  1. I stooped there last year for 2 days the last week of August and did well on smb and pike. We caught 2 nice pike over 36" and lost a big one. All 3 pike came on a Rapala clackin minnow with a 3 ounce clip weight 20 feet in front trolling the breaklines of the main deep section of the lake speed was 2.5 - 3. Only ran 1 rod for pike and had 3 hook ups in 3-4 hours. We had the other rods on different DT series bass cranks and caught 20+ smb in the same time. The rest of our trip was casting for bass which seemed much better in the pm than the am. My son only let me troll a little and that was in the middle of the day. Ill look for my map and Ill post a pic of where we camped, there was a nice sandy area to drag a boat up and where we found fish. justin
  2. Way to go Chris! Good to see you get after em! Sounds like I still need a big water boat. Wont be long and the river will be ready. justin
  3. Slow weekend with all the drops saturday...managed 5 eyes in 2 evenings and 2 mornings all caught in daylight...might get out tonight for a try after dark. If we get some wind it would open up some area to troll. The floating mats were better today, but 2 of my most productive spots are unfishable with the full spread you need for consistant results. 13. Joe, You have the right idea. I built a second home near stillwater for my dad, but with gas prices where they are its cheaper and easier to camp and keep the boat on the water than haul even from somewhere central. I did the adirondacks for years with a canoe making several trips per season, but you really can soak it in on a boat where you dont have to work to cover water, and you can bring so much more gear. I like the primitive sites best but is not always easy to find ones suitable to drag your boat up...we found 1 at tupper after we had been pay camping with a slip a full day and didnt want to relocate for 32 dollar a night savings...nice to have showers and a camp store too. 14. Well we had a great time on our annual Adirondack trip for my son's birthday, he's 21 now. Tupper lake is absolutely breathtaking. The views are amazing and there are few boats on the water. As for the fishing....After we check in at Blue Jay Campground I inquire to the owner "hows the walleye fishing lately?" He replies "its the worst year in the 18 years we've been open, and its worse this month than last!" Great! I tell him I love a challenge. Wow did we get our butts kicked! There were 4 other boats fishing for walleyes, all seasonal campers who have been there for years, and from Friday night to Monday morning 2 walleyes were caught a 30 and a 27. I lost a walleye Saturday morn and had 2 solid shots well after dark that we apparently didn't get to in time. Walleyes were very deep, always 40 to 50 down minimum and reef runners with 1-2 ounce clip weights got us there. We tried everything I had, but needed more purple or uv. The water is very dark and the water is high in iron. Had to go with narrow cone on my graph and took a while to get it adjusted properly. When we snagged bottom we brought up chunks of iron crusted mud when we didn't break off. We caught 1 very average pike 32" that fought harder than any tiger from otisco. Hooked the fish on outside starboard rod and fought the fish under the core chute rod and he went around my outside port rod. Needless to say we had a little mess...he crossed 8 lines, but I kept him out of 7. The highlight of the trip was a rare landlocked salmon that went 6+ lbs, one guy has been up there 17 years and it was the first he'd seen though they are stocked. I gave up on the lake trout as they were glued to the bottom and I lost a bunch of tackle. I tried spoons, sticks, flasher fly, sd fly, cowbells, and dodgers off riggers, core, dipseys and only managed the 1 salmon and that was on the boards purple crystal reef runner. That lure took 4 shots, natural perch tdd11 took 3 smb and tdd9 in foil perch took the pike. Lost 2 other eriedescent reef runners to big pike I would guess...wicked strikes and cut clean. We decided to shut off all phones for the trip so I still have to load the pics from the camera, but Ill add some pics then. We hiked Ampersand mountain, and 6 miles made it tough to stay awake that night trolling! Monday we left to take the boat back to otisco, and decided to stop at Oneida for a real quick troll along shackleton shoals. Matt wanted to catch a big perch and I wanted to see if I knew what a walleye looked like. Of course I was running my mouth how easy Oneida was, but Oneida didn't disappoint. I dropped in just before the bouy line at 119 4pm and before I could turn west we had an 18" walleye off the rigger. Floating weeds made boards ineffective and I didn't have time to look for clear water. The waves immediately whipped up and we stuck it out 30 min till matt got his perch on the other rigger, and had the boat going down the road by 6. Launched the boat at Otisco and had lines down by 8. Caught a 24 and a 26 first pass and that was it. Fish started moving up in the column and then in to shore and we couldn't stay on em. We tried casting sticks and matt missed 1 fish. Picked up 1 more in the morn and had 2 drops. There's no place like home...Tupper won round 1, but ill be back next year as I cant give up empty handed. The family that owns and operates the Blue Jay Campground were fantastic and keyed me in on color and was a pleasure to talk fishing with, and even helped me out with some heat shrink tubing to repair my transducer cable. Ill be back out tomorrow night or Saturday morn and hopefully hit Otisco hard. justin
  15. Kevin what can i say you really earn some beauties! That 22 inch mark is tough to break. Ive caught many over 21 in the susquehanna, but never broke 22 in season. Spots arent always to be shared they are to be EARNED. I give alot of info but otisco walleye fishing us not spot specific, and if it was i wouldnt divulge it either. Kevin's results arent the norm in the water he fishes, and to anyone wanting info ask questions about technique and speed etc then go do the work on the water. Read between the lines and put the time in or hire a charter. Be thankful as you just got an awesome fishing report telling you its finally picking up! 16. Sounds like a keeper! Congrats kevin and to your family. Cant wait to see him holding his first eye! Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. In my canoeing days the island in front of the state launch on seventh was always a great quick stop for good smallies in the evening, the northeast side has a nice bay and we would paddle out and always got a few good ones. Ditto on Algiers too! justin
  18. Once walleye season opens im so damn tired... I havent wet a line in the river or my crappie spot all summer. Wish I had enough time to fish and sleep and work! I literally have a 5 min drive for crappie, but Otisco kicks my butt with the driving, and the early bite is too early! On the weekends Im at Otisco so I just don't get around to it. Soon I hope...its nice to just sit on bucket and watch a bobber once in a while. Jigging anything is best for me, but there is something about crappies and a bobber! We have 4 farm ponds with plenty of gills but that just doesn't do it for me like crappies....big crappies! Got up today at 3...on the water by 5 and back to work by noon...leave for Tupper at 1am....Ill bet I sleep tomorrow night!!!! Hunting season is even worse! No more crappie fishing Kevin I cant keep up with you... you're a beast...lol!!! Justin
  19. Its cooled right off prob 68-70 tops...my cable has a nick and it effects my temp only...if i watch it for a while i can get it, but i didnt this morn...i found 2.5 gps was best...i mighta been better for eyes a touch slower but i hate to slow up as faster will get browns, smb, and tigers. Everybody has there own style...mine is fast for eyes. I lapped all 11 boats trolling Sunday. Wish we would get a heatwave...slow sucks...i catch a few more in the fall but the hits are vicious going faster. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Id try trolling the weedline close to the bottom on inline boards so you can control how far out easily in case you are too close or to far out. Every big one i get is on walleye deep cranks in perch pattern. Speed should be 2.5 to 3.5 and turns help but pauses are bettter. Seems like speed change is key. The tdd11 is great for those speeds. If its spring or fall the reef runners are great at speeds up to 3 but you have to really tune them over 2.5. Sunny tough walleye days are best. I can usually tell if its a tiger day because ill see lots of bait on the surface with big swirls etc. they even come up on surface with there heads out. I seldom target them but its not that hard compared to big eyes as we have so many. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. Beauty kevin...you really pound em in some tough water...we gotta get together and compare notes! You ever wanna take a drive down my way after that grandchild is born ill take you out anytime! Id love get your take on my style and spread. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. Got a couple smb and two tigers, see musky forum, and 1 big eye so far. Just got brown too slam complete!! Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. Matt and his son dallas came up to help me pull the boat for our trip to Tupper, and we figured we better try the morning walleye bite. We ran half big baits half deep taildancers. So far big baits have been a bust. We caught a nice tiger and while writing this we got a big 7 pound eye and another smaller but decent tiger to go with 2 big smb. Tdd11's are on fire! Didnt measure either tiger as its not worth the stress on the fish. Second tiger we didnt put in the net or pick up. Both fish were safe releases. 24. Its great to see guys do it the hard way too for sure, and it sounds like you give yourself the best of both worlds. I haven't put the time in jigging Otisco but im sure it could be done. Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. I have a 1 lb downrigger ball, a st croix extra heavy with a fast action tip, and a okuma convector so i think im good. My rod holders hold up to musky strikes at 4mph and ive run magnum dipseys at cayuga many times so i think im a go. Ill be sure to take pics of my tangles and or success...lol! Thanks for the ideas and help. Im goin up to get the boat tomorrow morn and to grab a few eyes if you are interested Les? Justin Sent from my N9500 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
