  1. Is there some reason why licensed anglers cant get together to fish and support a cause? I think its still legal to keep a fish. If the derby was in the lake would it still be a problem? Is it because the fish are spawning? The DEC makes the rules and like it or not trout season is open. I doubt the event advocates illegal snagging and Im pretty sure anybody who chooses to break the law will still be out lifting even if there were no event. The reason that the dec stocks the fish is so we can fish for them. Catch and release isnt harmless to trout. Just to play devil's advocate here Ive seen plenty of guys catch and then release fish after fish all morning and then raise their nose when they see somebody takes a fish home. There is no way all the released fish live. If the fish arent to be harmed we should eliminate the hooks. I agree that small streams are fragile and probably dont NEED the pressure, but thats the case with every stream that has public access and even the above mentioning of the streams on an open forum such as this adds more according to the forum trib rules. There isnt an easy answer other than we really have to share the resource. As Sk8man said its all about money... justin
  2. You're on to something there Jeff...no excuses now! justin
  3. Good work Kevin! Nice birds!! justin
  4. Great job guys! Good wake up call for all of us! Great sunset last night there...i was just north of you guys wading. BTW there still are some really good people out there...i lost my wallet fishing over the weekend on cayuga, and a women walking found it and I was able to pick it up last night....over $300 in cash and gift cards for bass pro, dicks, and cabela,s ive been saving along with alot of stuff that wouldnt be fun to replace all still intact. Of course I tried vigorously to get them to accept some token of my gratitude and she said she was happy enough to have helped me out! justin
  5. I recieved the angler diary results yesterday in the mail, and I thought Id share the result from Otisco Lake. BTW the complete summary may viewed online at http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/27875.html. Last year we had 18 cooperators recording 210 trips which amounted to almost 1400 hours of fishing effort. Cooperators caught a record 254 walleye surpassing the 190 caught in 2000. 251 of those walleye were keepers and all but 12 were kept. The avg fish caught was close to 23 inches. The resulting catch rate was up 66% to .29 walleye per hour, and catch rates of .2 are considered very good with catch rates approaching .5 being excellent. The YOY (year of young) survival rate was 11.8% which is at a high since 2008 based on fall electrofishing, and the growth rate of 1.5 inch fingerlings stocked in june was good with the average fish being 7.1 inches in september. The lake is in great shape!! There is alot more data and encourage everyone to check it out, and urge everyone to participate! justin
  6. Nice fish! Thanks for sharing!!! justin
  7. Nice job Greg! You and your son are a fine team and if I were an Ontario eye Id be worried! Love the music...Frostbit Blue is my favorite local band. Hung out with those guys a few times back in the day. justin
  8. Fine looking hounds! Thanks for sharing. Makes me remember my hound Lil! Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. Craigslist is so full of scams, but if you are patient you will find a rv that suits you and your budget. We tried to buy one last fall that was perfect so we thought, but the price was just a bit much. We second guessed ourselves all winter till we found a much larger and nicer unit that was cheaper! I really think its a buyer's market so dont settle. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. If this passes its about time!
  11. More important than extreme magnum loads is patterning and choke tube selection. I say use what works in YOUR gun for the yardage you are planning to shoot. Every gun shoots different loads differently and patterning is the only way to know for sure. Personally I find the heavi-shot products way over priced and over-rated unless you really wanna see how far away you can shoot a bird... justin
  12. Exactly! Last month we bought a 2004 37ft 5th wheel with 4 slide outs for $10000 sitting on a campground...handy that it was next to our boat! We found much better deals on rv's that were on sites...apparently people dont want to deal with pulling their rv's and getting them ready for sale. justin
  13. Hope you are doing better Les! Just be thankful its been so cold....you havent missed much yet! justin
  14. Lets not get carried away...Im not saying we couldnt use some change, but there are plenty of people fishing the tribs well within the rules. Not everyone has or wants a boat, and we all have to SHARE the resource. It certainly isnt the average trib fisherman's fault when trout stocks ebb. I certainly dont support lifting and ignoring the rules set for us to follow, but I do support fishing and that includes tribs, lakes, rivers, seas, and oceans. As far as catch and release only in the tribs goes thats easy to say when we have boats! Good management of the fishery we need, but shore fisherman buy licenses and support our fisheries too. Its unfortunate that there are so many lifters out there to ruin things for those that follow the rules. I just hate to see sportsman lose sight of the fact that we should all be on the same side... justin
  15. I have the same problem Kevin! I usually go to the cape cod canal for stripers, but id like to do the hudson too, and obviously walleye as that's my main fishing, and I really enjoy spring walleye because i can get them casting instead or trolling. Probably only hunt a day or two! Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. Gulp has worked well for me everywhere ive tried it. It trolls well on a harness...eliminates a lot of off target catches. justin
  17. Im seeing the signs too Kevin! Went and shore fished cayuga last night and it had a spring feel...at least until the eyes started icing about midnite. Im headed up to otisco today to get some things done our RV....bet it wont look so spring like there with the 2' of ice. justin
  18. Congrats! Beautiful fish! You are living the dream.... justin
  19. We got into a few browns last night on cayuga from shore....was just awesome to be out! Lost one good fish that was a jumper. justin
  20. Sounds like good living Kevin! There was a time we picked up roadkill...when you needed 3 people per doe permit...now getting more deer than you can eat is easy.
  21. Absolutely love it! We call those types bassholes....I wouldnt have been able to resist a few comments... justin
  22. My grandfather used to take me smelting on cayuga in the late 70's and early 80's. I really loved roaming around in the tribs with a lantern and a net hunting for smelt. We had slow nights for sure, but we limited out more often than not. We loved eating them, but its been close to 20 years since ive had any. Does anyone still do this? justin
  23. We are back to 19 boats with fishhard23.....1 spot left as of now
  24. Just to update this we were at 19 boats, but back to 18...still room for 2 more justin
  25. That does it...Im thawing walleye to fry tonight! Only 6 more weeks till fresh fish again so no need to ration filets anymore . justin
