good. For all the guys to north it is worth a day trip for sure, wheelers had little problems Friday.

    Always be careful.

  3. Well I bought a 1000 yd spool of Stealth core. I have previously used many different brands of leadcore. While spooling the segmented colors I realized that the stealth core diameter was definetly significantly smaller. I have okuma 45 for my ten colors and I fit and extra two colors on the reels which was fine. I usually use these in each corner of the boat straight off the back of the boat. I would guess the stealth core diameter is closer to the micro lead core. I bought the 27lb test. I tried to look online and find its diameter but it wasnt listed. I even asked the guy at the shop and he could not tell me either.

  4. Well Ill give myself a report. Sturgeon point was the bully who kissed my girlfriend at the dance and when I confronted him he whopped me and kicked me in the nuts when I was down, dragged me outside in the cold and left with her.

Fishing sucked but people were friendly. Why I can't stay on the beaten path in any thing I do is beyond me. Went out to the farthest group Ne and then I had to see what was way west. Nothing to show for it. We will try again.

  5. Silver fox. Do you pull lead core say 5 colors with a board with the bwd 1101 rods? I am going to purchase probably eight rods and I would prefer to run my mono and leadcores all on the same rods just switching reels. I use church tx 12 and then 22s once we start using up to five colors. I was using cabelas medium action 8 fters and don't like them, we have broke a bunch.

Thanks for the response in advance.

  6. Another smelting hotspot as far as fishing for them is on the cattaragus creek. You can really get some nice ones and when there in you can get a lot. Right at the Hanover launch.

  7. Agreed about lake spawning fish. I have a friend who runs the Argo on lake Eire and he told me he believes by netting that the majority of fish spawn on the soft bottoms in conjuncture were the gravel/reefs intersect. I always seen the best concentrations late November and through December on the erie tribs.
