  1. Loosen those drags up...I personally have never used steel leader but the harder you pull the harder they fight...we consistently land 40 plus inch tigers on braid and flouro with no issue. Mind you my drags are smooth and maintained. Or use 50plus lb braid and 80+ leader if you wanna use big lures and tighter drags to get those big hooks buried.
  2. Day is shaping up! Haven't chased tigers hardly at all this year, but this is a nice change of pace from walleye
  3. Lost more than we caught last evening....
  4. Another this morning topwater...many of you may remember young Maddox this is his sixth musky with me..and a smaller one from yesterday.
  5. Nice work brother! I'm thinking you might need to make a visit soon....shaping up like 2 years ago and those trout are fun but ole marble eye is what's for dinner!
  6. Summer trolling has started to pick up a bit. We have been getting fish consistently, but no numbers until the last week or so. Last night I finally got the whole spread dialed and we limited instantly when they turned on.
  7. Thought I'd share a couple pics...both caught off shore recently on deep divers. Second fish was 46 and as heavy as I've ever seen! Both fish released safely to be caught again...with a little luck!
  8. I'd focus on 18-24 as a starting point based on how things usually set up here...bet it isn't a lot different there. I seldom end up below that for walleye n tigers till end of August and that isn't every year.
  9. My mag10 chute rigger went down for the second time this year so I call screwy Louie's to see if I could get an appointment to get it fixed AGAIN while I waited this time to save me an up and back. I then found it's about double to get it done while I wait. I decide to call Cannon to see what they say figuring I'd rather buy a new one than pay double when they just fixed it. Come to find out I can rebuild the entire rigger with overnight shipping for less than a screwy Louie's fix it while I wait. I'll rebuild them myself replacing everything, save a couple hours of driving, all while saving money. Cannon was super easy to deal with and hopefully I won't have any more issues with riggers till I get my new ones.
  10. I've had 4 like that this year with a 25.25 that was 9....love to see one like that over 30...
  11. I use inline boards and getting away from the boat makes a huge difference. I run jets off them for spoons and deep divers off them as well. Riggers produce fish too, but nothing beats the boards. Keep in mind no matter what you target your gear and net should handle 20+ lb tigers.
  12. Deep diving sticks and spoons are what I troll. Harnesses work fine on walleye if you find fish and can get them to the right depth. Deep divers allow you to cover twice the water and opens you up for big tigers and browns.
  13. I pulled 3 of my 5 eyes today between 1030am - 1230pm...just saying
  14. Otisco is setting up pretty decent on the troll bite. Last weekend several big tigers were caught as well as some very big walleye. Bite has been slow but it is turning on a bit. Campground has ac in the cabins, slips, and you can filet fish. Lake temps are well over 80 for swimming.
  15. Thought I'd share a pic of one of the fattest eyes I've seen...8.33 lbs at exactly 25 inches! Fish came on a hj14 casting.
  16. The helix 12 mega imaging unit is awesome for trolling. You can see individual fish on bait anywhere in your spread...at least to 50 fow...I don't have any experience with it in deeper water. The link to the tm works well also but for what I do I prefer to drive
  17. Tough walleye morning here but bass were on fire and my guys were happy with bags of smallmouth filets! Fish it's what's for dinner!
  18. The stradic ci4+ are sweet! I have 5 I use for walleye and have no complaint. The spiderwire will be fine for sure
  19. Seaguar isn't a cheap alternative...I've used em all and the seaguar is just a bit thinner and wears better... Just like their leader material. The nanofil is great too but wear is an issue. Powerpro is on sale often and that's what I'd use if I was trying to save money and buying retail. Once you get the hang of it wind knots can be eliminated..even night casting walleye its possible to avoid them entirely, but not with customers!
  20. Lake Champlain opens a week sooner as it borders Vermont water. Yes there were 25 bass tournaments on Champlain over the weekend but all legal. Gotta read the rules...
  21. Most guys use braid that's too light to start and the lighter you go the more wear is an issue and the more wind knots. 20 lb seaguar kanzen with seaguar premier flouro leader in 12lb handles most anything for walleye, trolling included and with the same diameter as 10lb fireline and your average 8lb flouro.
  22. Otisco has been very good for bass and tigers, but the walleye action has been very inconsistent to be nice about it! Ive only had 1 skunk but not much of a pattern. I can find em no prob... catching is the hard part. We have had a lot of temperature fluctuations and a fast in my experience that is tough fishing. Last week upper mid 70s till Thursday this weekend under 70.
  23. The topic is late spawn! My point is the walleye season is in place to protect the spawn... Obviously we catch spawning walleye in season so the season needs tweaking. As far as the limits and size restrictions go that depends on how the DEC chooses to manage the fishery and it seems we have little say in that.
