  1. Tough to troll em during the alewife spawn...though not impossible....find em at night! Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. There are tons that take the shortcut! The cape cod canal....next 3-4 nights/mornings...should be stellar Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Nice fish Joe! My tides for the cape cod canal are tonight, tomorrow, and thursday....wish I could make it....cant do it all...
  4. You can cast a snagged alewife out on a floating stick...preferably one with rattles, and just let it sit while you cast another rod or just sit and relax a bit....works...ask captain eyes!
  5. Wind helps a ton, and fish windward flats, points, and bays. For GOOD fishing you should hear the eyes if you are in the right spot. I can get some when its flat, but I really know where and how. If you can hear em you can catch em....it takes just the right cadence and lure too. Ive had nights they only would hit hj14's on a 3-8 second pause ticking bottom even when im hearing them on top...the easy nights you can use a floater slow rolling just under the surface and you hear them hit before you feel it. With 2 or 3 guys in the boat you figure it out much faster and then copy each other, or better yet 2-3 boats working the lake together would really help too. Ive recently taken 11 different guests out 7 have caught fish, and Ive managed at least 1 each time. Its different every time and if you asked any of them I doubt they would tell you its easy even when the boat is in just the right spot and the walleyes are popping EVERYWHERE! 315angler, captain eyes, johnnywalleye, lyke2fish jump in here...how easy is it? Remember we didnt waste a minute looking for fish....Dont give up yet!
  6. I think 3.0 is still a bit fast until the water temps rise, and a thermolcline sets up. Ill be trolling for tigers this weekend at least that fast and if I get into any eyes Ill certainly post...I pull perch or purpledescant rapala deep taildancers size 9 and 11 along with shad raps in 8 and 9. As for depth that too depends on temperature, but as a guess they will be 15-25 down now and as deep as 35 in peak summer. BTW I troll Oneida at the same speed in summer...and catch eyes every time! Trolling bags are a cheap way to get your speed down and you can even make them. One thing to remember if you are trolling fast is leadcore, bottom bouncers, 3 way rigs, or any other speed dependant trolling will not work! Except copper, but you'll be putting alot more in the water to get down.
  7. I doubt you are gonna like my answer....avg summer trolling speed 3.0. I use reaction bite trolling for eyes, but I also like it because i get big tigers, bass, and browns. I know the kind of ground I cover in a morning, and have canoed for 20 years and speed trolling doesnt seem feasible from a yak! Best thing to do is go see what speed your capable of sustaining, and then figure out what you can use that MIGHT work. It will take time, but ill help you out! I respect the effort and i cant wait to see it! Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Anybody getting eyes at night? Its been good here for 3 straight weeks. Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Greg, I figured some walleye magic might be involved! Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. When I was fishing without tracy I slept in the envoy or on the boat to save money. In the fingerlakes there are places where you can get a rv site and slip for 2000-2500 for the season. There are lots of options and doesnt take too long to figure out what works best for you and what doesnt! As long as we get to fish every week.... 11. Couldnt agree more big water! When I used to trailer I fished less, spent more, and caught less! Tent camping gets old fast...rv makes things SO much nicer! Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Way to go Gator! Nice fish! Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Its amazing how mental the fishing game is! I had a couple bad weekends in june last year and pulled the boat, went to Cayuga caught a bunch and I hammered eyes the rest of the summer. Just need to "reboot" your mind sometimes! Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Just because a technique takes work AND skill doesnt make it obsolete. Try jigging em without a fishfinder! You dont need one to pull copper. To each his own. The old ways may not be as efficient or easy, but for some that is the attraction. Ive tried pulling copper and it certainly isnt for me, but I respect those who came before me and the techniques they used and still use. There is no wrong way to enjoy the outdoors. Andy, I hope your son passes the old ways on to his son along with the new. Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Oneida is MUCH easier in that almost any strategy can work with a little effort pretty much all season. At Otisco you might pick up the occasional eye, but limits dont come easy and for consistency there is no 1 technique that works all season. Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Nice eye! Way to go! What did you get it on? Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. Meathunter, How fast can you paddle your yak pulling a rod or two for 2-3 hours? Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Nice job Andy! My little 21 year old is coming to fish tonight...it never gets old...not sure whether im more excited or he is! Nothing better than time with family at the lake. Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. No all night partying going on here...once last summer there was a group that was loud and i had to say something to them, and Shane kicked them out in the AM and told them not to come back! As for kids there is usually some around. When you come stop by...cant miss me by the launch Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Nice job! Otisco has a steep learning curve way to stay after it! Stop n see me at the campground and Id be happy to share some info. I also encourage everyone who fishes otisco eyes to please request an angler diary from the DEC region 7 office. Even if you dont fish much or catch much. We have to show the DEC how much we want stockings to continue and increase. They won't put em in if they dont know we target and catch em. The DEC needs the data to manage the fishery. 21. Ive have a couple just like it with DEEP TOOTH MARKS Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Need more understanding and cooperation just like this! As sportsman we are on the same side! Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Id seen most of your pics, but nice to read thru! Thanks for sharing...keep em coming! BTW equipment is outstanding...I know how hard you worked on it and it shows...enjoy buddy you deserve it! Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Nice fish Devin! Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. Once you get bit it shakes your confidence for sure...i worry everytime i put gas in now! Never gave it a thought before because i THOUGHT id have no prob using ethanol free gas! As it turns out there's no guarantee the gas is any good...could happen anywhere Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
