Gander IM8 6'6" medium fast and medium extra fast both with 10lb powerpro on stradics. I use 6 or 8 lb seaguar tied with no barrel, and have spools with just flouro too. These are for 1/2 ounce to 1/8 ounce. I just cant get used to the barrel swivel with spinning tackle. I use a 9' lite moderate st Croix with 8lb powerpro and 6lb seaguar for 1/32 to 1/8. If im trolling or using heavy tackle I like the barrel swivels. I jig up to 6 oz bucktails for stripers and always use them there. Justin

If you plan on running with diving cranks and or clip weights instead of dipsys I would go lighter on the braid. Line diameter really affects diving depth. Im gonna go to a 4 or 6 lb diameter 15-20 lb test to run off big boards. If anybody new to this wants a crash course in trolling walleyes pm me...the precision tolling book explains a lot and I have one that you can look at. I have no where near the experience of other guys here at LOU, but I catch a few and ill share what I know. Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Glad we were staying in a cabin last night! That was the most amzing thunder and lightning ive ever seen. Took my first morning off all summer and slept in with tracy. Might be a good day to go to gander and bass pro. We will get out soon enough Kevin, and Les we still gotta get out for eyes or trout....been a bit slow for me but I think I figured something out yesterday...time will tell Justin Sent from my SPH-L710 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I run 6' 15-20 pound flouro off a barrel swivel. Check leader and last bit of braid especially the knots they chaff as kevin said Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

I want to see 40" as the limit at least, but 36 helps. I see boats dragging boarderline tigers several times a year, and saw a couple taken that didnt make 30. Always gonna have a few people that see what they think is huge and keep it when in reality its an immature sub legal fish. As far as putting the feedbag on goes i dont think they stop eating! They are such an awesome fish when they are allowed to mature. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

suggestions for a good coyote gun
justtracytrolling replied to The Scottsman's topic in Hunting Equipment
During rifle season if you live where their is one you can use a centerfire at night. We dont predator hunt much till after season anyways as it only causes problems, and you cant run hounds. We shot many coyotes with a 17 out to 200 if its not windy. Of course i dont have to track them we have dogs, but i have dropped many... suggestions for a good coyote gun
justtracytrolling replied to The Scottsman's topic in Hunting Equipment
I know this is an old thread but thought I wondered how many guys are hunting yotes regularly with hounds or calling. I started hunting them in 92 and most people didn't know they existed then. Wow have they taken off. Used to be if your group got 10 a year in the southern tier you were doing great, now if a group doesn't get 12 a week its a slow week. Seems like the more you shoot the more there is, and ive read they throw bigger litters if the population gets stressed. Wish we had an open season on em as deer season lasts longer than yote season for houndsmen! I like the long deer season just hate waiting to run my dog and im not a big fan of to much time running in pens. justin -
I was rereading some old posts trying to find a few things to tweak in my spread and I realized I still haven't actuaIlly tried to measure any Tigers this summer. We have caught close to 20 over 36 at least and only 5-6 have been taken out of the water and none measured. Im gonna try to start measuring them as the water temps are down and hopefully by next summer Ill be good enough at it that I can consistently get a photo and measurements AND a good release. Im convinced the next state record tiger will come from Otisco, and you cant catch a 50 if they don't live long enough. Id like to see the size raised to at least 40" like it is in the rivers...anybody out there know if they plan to raise the size restrictions more like they have in other waters? Is this something Muskies Inc is involved in? I haven't joined as the meetings and events aren't really possible to attend for me, but I prob should join just for the cause. justin

Other than salmon, carp, and stripers everything gives up pretty easy when you pull on them with the boat trolling if you have fairly heavy tackle, and if you are keeping the eyes for the table I don't see the need for light tackle trolling. Plus at Otisco you need more than spin tackle with the tigers unless you are casting, and even then releasing big tigers that are played out is nearly impossible in the summer. Kevin how much do you slow down to fight the fish? I try to go as slow as possible once the slack is taken up by the boat and the angler. If I think its a big eye I go to neutral and use the trolling motor to keep the boards out and lines straight. Its not usually a problem when the water temps drop as Im not going 2.5 to 3.5. If im not driving the boat like last Saturday its tough and we end up pulling too hard. I also run HEAVY tackle 50-80 lb braid and 25-50lb flouro leaders my outside rods if its daylight to handle the tigers, and those are the broomsticks we end up getting the big bass on. justin

I hope i dont offend anyone here, but isnt this a forum where we share info? Exact locations arent necessary, but this isnt supposed to be a bragging board. If you cant even mention the lake i dont need to read your posts! What is everyone afraid of? Ive been going to the adirondacks for 20 years and ive never seen enough fisherman to burn your happy place. If you dont want to share why be a member. Ive posted almost every outing all summer and have had a great summer at otisco with no negative impact to my fishing. If you are fishing from shore i get it as access is limited, but unless the lake is the size of a farm pond and you are fishing from a boat there's plenty to go around. Just my personal opinion, but there's absolutely no need to post anything if you cant at least share the body of water. If u cant share with the class keep it to yourself. Heading to Adirondacks (OLD FORGE area) - Any recommendations?
justtracytrolling replied to scramp's topic in Bass Fishing
Even cranberry doesnt have real big bass...big pike there tho...heard from a club bass guy raquette and uwatonna? are both good for bass. Scramp is spot on with his assessment...if you want great fishing stay in the finger lakes...if you want beauty and a challenge head to adk...the best fishing ive ever found in the adks was the saranac river. Ive canoed it 4-5 times in 1 long weekend and been down it 20 times at least and always did well. Just stay outta the permanent rapids unless you know what you are doing...the whole section from saranac lake to franklin falls pond is good for bass and pike, and walleyes from franklin pond to union falls pond. Even on its best day the Adirondacks are poor compared to the fingerlakes for everything! Otisco has produced 25lb 5 fish limits in several tournaments, tons of 8lb + eyes and several tigers every year over 20 lbs...but....i have to go up every year. My son worked his tail off for a few bass at tupper and caught 10 big smb this morn in 2 hours not 400 yds from the house in the susquehanna...go figure! Adk is not just fishing tho... Cranberry Lake ADK
justtracytrolling replied to JOE ESOX's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Ill get up to Great Sacandaga eventually...ill bet you can troll up pike there too while walleye trolling. If you run cranks for walleye you get some of everything! Cranberry really wasnt hard...fish werent that deep as lake is pretty shallow...im still looking for my map, ill post some more info when i find it...my son had it last and he'll be home soon. Here's some skaneatles perch that fellow lou member rnsurfnturf sent me a pic of today. He ended with 7 lbs of perch fillets. They look big enough to troll! Ill take my boat over n try to troll them as soon as he gets back from 8th lake so he can put me on em. I know i could jig em up but it would be fun to troll them, and i bet i get some nice smb too. Think he's been using crayfish and i have deep running crayfish cranks. We can have a perch trolling thread lol! Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

Cranberry Lake ADK
justtracytrolling replied to JOE ESOX's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
Tell me about it! Its getting better on this forum. If we can get more guys talking about their fishing in the Adirondacks it would help a lot. Most of us only fish those lakes once a year and its a steep learning curve when you go. I wont go back up to stained water for eyes again without purple and uv baits...learned that this year the hard way...running 9 rods and only one has THE color...You know there should be an Adirondacks section to this forum! Can this be added??? justin -
I don't troll for perch often, but everytime im at Oneida I get them on rapala minnow rap 7's and even 9's...color perch of course...shad raps size 5 or 7 in jointed or not also. I run them for walleyes and perch on a couple rods and Ive never not got a couple. Most of my spread are larger walleye cranks and that's the ony place I run a couple small ones. The perch I get either are suspended or come up a ways as Im usually at least 5 feet off the bottom. I troll them 2.5 to 3 there but its warmer water Id guess 2 to 2.5 on Seneca. I think you'll catch some on small cranks for sure if you can locate some as they seem fairly aggressive. As Les said the ones you get trolling seem to be much bigger. I get a handful a year on Otisco with large walleye cranks and Im sure if I downsized Id get a lot more. justin
