A good year for trout means higher water levels and less clarity therefore targeting the spawning trout becomes more difficult especially for lifters. In a perfect world maybe we would leave the trout alone to spawn the same way we do for walleye, but then shore guys wouldnt get much opportunity to fish for them. Its not just a matter of catch and release as that can be worse than snagging 1 and going home. In the end we have to share and hope the DEC can manage the fishery, and being an angler diary cooperator helps. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Not that im much of catfish guy, but we always had good luck with good old fashioned nightwalkers in the susquehanna. Wish a had a dollar for every monster walleye i hooked trolling that ended up a big cat! As soon as i see its a cat it feels like going from super bowl to toilet bowl! Wednesday weather
justtracytrolling replied to smaltcody's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
We have all been in hairy situations, but honestly I try not to push the envelope as its supposed to be fun and safe. Easy to say when you can fish 4 day a week not 4 days a month...be careful! justin -

Otisco Lake Angler diary results 2013
justtracytrolling replied to justtracytrolling's topic in Walleye
Bout 150, but i take alot of people out. Believe me there is other guys that catch like i do they just dont tell anyone. Its a tough lake to be consistent on but there really is tons of walleye. Get ahold of me ill help you out. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app -
Conesus fishes simliarly to Otisco, and Id try a more aggressive approach in the summer with deep divers, and may, sept, and october casting sticks at night is my favorite. Leadcore has its uses for sure and with harnesses its very effective, but I do much better on stickbaits. justin

Overpopulation is something we all will have to get used to....there just is too much land that isnt hunted and suburbia has created a sanctuary for for many species. The new archery and crossbow regs that will allow hunters to get closer to houses should help a little. The Canada goose is another species that has really become a problem. justin

There are definitely places you can get out where its not so bad, but I like weekdays for shore fishing. Have a couple places in mind and hit a few spots. justin

Another derby in Naples

Just wondered when the last time rainbows were put in Canadaigua? Maybe Sk8man will have an answer... -
Nevermind I found it....yeah the farm I hunt would vehemently disagree with the what did they ever do to you sentiment. Not sure if guys are aware that it has become difficult or even illegal to get crow resistant seed (corn) to plant and crows can wipe out an entire planting. This happened on our hill and now the farmer has propane cannons that go off all day to keep the crows out till the corn comes up. They are a major problem for farmers. justin

Kevin I know what you mean! I dont post to much on my hunting, but have talked hunting a bit on the forum and had no trouble....BUT I have had plenty of people criticize my harvesting of walleye!!! I too knew the water I was fishing and was sure it was put and take...glad I put that to rest! Alright somebody tell me what happened to PAP and the crow hunting? In my area they are a nuisance and local bars have contests to see who can shoot the most...and predators too of course! And nobody harass PAP again about the crows for gods sake even if he deserves a little...lol!! justin

Another derby in Naples
justtracytrolling replied to Phisherman585's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Make no mistake Im not PRO trout stream derby! Id like to to have more pristine streams, but then how do you pick who gets to fish them? Its real easy to say what would be best for us as individuals, but difficult to say whats best for everyone as a group. If we are dreaming Id like to see more fisheries managed for bigger fish not numbers, but thats why I fish Otisco not Oneida. Its important that those of us who dont lift and herd fish still go out there, take kids, and do it right so at least somebody sets an example. justin -
Bigdip, Yeah im pretty sure the lake will be open...but Ill be surprised if all the docks will be in! Shane has a full plate there with rebuilding their shop, remodelling bathrooms, and they have a ton of boats to get ready. I keep my boat on shane's dock so ours goes in first...I told him if it wasnt in Id put it in! Chris, The best fishing in May wont be trolling...not that we wont do some, but casting at night is the real deal in may and maybe into june this year! So dont forget where that little boat is... Anybody out near conesus know if the eyes are running? Should be this week next at the latest... justin

Another derby in Naples
justtracytrolling replied to Phisherman585's topic in Finger Lakes Discussion
Is there some reason why licensed anglers cant get together to fish and support a cause? I think its still legal to keep a fish. If the derby was in the lake would it still be a problem? Is it because the fish are spawning? The DEC makes the rules and like it or not trout season is open. I doubt the event advocates illegal snagging and Im pretty sure anybody who chooses to break the law will still be out lifting even if there were no event. The reason that the dec stocks the fish is so we can fish for them. Catch and release isnt harmless to trout. Just to play devil's advocate here Ive seen plenty of guys catch and then release fish after fish all morning and then raise their nose when they see somebody takes a fish home. There is no way all the released fish live. If the fish arent to be harmed we should eliminate the hooks. I agree that small streams are fragile and probably dont NEED the pressure, but thats the case with every stream that has public access and even the above mentioning of the streams on an open forum such as this adds more according to the forum trib rules. There isnt an easy answer other than we really have to share the resource. As Sk8man said its all about money... justin
