  1. Both sides should be ashamed.... Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  2. Obviously supported by the majority? Cite your sources Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. Need snow in the southern tier before we can run dogs, and the recent warm up doesn't help calling either! My son and I closed up deer camp yesterday and we are impatiently waiting. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  4. If you really want to learn how to call predators don't start in the spots you want to hunt long term. As you will invariably educate every predator in the area at first. I'd skip the night hunting and go early in the morning on super cold crisp mornings after a hard blow. If you go at night go back in the morning and look for tracks...that's how you learn how they bust you and how to set up differently. Common rookie mistakes are over calling, calling too loud, and not patiently waiting a solid half hour after you call. A couple soft squeaks from the squeaker in a dogs chew toy combined with some patience on a cold morning will probably call more yotes than the top of the line electronic caller and all the commercial lights and decoys on the market. You set up and watch one way...if you think you can swivel around and move looking for a coyote you are gonna get busted often. Coyotes KEY in on any movement. If you are completely still they won't see you. Obviously the best spots are ones you can access undetected and get near a coyote. Fox hunting is way more action and more run and gun and calling coyotes is far more difficult. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  5. New moon and the early cold has em going hard. My son filled our last doe tag yesterday morning. After dragging it out he went back up to get back on stand and a coyote was coming down the drag trail hot. We have had 2 come in on down deer while we were still in the stand. After deer season we'll start getting after them with the dogs, caller, and bait pile.
  6. The new custom locking turrets are the way of the future. Range your target and set the turret which is custom machined to match your ballistic profile. I've been using tactical turrets for years but now you don't need to carry a "come up" card or chart to make a long range shot. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. Once you buy your first decent piece of glass it's game changing. I have a couple Bushnell 6500s on long range set ups, but the last several I've bought were the Leupold vx5s and they simply are amazing. Good binoculars really make glassing we easy as well. The old adage of spending the same on the scope as the gun is off imo... I'll spend double on the scope minimum...you have to be able to see and you want it bulletproof. Rings and bases are also another get what you pay for item. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. I have tons of knives and I use my bubba blades for everything! Any knife can be sharpened till you can shave with it. Most good knife manufacturers make several sizes and different flexes to suit your needs, but there is no better handle on the market for big hands and no handle that is easier to get a grip on when your hand is slippery. 9. The proper depth is probably the most important factor in finding eyes, but the frustrating part is how dramatically that depth can change day to day or not change. Even if you are out there day after day often times it seems like you are starting over every day. Just when you "figure" it out things change. As anglers we would love to be able to have a few less variables and some species are easier than others to fit into a consistent pattern. Walleye in the finger lakes are just plain difficult. There are many places easier to catch and pattern walleye...like anywhere except the finger lakes. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Dehydrators do have heat and the ones that don't are not for meat or fish. Just Google safe handling of meat and fish. If you cure the meat first that's different, but for raw meat above refrigeration and below 160 is the no go zone. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. Never tried it that cool. Maybe I am misunderstanding you but, I was taught that meat had to be brought to safe eating temp before drying. Been doing it that way for over 30 years. It isn't recommended to leave meat above refrigerator temp and below 165. This was according to the butcher who taught me...just looked it up and the USDA as well as the traeger book agree with the butcher I worked for...160 is absolute minimum temp at least until the meat is cooked. 12. The 1300 is huge and unless you cook for big groups the 850 will heat up faster and use far less pellets. I did 40 lbs of chicken for a party this summer and never flipped a single piece or opened the grill till it was done. I've served around 100 different people and everyone is interested in checking it out after tasting the food! Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. I have the traeger timberline 1300 and it's range is 165 to 500. I u see mine for all my grilling, smoking, and some baking all year round. It is easily programmable and wifi controlled. You can control it from work if you wanted. I often times load it before bed or right when I get up depending on what I'm cooking and when I get off the boat I have a beautiful piece of meat rested and ready to serve hungry customers. As far as the smoke flavor goes it doesnt produce an intense smoke flavor, but it's perfect for me. It's pricey though for sure! Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. Checking to see how much natural spawning is going on is relatively easy to do on your own, but figuring out how successful it is isnt so simple. In fact it's quite difficult to quantify. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. The DEC struggles to net and shock walleyes in many cases. Nets arent in long and if they miss the depth or location it's a wash. I keep saying this but those studies won't help you catch and are misleading as often or more than helpful. You aren't going to learn anything profound reading DEC reports at home. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. It is absurd that anyone can sell panfish on a recreational license. Selling any fish should require a more expensive commercial license that would be lost forever for over harvesting. The DEC needs to address this as well as protecting vulnerable spawning fish. IMO targeting spawning fish makes it tough for a fishery to be self sustainable. 17. Add a 36v terrova to a pontoon and you can't find a boat that tracks better and easier to troll with. My first generation just had pressure treated wood bolted across each back corner on a diagonal and riggers on those. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. I go through plugs but that's it! Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. I'm praying for 1 more year outta mine! Might buy a new one this winter, but definitely next winter. Seems like 4000 hours is pushing my luck but that's where I'll be after next year. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. I do guided trips from a pontoon. I tore mine down and built it myself. Im 3000 hours into my second motor and I wouldn't want any other kind of boat for small water.
  21. All too often we want a one size fits all and it's just not possible. There is no perfect bow, broadhead, fish finder, downrigger etc. Its trade offs...if we are smart about it we learn what works best for us individually and as long as we are happy with our success rate we stick with what works. For me I hate tracking... between the coyotes, the posted property, and weather its the least enjoyable part of bow hunting. The rage extreme has made tracking a non issue as I watch them fall at least 90% of the time. The trade off is the area you have to hit and the angles you can shoot are far less than a rugged conventional broadhead. ALWAYS go with what works for you and stay as far away as possible from what doesn't work for you. All broadheads are capable of doing the job and all are capable of not doing the job the x factor is the hunter. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. I've shot over 20 with the rage and have watched all but 3 die from the stand. 2 of the 3 I recovered and the third was all my fault. The rage's have always opened for me. I personally wouldn't switch, but if you aren't confident don't use them. I have known several other guys that struggled with the rage. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. I wear an ice fishing suit when its cold. Cheaper than cold weather fishing suits for bass fishing etc, and I'm very happy with it. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  24. Try pm ing him. Sent from my E6810 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  25. CNY tackle is my go-to for all my needs. Ken is great to deal with and his pricing is fair across the board.
