Decided not to go out and cast all night and get some much needed rest last night. Instead we went out at 4am. Didnt see any action casting and decided to troll at 530. We had a steady slow pick on a mix of deep taildancers and reef runners in purple/white for a solid 5hrs. Finished 5-6 on eyes from 21-27 inches. Biggest fish was just hair under 8 lbs. Well ive changed more filters ...which he gave me...i also replaced the bulb and lines...he says there is 200 gallons below the pick up and that there was nothing wrong with the fuel. I guess ill never know the answer perhaps it was a coincidence, and he put another dock section in today. I still will be hauling my fuel in the future. I still doesnt idle right but im fairly confident I won't be stranded. Either way im goin out at 12am. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Alright...Im not a fan of trashing anyone's business but...I have to share my recent experiences. First off I have been buying their gas for 3 years at 5+ dollars a gallon because its convenient. First fill up of the season I pull up and there is only 1 dock section, and my 21 foot toon cant be tied up because the dock is too small. Luckily I had 2 buddies who held the boat, barely, in the wind. The kid working is laughing and no help. Next time I call first to make sure they are open... same dock issue so I cant fill up solo. I hand him a $100 and go start pumping. 2.5 gallons in his tank is DRY! Immediately boat is running like crap for the first time ever. Check fuel filter...dirty! 2 filters later its finally running better today and I have a spare. Then I found out its 3 bucks to park there plus 9 dollar launch. If anyone gives him any business do so at your own risk...HE WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER DOLLAR FROM ME... EVER! Im gonna go down now and ask him to pay for 3 filters and express my feelings. Its great to see interest in the diary program! We all must do our part to help ...thanks for the info muskiedreams. Its important that we educate ourselves, and then use the info to educate others. Anyone have any info on how to get a fingerlake walleye association started? Ill start doing some research, but I certainly would be open to suggestions! I took 5 guys i met last year out today for tigers and eyes. Finally Im marking fish on bait. Conditions were a bit rough, wet, and debris EVERYWHERE. We trolled a variety of deep divers covering from 10 to 38 feet down on the west side till we got near laders point and debris and logs forced us to the east side. We picked up a couple nice smallies, and dropped 1 fish. I picked up our speed from 1.7 to 2.5 and switched to a deep perch pattern spread on the south end of the west shore, and got 1 33" tiger 32 feet down that put on good show when it saw the boat. We tried another hour before the debris turned into logs and trees. Conditions were far from good, but we had a great time. Ill get pics from them and post in the AM. I showed them some spots to cast tomorrow from their boat so hopefully they can get some action. I have a crew in the morning to help me build our deck so i wont make out till evening. The angler diary program is available with a call to your regional office...they mail you a packet. Then after you turn in your books you will recieve a summary of the data collected in your region, and your packet for the following year. Its a little time consuming but necessary if your personal fishing is in stocked waters. Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Everyone can do their own research, but when you do you will be where phisherman585 and i are. Im for uniting not fighting amongst each other. I only want to be involved in constructive dialog. Remember we are on the same team! A finger lakes walleye assoc. is the way to make our voice matter. Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Im only discussing the natural walleye reproduction issue last time...THERE IS NO REPRODUCTION! The walleye from the hatchery have a genetic marker in their ear bones in laymens terms. The dec samples the lake and then looks for the marker. They havent found fish without it! We can argue, but why? We all agree we wouldnt mind more fish, so lets FOCUS on that 1 isssue. These lakes are definitely put and take, and its not overfished its underfished. We have to show the dec that the lake is fished successfully by the masses if you want fish every year. joe, There is no wrong way to fish....just the way you like it is the right way! Im no expert...I fish 1 lake a ton and have learned that in the spring I get my biggest fish deep. In summer they arent as deep on Otisco due to poor disolved oxygen levels. Our biggest tigers suspend over deep water lazily same as the walleye. I seldom cast for them in the shallows, only as a last resort because Im not a numbers guy Id rather catch nothing and target BIG fish. I trolled my butt off with 9 lines for the tourney, but we couldnt catch a cold. Last resort was to go for smaller fish just because it was a tourney. I fished my whole life from a canoe so when I bought a boat I wanted to fish deep.

Absolutely correct captain Larry. Ive never fished Conesus personally, but I know a few guys that fish Conesus with the same strategy I use at Otisco and they catch eyes everytime out all summer just like I do. They are catchable and there are guys who hammer em. We need a paradigm shift in the mentality of the walleye fisherman...the secretive, exclusive approach simply can only hurt the fishery. I dont know why trout and salmon guys get it and walleye guys dont! Just so im not mistaken, i am referring to stocked, managed walleye lakes...not ontario or erie or the alleghany watershed. I have taken a lot of bs from guys who criticize me for keeping too many fish and for telling the whole world about Otisco...my goal has never changed..I want to make the lake so popular that the state wouldnt consider taking our stockings away. The downside is more boats out there and more people, but the state isnt going to stock fish just for me anyway, and a good fisherman will still catch plenty even with more pressure.
-
Posting your trips and sharing info gets more guys out there too which in turn promotes the fishery. If successful anglers try to keep the fish to themselves in the end they will have none. Fish are stocked for the masses not just a couple individuals. Does anyone know the numbers from last years diary on conesus? We had 257 walleye caught on otisco and 18 participants. Ive seen more than 18 people targeting them this year already...
-
I agree its impossible to conduct an accurate population study, but its not impossible to show the state there is a solid base of anglers targeting finger lakes walleye. Thats all we have to do to get fish...if the number of participating anglers in the angler diaries targetting eyes in the fingers was to double or triple in 1 year we would make a hell of a statement. We need participation and numbers to have a voice that cannot be ignored.
-
I use my regular pass hauling my constuction trailer and I have seen the extra on my statement, but not always. They do make mistakes on your bill...we have been over charged too!

I know there are plenty of guys fishing for walleye, and I know there are plenty of people reading this forum yet nobody speaks up. Sportsmen need to do a better job educating themselves and realize how fish management resources are allocated. You can bet Otisco will get its fish....I make sure the DEC knows how successful thier stockings are and do everything I can to increase the catch rates for the lake....like sharing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This thread needs to be moved to the walleye forum so it gets read by the individuals that need this info!
