  1. Thats exactly it...walleye surface hits are implosions as opposed to bass surface hits tend to be explosions. Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Tnx diversion Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Better check the numbers....it makes a difference...if you cant find the post ill measure mine tonight when i get back to the lake Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. Spot on Gill-t! Filetted, trimmed, and cooked properly big walleye are just as good! Thick fried fish doesnt have as much breading/batter/fried flavor...we like it that way...but not for everyone. Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. Ditto! They are definitely feeding on alewives on the surface by gill flare now....in summer stomachs are shrivelled and lack any digestive fluid or signs of.... Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Elk eat to much! Could the environment be created for them...absolutely! I love the idea of hunting moose or elk in our home state.
  7. Just set em in the water with the nose pointed out away from the boat a bit and slowly crank em out...nothing to it. There is a post from a month and a half ago that mentions correct knot positioning for your otters, by yankee troller. Use his setup....its better than the measurements given by big jon.
  8. Ditto on the bigguns chris! They taste just fine!
  9. As usual there are 2 sides...
  10. I find Im always trying to correlate times to fish and weather or moon phase. I have no idea why I care as Im going to fish no matter the weather, even if its casting from shore which I know is much harder I still fish....no pressure...no expectations...and if I do catch in "bad" fishing weather when nobody else is around it just makes for better story! If you fish long enough you will have great days when you thought it would be awful, and you'll take a zero on day that was supposed to be perfect. That being said...east wind isnt my favorite!
  11. Note the tow pulley is in front of the vertical tree Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. My old masts were 5' and about 6' of the water and it worked. My new setup is 8' off the water and I like it better. As far as rod holders goes you need at least enough distance from the mast to rods so the tow line doesnt hit them. The greater the distance from rods to masts the longer the hook/pulley line will need to be to reach the tow line. My tow point is 18 inches in front of the vertical tree and I can reach the tow line without a rope or hook and the tow line doesnt rub or touch my rods. Im sure somebody will say this is wrong, but when I asked the same question last year I got zero so this is what I came up with after talking to Tony at Great Lakes Planers. Ill post a pic from my phone...I dont have one on my pc.
  13. Pause is key imo...but better if it stays sub surface most nights....and you know I love blue and orange. I tried that lure on fathers day and got a great smallie on the west side.
  14. Thanks for the report brent. Sub surface swimming of floating sticks can be fished above the weeds, but it seems like they dont want them that way. Im gonna try weighting my bomber ever so slightly so i can pause it without it floating, but still keep it over the weeds. Getting tougher for sure, but still some action! 15. Sounds like a good trip...calm water and 2 30+! Look forward to the pics!
  16. I was thinking small gulp, but ill try the powerbait, on a little dropshot hook weightless. I have some brand new crappie jigs somewhere too. I had him on a noodle, but it was set up with 20lb braid and 15lb seaguar leader, great for walleye...overkill and then some for crappie!
  17. The Otisco walleye have not exploded, but there is a good population. As far as the brown trout decline goes the browns are stocked over 12" in length and I doubt the walleye can be blamed for the lack of success. The reason the browns dont do as well is a lack of dissolved oxygen in the deeper colder water. Last year we had plenty of water all summer and fish were able to survive deeper, but 2 years ago lake levels dropped and so did the oxygen. Keep in mind that syracuse uses far more water from otisco than skaneatles, and it provides the water for 9 mile creek also. Walleyes feed on alewives, perch, etc not trout in Otisco! Everyone has a tendancy to blame someone or something when they dont succeed fishing....remember these lakes are stocked and managed and it isnt a perfect system. Nice job on the eyes Kevin! Did you win?
  18. Sunday Tracy n I had friends and their son on board for some bass and tiger fishing. I couldnt seem to put us on much and after a nice afternoon i decided to head in. Their son Lucas wanted to fish more so I told him to fish right out of the boat at the dock. There is a decent crappie bite in the evening there because the bait shop dumps the dead minnows there every night. He picked away at bluegills, bass, perch, and got 6 crappie over 9 and 1 almost 12. They certainly werent big but we filetted a tasty snack! Gonna have to give it a better effort with minnows and see if we can get more of the bigger ones. 19. Thats a fine walleye anywhere! I was fishing under the bridge in a storm outta the east one afternoon that I ran up to Gander and hit it perfect. There were 2 guys there plus 2 of us and the we all caught at least 2 over 24 from shore and 1 of the other guys had a nearly 30 he released! Oneida definitely has good fish... 20. Im very surprised how long the action has been steady! A bad night is 1 eye and rare! Thursday night I think im solo Connor...let me know Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Tried a few hours of evening trolling last couple days and NADA! Night bite is still on and no end in sight...Played with my fishhawk quite a bit and down temp really varies still. I ran spoons, harnesses, and deep divers trying both my summer and spring patterns at several speeds on both shores. Someone might be able to get results, but I couldnt. I took 2 nights off and enjoyed some rest and relaxation, but ill be back at the night casting thursday. Cant wait for the consistent easy trolling to begin. 22. If there is one lake I wouldnt worry about about fish for the future its Oneida. Plenty of numbers there...bigger deep divers and speed will weed out the hammer handles. Limits of 20-24 inchers are possible, but you wont catch near as many fish if you target bigger fish. Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Very early morning, but either works well for me. Night trolling is effective too, but not near as enjoyable...especially for the guy who owns the boat and gear! Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. It would be nice if guys would commit to a line and NOT zig zag when approaching another troller! I always go for deep water...had a bad experience trying to hold the drop off and ran everything a ground... Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. We had an even slower night last night...1 eye and a few bass! Found fish but couldnt get them to go. Weeds were tough where the fish were! A buddy got a nice tiger on the west side, but I havent seen pics yet or found out if he found any eyes. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
