  1. Good point Sk8man....Those who have no respect for the limit are "on" the fish already and are already very efficient fishermen needing little or more likely no help to target perch. Its hard for the average person to realize how easy it is to over harvest if you fish almost daily. If you fish enough you get in on crazy runs where even fish like walleyes can be caught in huge numbers and it takes respect for the law to quit at the limit. justin
  2. Pap, I try not to fish where guys shore fish as Im mobile and they have limited access, but its awful tough to give courtesy to shore fisherman if they don't flash a light when they see you coming. Ive had too many close calls because someone doesn't have enough sense to flash a light or leave 1 on. BTW Im probably pulling 9 lines and big boards so yeah marker lights are a good idea! I use my spotlight to shine my boards as I approach other boats if I can see them so they can see how wide I am. justin
  3. All true, but Monday I waited in the same spot making the exact same cast I don't know how many times with the same f18 that I used the night before and after 2 hours finally a school of 7 pounders came in and we took turns catching 7 in just minutes with a triple. Bottom line is gotta fish hard and really fish each cast as if you know they are there not just going thru the motions. Changing baits helps keep you focused and each bait works different too. I fish the same bait, and vary the way I fish it, and take breaks giving fish a chance to move in. The only night I couldn't catch my back hurt so bad I wasn't fishing well. Thank god Cody caught 1! lol Takes both patience and stubborn hard work. Just remember if you can catch 1 you can catch 3...it always is slow fishing right up till it isn't! Right Tim? A limit is just 3 casts....but seldom the first 3. Don't be afraid to try bait under a float on 1 pole and stickbait on the other. justin
  4. Snapping turtles? I grew up with ponds on our farm and snappers werent given any quarter. Grandpa had ducks and we hunted turtles all summer. Neighbor ate em...tho prob not all of em. Growing up you couldnt leave a stringer of fish long at night or turtles would wipe you out. Fished for em too with cut bait. Times change tho.... 5. I live right near there and drive right by it 3+ times a week to fish otisco! Plenty of walleyes and the occaisional 10lber but on the whole not enough big fish for me. Spillway is already heating up, and the susquehanna too, but ill take the big girls from otisco anyday over the reservoir. Also check out the walleye forum in warmwater Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Nice...1 isnt bad....it aint easy....all summer i prefer morning but now id say 10 to 2 at night is best. My son and i got 1 friday, but tim is still on em. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

  8. Probably a really bad idea on a new moon and its been foggy out there every night....twice last fall I had very close calls with unlit vessals....one was sleeping and coincidentally I checked my boards with a spotlight and saw him the other used a cigarette lighter to save himself....what if I was fighting a fish....gotta have lights. 9. Ive put alot of time in on otisco trolling eyes in the dark and zero tigers. Now 2 casting both Matt caught. During the dayfime we've trolled up plenty. We'll see if I can run into a few more. Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. If you plan to be on the water in a kayak at night you better have lights its dark this weekend and nobody will see you. Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. There are 2 spots I see people night fish. The causeway is a state access, and I see people fish north of the marina where the road is tight to the rocks. Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Big Dave, Ive had reports of fish caught along those rocks since labor day. I have little experience there as I always try to leave shore fishing areas alone from the boat. I think its mostly baitfishing, but ill bet an f18 or f13 rapala would work. Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Took my buddy Matt out casting for walleye and he asks if I think we will get a tiger. I say NO not at night I never get em at night. He says what about the one he caught in the spring. Well other than that....needless to say he catches 1 immediately...low thirties fish released safely. Anybody else get em at night? Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Great report Tim and thanks for getting down there to get the low down on the north end. I just couldnt make the drive. Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Ronald, Its hard for me to say as I hope to open deer camp today and I have walleye and no venison, and honestly Im tired. Tim will keep me posted on the fish, and Im gonna get a deer. There's plenty of walleyes and they are definitely feeding every night. Everyone give plenty of space to each other and be safe, its a new moon and its dark! Enjoy Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. The biologists from the DEC sampled Otisco Lake last night to check the progress of this years stocking. I was told by Ian Blackburn that the fingerlings are doing very well in both size and in numbers. I then asked about big walleyes and he said there was excellent numbers of 3-5 pound fish just on the "pond" side of the causeway alone. I didn't fish there as I have my own spots and fishing behind an electrofishing boat cant be that productive. I then proceeded to tell him how we were doing all year and showed him my pics from this week and this summer, and he was very happy to see such good catch rates and said that lake was in great shape. Not only didn't he ask me about why I don't practice conservation he thanked me for participating in the angler diaries (he is in charge of it) as angler harvests and participation is NECESSARY in order to receive stockings. I then asked him if he read our forum and he said yes there is a lot of good reports from Otisco and I told him that justtracytrolling is me, and I found out the other biologist was in charge of promoting the quality of each NY fishery and he thanked me for all of the fishing reports as it helps market our NYS fisheries and keep people interested. So to anyone who thinks eating legal limits of mature walleye out of Otisco is not a good conservation practice, and reporting my catches to all of you and the DEC is not enough of a conservation effort. Please do some research make some calls and maybe go fishing in the lake you are speaking about before you try to make wild statements and criticisms. I will be emailing Ian and ask him to join our forum and to post interesting walleye info in our section so we have our facts straight. After spending time talking to both biologists I couldn't help but feel Otisco is in very capable and caring hands. They truly are working FOR us and do a wonderful job, and want to thank them publicly for the fine fishery they have stocked for us. Now the fun part ACTUALLY FISHING... My buddy matt and the man took me who took me fishing as a young man, Walt, Joined me for a gorgeous night casting f18s for some nice fat walleyes. It was a slow night compared to the last 3 and we really had to work hard to catch 6. Walt had more than a few dropped fish and matt lost 1 really nice eye, and they lost half of my f18s. I had a mere 1 hit and got 1 fish, but I didn't bring enough f18's for me lol! Biggest fish was 25 smallest was a mere 20.75 and it was mine. Don't feel to bad for me I was just glad they had good action. Caught our first tiger of the fall casting in the dark (had 1 this spring too) Got 2 more bass over 20" and I finished filleting as the sun came up, and got some cool pics on the way home, but I have to add the pics from my phone.
  17. Great fish yakangler! Lets hear your story...dont have to give specifics but id like to hear how that toad pulled you around! We had a triple 2 nights ago that bout broke my net....didnt have time to get each out....love my musky net! Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. Chris/Greg We all live minutes apart we should get out...my boat will be in another month.... And im always looking Chris! Lol Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. I dont think the avg person that fishes has any idea the amount of time, money, and effort that it takes to be successful hunting big fish. I spent 150-200 a week for 20 weeks on gas to fish all season. Combine that with over 2k for seasonal camping and a slip. Add on line, leaders, tackle losses, boat upkeep and upgrades. Then when you finally catch a your first full limit of eyes with your family everyone wants to know exactly where or they bash you for keeping your legal limit. You have to earn them and Greg you have done that so enjoy your fillets and the feeling of accomplishment that comes with every big walleye. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. The walleye reproduction would be fine without alewives, but the alewives provide the forage....with the supplemental stocking that goes on the lake is in great shape. Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Greg, Great job on the eyes I know how lonely it is out there when you cant catch a fish for days when you are after the big girls. If it was easy they wouldnt taste so good, and they'd call it bass fishing. You earned them for sure! Good work! Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Alewives eat walleye fry and conesus also has alewives that wipe out the spawning. Which is why many believe that Otisco is mostly put and take. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. I was mistakenly under the impression that someone out there might read just how good the fishing is right now and decide to turn the tv off one night and take their son or buddy or wife fishing. If nobody wants to talk fishing im not debating fishery management. Im open with good reports and more than happy to promote the sport of fishing. Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Nice going glad to see you back out on the water. Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. Captain Eyes Where have you been? Figured I would have heard from you. Been getting any? Its on now! Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
